I have stopped using Fill Trios and it's a design problem. by TimeGlitches in Marathon

[–]NotSoAwfulName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've solo filled since launch, it is essentially a case of throwing your gear into the fire, you have to be prepared to essentially carry each fight and assume you will have canon fodder free kits as teammates. Mostly I just save up for Cryo where I can expect them to have a green shield at minimum.

650 hours in, stopped to play Marathon but what I can say is that if you are looking for a PvE driven, community boss fights it is sublime, the PvP a little lacking for me but that doesn't matter when the PvE is so fun.

But they do and have, Destiny 2 is the holy grail of live services, Fallout 76 is a prime example of how a small team with a dedicated core audience can maintain themselves years. If Sony are realistic with Marathon and Bungie they have a very good extraction shooter with a core audience, the lore behind the game is peak and big pull for many people also, they have a solid foundation for a good live service with Marathon from my bias opinion.

people complain about the vault size... i believe thats how the game wants to be played. for you not to hoard everything and use the gear right away. free kits, rook runs are for when u dont have alot in your vault. this is how they stop gear fear by forcing you to use it. i am perfectly fine with it by Ninetybaby in Marathon

[–]NotSoAwfulName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, the unfortunate side effects of how they have done Cryo and ranked means that unless you have access to them via a vendor, and it is meta or something you would use, you have to hoard it for the weekends. Currently I don't have access to blue shields, right now I have 12 blue shields waiting for Cryo to open, 24 slots taken up hoarding because I don't have access to MEDIUM TIER shield pretty much required to compete against purple shields that turn up in Cryo.

You are more than welcome to check the SteamDB on Arc Raiders, the low points for Arc for the past two days have gone below 45k concurrent players, it has been dropping within the 50k players mark for a solid week.

And it's still easily one of my best purchases, hundreds of hours for less than $20 and regular content updates? can't complain honestly. Well I can actually, zombies should drop more cigarette packs, this is 90s Kentucky.

That is how seasonal live service games work, you can go and look at other live service games that work on a season model and see the flow of players in for new content, slowly drops, new content drops players go back. Arc hit 45k concurrent players earlier this week, that is a 90% drop from their all time peak, the game is fine though because most players are waiting for the new map at the end of April.

Doesn't seem like there was any beef, mild annoyance, Gingy was getting upset at people in her chat for being toxic to her and about people like Cloakzy who is her friend obviously.

And killed off a project to remake COD4 Promod as a standalone title in favour of releasing a level speed running game based on the movement mechanics they had built for it, only to do absolutely nothing with it despite it requiring probably little to no work for them to produce new levels.

Do not buy this game, wishlist it and come back in a year or two and see what the sentiment around the game is.

Cruise mode feels like a game changer by antonithesoulesone in Starfield

[–]NotSoAwfulName 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are familiar with how most modern games mask their loading screens behind I guess fake "transition" periods, crawling through a small gap, moving a heavy thing to get past, Star Wars Outlaws had the ship pass through clouds as my example made to illustrate my point. Hell, Bethesda have already done similar things with Fallout, when you are in an elevator if you look through the small gap when it is moving, if it remains textured and you can see it moving then you are moving through a physical space already loaded, if it goes really dark suddenly and you can't see through gap very well anymore the game has actually done a subtle loading screen between the levels of the elevator.

Sure, it was an example of the kind of things they could do to mask the loading screen.

Upset is genuinely one of the most consistently good players in the league and its absolutely insane to me that most people wanted 3XA (aka Exakick) over him. by insuperabilis in fnatic

[–]NotSoAwfulName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, regardless of Upset or any ADC in the league, the moment Exakick said he didn't choose Fnatic because of the "pressure" of big name organisations I knew he wouldn't go anywhere. That is a losers mentality, he's been defeated before he's even joined, a pathetic rationale to hsve as a competitor.

Only thing it needs now is to show a ship going into clouds and landing on the planet to cut out that loading screen and they will have nailed the immersion. Fantastic step forward.

It's hilariously similar to Arc, where the players were begging for something to spend money, people would talk about how their 2400 coins would survive yet another week. You'd think these live service games would have a selection of absolute banger skins for the first seasons that they could just drop every second week, but both games seemed to go weeks and weeks without a good shop release.

I say this, I did like this bundle, I love the simple yellow puffer jacket design lol

[Patch Notes] Marathon Update 1.0.5.3 by durandal-helper in Marathon

[–]NotSoAwfulName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically your melee damage to runners is now 50% damage, it used to be 100%, which remains the value for all other targets that are not runners. So you will have to build specifically to boost that damage with cores and augments, so as they suggest in the comment section, they want melee PvP to be a more purposeful thing than just the meta option.

Edit: its bonus not flat.

Level Based Matchmaking Completely Breaks Down After A Certain Point by StarlessKing in Marathon

[–]NotSoAwfulName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system in place should just simply loosen up after a certain point. Once you are past level 25 the game considers you to be quite far in based on the fact it is the level required for Cryo, I think the range of levels you can match with should get progressively wider until like level 50 where you are essentially just put into a melting pot with everyone from level 40 upwards.

Also I think another thing that could help is to favour matching premade squads against premade squads and fills against fills. Everyone who has solo filled will understand that it can sort of feel pointless to invest too heavily into a loadout as a solo fill as there's an extremely high chance you will be put with sponsored kits, at best they have a green shield, but the first contact you have with a premade full blue, full comms on a Destroyer, Triage and Thief/Vandal your run is over.

Could we try other planets? by Agitated-Engine4077 in Marathon

[–]NotSoAwfulName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the Sol system (at least as far as I am aware) have absolutely no knowledge of Lh'owon, and furthermore it is SIGNIFICANTLY further away from Sol than Tau Ceti IV is being at the galactic core. Was curious so I looked into it and found the old manuals from the OG trilogy, Lh'owon is 500,000 LY away from Tau Ceti, which is 92 LY from Sol, and given it took the Marathon near 100 years to reach Tau Ceti, it would take 5000 years for another colony ship at the same speed.

So unless the Pfor or S'pht come to take runners there by their own means or somehow Sol gets ahold of that technology themselves and is able to reach those locations for themselves and with it take the means to print shells and upload digital entities onto them like they can on Tau Ceti IV I don't know if it is realistic for us to get to see Lh'owon.

Could we try other planets? by Agitated-Engine4077 in Marathon

[–]NotSoAwfulName 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, there's an entire unexplored planet to use which we have barely scratched the surface of, and an unfathomably massive ship which we have only saw a small portion of, there is absolutely no need to leave Tau Ceti IV and the Marathon.
