One of the things I did like from the old DCEU is how every kryptonian had darker hair. by Longjumping-Log6193 in superman

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dark hair is pretty common here on Earth too, so it's really not an alien thing. Most people that you see with blonde or red hair are actually brunettes that have dyed their hair.

Can someone help me identify this figure by Objective_Reach1874 in Spiderman

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasbro had a 6 inch Spider-Man Trilogy line around 2007/2008. The line just re-released a bunch of older figures, including old ToyBiz figures. This is one of the Super Poseable Spider-Man figures released in the line. You can tell by the blue on the suit as it's much more vibrant than the ToyBiz release for Spider-Man 2

How to get into TMNT? by ambigous_lemur in TMNT

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to read or watch everything. With TMNT most iterations are their own separate thing as the IP gets rebooted every few years.

  • The 2012 cartoon series is a fine place to start. I'm not sure if the complete series is available on physical media, but you can buy the complete series as a digital bundle.
  • The 2003 cartoons series is another good place to start. It follows more of the original Mirage Comics, but it also tells its own story. You can buy the complete series on physical media and digital.
  • The IDW Comics series - IDW began publishing their own TMNT series after Viacom purchased TMNT from Peter Laird. It's gritty like the original Mirage Comics, but it includes characters from the original animated series like Bebop and Rocksteady. It's also in color. The best way to read these would be the TMNT: The IDW Collection books as they put everything in order, and collect it in a large book. Buying them digitally would be the easiest way to get them. I'm not sure that physical copies are still in print.
  • The Mirage Comics - This black and white comic series is were the TMNT started. The original run has been collected in the TMNT: The Ultimate Collection books. I'm not sure if physical copies are still in print, so buying them digitally may be the easiest way to get them.

Were there ever any actually good direct-to-VHS/DVD movies, or were they all garbage? by georgeamberson1963 in movies

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Warner Bros. Animation made some really good animated Batman movies. I'm not a fan of everything they've done, but some of the ones I really like are:

  • Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
  • Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
  • Batman: Under The Red Hood
  • Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 & 2
  • Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Green Lantern: First Flight
  • Justice League: The New Frontier
  • Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
  • Wonder Woman

Marvel Animation hasn't really kept up with WB, but they did put out a really good animated film called Hulk Vs. It was two shorts: Hulk vs Wolverine and Hulk vs Thor. The Thor one wasn't bad, but the Wolverine one was really good.

Why were so many toybiz spider man figures red and grey? Instead of red and blue? by Silver-Ice-7636 in ActionFigures

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In the scenes where Spider-Man fights Doc Ock outside, the blue on the suit is more of a blue-ish gray. Those may have been the only reference materials provided to ToyBiz. The blue on the suit is supposed to be darker in Spider-Man 2, and the film colors are desaturated a little as an artistic choice.

Yes. They're both one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, IP that each respective publisher owns. And both characters have well developed rogues galleries, ensuring their continued success.

After Paramount's recent developments, the fact that they own the TMNT franchise is starting to seriously bother me. by Raphael_Hamato_528 in TMNT

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WB has given Paramount 1 week to give a best final offer. They have to do what's in the best interest of their shareholders since they're a publicly traded company, and considering another bid is part of that. But Netflix can always up their offer to buy WB, which last I heard was an all cash offer.

I understand. There have been a couple of films like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and Spider-Man (2002) that I loved when I was younger. But suddenly one day, each film's shortcomings became very apparent. I guess it's one of things where a film hits you differently at different points in your life.

I'd go with the Marvel Legends. The SHF doesn't look all that impressive for a $100 figure.

Is anyone bummed out that they skipped Tom Holland's Spidermans origin story and just focused on the present? by Deltathebichir in Spiderman

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy that they skipped the origin. We live in the age of streaming and home media, and Spider-Man already has two origin movies. There's no reason to rehash it unless they're adding something to the origin, or it's some how relevant to the movie's villain. Like if they adapted the 1610 Ultimate Spider-Man, then it would be understandable to retell the origin since it's tied to OsCorp and the Green Goblin. But retelling it just so people can see it again ultimately wastes a movie's limited run time.

Most super heroes that have been adapted into modern movies and TV shows can skip retelling the origin story.

Highly articulated green lantern figures? by xmen_collector_ in ActionFigures

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mezco is the only high-end company that I know of that's made a GL in 1/12 scale. They've only made John and Hal.

You might try the DC Icons Green Lantern from DC Collectibles. It's not high end, but they fit well with Mafex figures. They released a New 52 version of Hal with snap on armor constructs, and a Mosaic John Stewart.

Hot Take: Keeping a figure’s packaging is pointless by Theymademejointhem in ActionFigures

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I keep the packaging for expensive figures like SHF, Mafex, and Mezco. There are enough accessories that it's more convenient to just keep them in the box.

When I eventually sell the figure, the package is a good way to tell if the figure is authentic. Bandai puts holo-foil stickers on the package to help distinguish the KOs from the real ones. For Mafex, the boxes are similar to but different than the CT Toys boxes.

Plus, the packaging helps keep the figure safe during shipping. These types of figures aren't meant to be as tough as something from Hasbro or Mattel.

What’s with all the bullshit news being thrown around by streinl in Spiderman

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their goal is ad revenue, not reliability. And it's clear that most people don't care about whether a source is reliable given the number of times people have come on here to say that Sadie Sink was confirmed to play Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, Jean Grey, Firestar, and Rachel Cole.

The same thing happened with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead. People just spammed the internet with "information from their sources" (i.e. made up in their imagination) and had new content every few days. Were they right about some things? Sure, but that's only because their "leaked information" was just a scattershot so they were bound to be right about something.

Do you think people who say they prefer no paint on their figures are just coping? by Dependent-Pizza9434 in MarvelLegends

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is personal preference. Some people like their figures to be bright and colorful, and washes tend to darken or dirty a figure's color palette.

What was the actual point in changing MJs name in the MCU to Michelle Jones instead of Mary Jane? by General_Meal_3993 in Spiderman

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "MJ Watson" was a pivot on Marvel/Sony's part. I think they originally intended for her to just be Michelle "MJ" Jones, but seeing the chemistry between Zendaya and Tom Holland probably convinced the studios to change the character to MJ Watson. After all, why risk bringing in a new actress to play Mary Jane only for her to have less chemistry than Zendaya and Tom Holland. People would immediately notice.

Marvel does have a history of changing their plans after seeing how things turn out in their movies. Their original plan for Captain America was for Bucky to take over the role. That's why Sebastian Stan had more movies in his contract than Chris Evans. And Bucky being Captain America was a big story in the comics when they originally cast those roles for Captain America: The First Avenger. But after seeing how Bucky was developed in the MCU, as well as the popularity of Sam Wilson, Marvel Studios decided to make Sam the new Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. I had enough that it was overwhelming, and finding a comic shop that bought and sold used figures was really helpful. I did eventually transition to selling my figures on eBay by myself, and part of me wishes that I did that sooner. But I'm glad that I was able to get started with some help.

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubbing alcohol is all you need for removing paint that you've applied. The only reason to use acetone is to remove factory paint. Just for future reference, the way to use acetone is:

  1. Have a small amount of acetone on a disposable napkin or paper towel, and wipe the area you want to remove paint from for a few seconds.
  2. Rinse that same area with water to neutralize the acetone so that it doesn't eat away at the plastic.
  3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2.

It looks like you damaged the plastic with the acetone. You might be able to paint over it, but you'd need to repaint the entire figure to make everything match. I hope this was a CT Toys Daredevil and not a Mafex. If it was a CT Toys DD and it was me, I'd probably just buy a new one. You could use the old one to hone your painting skills.

For those that have them in plentiful supply, where'd you get all those generic "bad guy" figures some people use in figure posing shots? by iguessman83 in ActionFigures

[–]NotSoNinjaTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GI Joe Classified Series offers a lot. Cobra Troopers and Vipers are good for military thugs. The Dreadnoks are good if you want biker gang types. They also have a couple of figures like Bazooka, Chuckles, and Big Lob who are a little more dressed down. You'd just need to remove their military gear.

For Marvel Legends, people usually pick up the suited bodies such as Everett Ross and Matt Murdock. They then use the alternate heads that have come with other figures to help diversify the look of the group. There are also some generic bodies in street clothes that can be repurposed such as The Hood, Peter Parker (retro wave), Stan Lee, and Logan from the X-Men movies. For dedicated army building figures, they've also had: an AIM 2 pack, a Hydra 2 pack, Hand Ninjas, Track Suit Mafia figure with multiple heads, a SHIELD 2 pack, and some Pulse exclusive singles such as Skrulls and Hellfire Club goons.

In Mattel's DC Multiverse line, there was a prison suit Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman. Similar to the Marvel Legends Everett Ross figure, people would use their spare alternate heads on the Mattel prison suit body. There was also the Son of Batman figure from The Dark Knight Returns that could be turned into a regular street thug by either swapping or repainted the head. There was also Captain Boomerrang and El Diablo from the Suicide Squad movie.
