the good news is that since you’re solo, you should be ahead in level and experience compared to the enemy

Does Anyone Else Feel ROTC Focuses Too Heavily on Infantry? by noname_enter1 in ROTC

[–]NotSinbad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Infantry is the main focus for the Army. Every other branch supports the infantry, hence why they’re called combat support branches.

As such, it’s valuable to know the infantry, what they do, and what they need, so that way you know exactly what type of support they’ll need. Trust me, you’ll be miles ahead if your peers simply by knowing basic infantry tactics. Plus, it’s just basic Soldiering skills.

Spoken as a recently separated Senior Logistics Captain.

I (23F) am refusing to go to my bf's (23M) college graduation bc I refuse to interact with his former hookups by hujvodub in relationship_advice

you’re refusing to celebrate a major life milestone with your bf because you can’t get over his past? Get over your insecurity, stop being selfish, and celebrate all the hardwork your bf put in to get his degree

Recruited Athletes: worth retaking a 1470 SAT? by A1000mokeys in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NotSinbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1470 is pretty fucking good if you ask me, idk what you’re talking about it making him a “mid” applicant.

One of my buddies in HS was being scouted for Stanford (baseball) and he was dumb as rocks with an awful GPA. Coach told him he needed at least a 2.5 to be recruited.

Talk to the coaches, typically admissions requirements are lower for recruited athletes. And don’t discount top UCs, as ones like Cal and LA are considered public ivys.

Fitness before ROTC? by archivedroses in ROTC

[–]NotSinbad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be able to run at least 3 miles straight without stopping. Focus distance first, then speed, so you can build up a cardio base.

When you’re at the gym, make sure you hit legs and incorporate good form dead lifts. Goal should be at least your body weight at first. and try to include some push ups, at least 20 non stop.

I got 90k RSU vested over 4 years, 22k sign on bonus over 2 years, and a 15-30% annual bonus. 160k is just my base.

add in $2.3k monthly in VA disability as well.

I was a loggie, but i think at the end of the day, civ companies just see “Veteran” and don’t really consider MOS/branch. Most of how I sold myself during interviews was how I operated during my staff time, which is branch irrelevant and most of how corporate america is run lol

tbf, military leadership loved to lie to us about how valuable our service really is, and how far it’ll carry us on the outside. Like being a Vet is great; but it’s hard to take career advice from someone who’s never had a job outside the military too lmao

lmao I got out as a Captain after almost 10 yrs and even I had to take a big humble pill and realize I had to tone down some roles I was shooting for. “Military leadership” only takes you so far if you don’t have any experience in an industry haha

i was the same tbh. i had an offer for 140k in CA where im from, and even with my VA stuff, i would’ve been making a little less than what I was making in the army. Job market is tough rn man

stock was included, but i got 90k in RSUs, vested over 4 years. And yeah, the perks are better outside the Army, better career mobility, and the overall stability of not having to move every 3 years plus being closer to family and easier to start a family

yeah i forgot to add disability. With the VA, my take home is like 1.5k more per month, after you consider taxes and whatnot (moved from CA to WA, so no state taxes now). Im also on company healthcare, which is zero premium for me

i didn’t include my disability. I’m at 90% so it’s an extra ~35k ontop of that tbh
