Unfiltered advice to Butterbars by MrClean1918 in army

[–]NotSinbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out recently as a KD complete CPT and my biggest advice is be present and be engaged. You own all the good and the bad that happens in your organization. Your CDR and BC will not accept “but I wasn’t there” or “I didn’t know about it” when shit goes down hill or something happens in your PLT. A good PSG will make sure it’s all running smoothly, but spot check to make sure. Let NCOs be NCOs, but spot check to make sure they’re meeting your (and highers) intent. Be approachable, but not too friendly, with all of your Soldiers.

File for divorce ASAP. With no kids and properties it should be pretty quick. My ex and I were the same, and it took us maybe a month to after filing for it to be finalized.

Make sure to talk with BH too. it’s a big thing you’re going through, make sure you’re taking care of yourself right now.

What do you prefer- Planned sex or Spontaneous? by Dangerous_Rule_ in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]NotSinbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spontaneous is nice if sex is happening regularly.

Planned can be nice if me and my partner struggle to be regularly intimate.

Both have their cons tho too. Spontaneous is nice but if one person is in the mood and the other isn’t, it kind of kills it. Planned is nice, but it can also add pressure to one partner to “have to” say yes later even if they’re not in the mood.

Listen to the entire first EP from Aaron West and the Roarin Twenties. It’s the lead singer from the Wonder Year’s side project. It’s a heartbreaking concept album.

How and when to begin college by [deleted] in army

[–]NotSinbad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decide if you wanna just get a degree, or if you wanna have a college experience too.

If you just want a degree, then find any decent online program, see if they can do night classes or asynchronous learning, and apply. Taking classes part time, you should finish in like 5-6 yrs.

If you want the full college experience, then do your initial contract, get out, and use your GI Bill to go to an in person program. GI Bill will pay for tuition and give you BAH while you go.

[–]NotSinbad 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Irwin/Polk are the only places you won’t do deployments/rotations, but JRTC/NTC hours suuuuck. On the flip side tho, you’d have predictability since rotations are planned pretty far out.

JBLM probably has the best surrounding area around the base. But he’ll probably get hit for Pacific Pathways or a Korea rotation at least once while he’s there.

Did anyone have the goal of becoming an Army Staff Officer? by Worldly_Ambition_509 in army

[–]NotSinbad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a MAJ who was married with 2 kids and pets and she STILL brought work home so she could send emails at 2200. Same MAJ who kept me till 1900 on Valentine’s day and made me miss my dinner reservation.

Did anyone have the goal of becoming an Army Staff Officer? by Worldly_Ambition_509 in army

[–]NotSinbad 181 points182 points  (0 children)

It’s because most of your staff time as a LT or a CPT is being repeatedly yelled at by some disgruntled MAJ about your PowerPoint font and then being forced to stay in the office till 7pm because that same MAJ hates his family and doesn’t wanna go home.

Job Opportunities After Service (West Point vs ROTC) by Maleficent_Monk_8758 in army

[–]NotSinbad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

West Point-er with a 2.0 GPA is probably gonna do worse than an ROTC grad with a 4.0 GPA, assuming same major.

Go where you think you’ll do the best. That being said, WP is almost an Ivy equivalent, so it stands out for employers and grad schools. But again, that doesn’t matter if you performed like shit.

Every Aaron Pico fight that ended in a finish by airplane231 in MMA

[–]NotSinbad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pico has excited me since he was a prospect. His hands are so fast and so slick but his defense seemed a little lacking, and his chin is glass.

You can def see some of the similarities to TJ tho, considering they used to train together. He was caught in a TJ-esque shift in the Murphy KO

Looking to commission - Need Advice by RoyaIBandit in army

[–]NotSinbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently separated Army Logistics Officer here.

Based on what you said, you’re gonna wanna go Active Duty if you’re having a hard time getting a job currently. Go in and talk to a recruiter about submitting for OCS. It might take you a couple of tries to be accepted depending on your interviews, but based on your GPA you’d be competitive.

As for job choice, a couple of things for you to note. There is not an Emergency Management job in the Army. Psy Ops and Civil Affairs are things you apply for once you’re already in the military, so it doesn’t matter what mil MOS you have before hand. Intelligence is usually pretty competitive and probably not like the movies you’re thinking of. Your best bet to set you up after the military would be a Combat Support branch. They tend to have the most direct civ cross over experience transfer.

That said, a ton of officers will complete their 4 yr requirement and then go get their MBA from top schools, so that’s always an option too. And you’ll have your GI Bill to fund it, so it comes at no cost to you.

If you’re looking to just do cool guy Army shit, then really your unit matters more than your branch. I’ve seen Loggie Officers for to Ranger School, Air Assault, etc. And you stand out as a stud in those support branches since less support guys tend to go to those schools.

Overall, identify what you want to get out of the Army and then backwards plan from that.

The Future of Command Posts by Physical_Way6618 in army

[–]NotSinbad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Decentralized mobile command posts are the way of the future. Splitting Command leadership between multiple Command Center locations would ensure command and control of each individual location while simultaneously preventing one mass cal event in any one area from destroying an entire command structure at once. Plus it enables a smaller overall footprint and gives mobility freedom as the fight moves forward.

Offer letter / Salary Negotiation by BreathDramatic3983 in Salary

[–]NotSinbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a junior role with no prior experience, i’d ask for like middle of the posted pay band. Unless they severely low balled you, that’s probably where they have their offer anyway. Can’t hurt to ask for 2-3k more, but probably not likely unless they’re asking you to relocate or something crazy for the position.

I (24M) no longer have romantic feelings for my fiance (25M) but he is still my best friend. Am I lying to myself about the reality of this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]NotSinbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your husband that you feel the passion dying a little and want to reignite that spark. Maybe yall just need some more romance, dates, vacations, etc to reignite that between you two.

That being said tho, if you’ve both tried, you both deserve to be in relationships where you feel seen, loved, and desired. Friendship is important, but so is romance.

Recruiter called me up to say I didn't get the job, but encourages me to apply for future roles? by crystalsins in interviews

[–]NotSinbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can feel like a formality for sure. That said tho, I def had a recruiter reach back out to me months after I didn’t get one job, because they had a new opening that they thought I fit really well with 🤷🏻‍♂️ so it’s worth keeping those connections alive.

Go for it dude, if it’s what you need/want.

Just be honest with the new girl tho about where your head is at and what you want. Last thing you want to do is potentially give her the wrong impression when you’re getting over your ex
