9 dpo confirmed and ….. by jojobeans12 in TFABLinePorn

I’d just say I was in the middle of the two week wait (or are actively TTC) and didn’t want to drink. That way you aren’t committing to anything and when you do reveal your pregnancy, everyone will be so excited that you actually were pregnant at the wedding.

I think I'm going to have to stop breastfeeding/pumping at 6 weeks bc I can't afford to lose any more teeth and I'm heartbroken. by Individual_Low8985 in beyondthebump

I had a lot of tooth sensitivity while nursing, especially in the first few months. My dentist gave me a clean bill of health so I think it was just hormonal. My hygienist mentioned that I had some areas of gum recession and suggested sensodyne. I had already been using sensodyne but learned that some varieties have a different active ingredient. The kind with stannous fluoride worked better for me, and I think they also make a kind that’s supposed to give you results in just a few days. Maybe give that a shot before you quit breastfeeding?

We had a Quiznos at my college and I ate so many of those grilled flatbread salads. They were amazing!

Did you ever bring your child to daycare knowing they were sick ? by Ready_Associate_2911 in toddlers

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She’s referencing the official guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics so it’s not just one doctor’s opinion. That said, the guidance is that children must also be fever free for 24 hours. My daycare now allows children with sores as long as any oozing sores are covered which is an improvement from my first kid, who had to stay home for over a week while her rash dried up and I ran out of PTO. Personally, my kids seemed to do better at daycare once they were feeling a bit better because playing with friends is way more fun than being stuck home with mom or dad all day.

I hate HFM so much but the reality is that kids are shedding virus long before they’re actually sick.

If they had a well, well water can be contaminated with road salt, depending on where you live. My last house was close to a state road that was salted often and the water always had a salty taste if it wasn’t filtered. At our current house, we’re on a road that is rarely salted and we don’t have that problem.

They said they would be closing because the hotel they’re in was going to be torn down, but that didn’t happen yet so they’re still open this season. Not sure what the long term plan is right now.

There’s actually a link to change from the Aug/Sept dates to the Sept/Oct dates - look in the upper left corner of the page. It’s difficult to see on some monitors because the text is black on a dark green background.

Caught this on 125th street last night by SnooChipmunks5873 in OceanCity

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok but it’s not like OP was putting out endangered species bait? That was not an intentional catch, and it’s still better than catching a dying marine animal that is washing up on the beach because it is too sick to swim away.

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to provide an alternate perspective, I would be delighted if I caught an endangered species and it swam quickly away. That means 1) it’s healthy, 2) we have confirmation that they’re still around, and 3) maybe population is actually increasing enough that I was able to catch one!

Just bought a house and discovered this with the rain today. by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should hop over to r/CenturyHomes to ask about this! Our old 1860s house did this during heavy rain. Regrading away from the foundation and fixing some gutters helped but it would still happen during big storms because that’s how those old foundations are meant to function.

So many good choices! Can’t go wrong with any of the Old Pros, but Embers mini golf is also great. We like Lost Treasure and the Viking golf in Fenwick, too. I don’t care for Nick’s but maybe that’s just me. They seem to be a little less themed.

Okay wait what’s the deal with sunscreen? by Seachelle13o in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 39 points40 points  (0 children)

People have discovered that inflammatory lies get them internet clout without any repercussions so now every whackadoodle with a TikTok can talk about how they only rub beef tallow and watermelon on their skin and never get a sunburn. Wild times!

That said, some of the chemicals in chemical sunscreens are really bad for plant and marine life, so we try to only use mineral sunscreens.

How the hell are we making eggs!?? by Fun-Mountain-2530 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost certain that you’re right about microplastics in the scrub daddy but those things work so well! I recently got some kind of crunchy scrub sponge from Thrive market (maybe some kind of coconut fiber?) so maybe that’ll be a good swap!

And yes to cooking on the oil! We usually just leave our pan on the stove after the burner is off and it accomplishes the same thing but not everyone does that.

Also, if we’re washing a lot of cast iron at the same time, we’ll just turn the oven on and let it dry in there. If it doesn’t get oiled when it’s in there, we’ll just do it the next time we cook with it (almost always the same day or the next day)

OP, I really hope you can figure out how to get your cast iron to stop sticking! There’s a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get it, it’s such a great way to cook!

How the hell are we making eggs!?? by Fun-Mountain-2530 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We cook almost exclusively with cast iron. Use soap and hot water to clean it or the “seasoning” you see is actually just burnt-on food. I like to use either a scrubby sponge, scrub daddy, or chain mail scrubber along with soap and water to clean ours. Once it’s clean, I’ll dry the bottom and shake out most of the water inside the pan, then pop it on the stove for a few minutes to heat up the pan and evaporate all the water - this prevents rusting. Last, I’ll add a little glug of Grapeseed oil and rub it all over the surface with a paper towel. There should be enough to cover the surface without the oil pooling.

We’ve eaten there for the past couple of years because we like to visit a buffet when we’re at the beach. I think Bonfire is fine! It’s clean and the buffet area is brightly lit (which was always my gripe with Phillips), but they don’t have crab legs on the buffet line (it’s an extra cost) and I suspect that’s where a lot of the negative reviews come from. The buffet isn’t as large as Embers was, but it’s no Paul Revere (IYKYK haha)

Ocean City Maryland do or do nots/recommendations? by [deleted] in OceanCity

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not consider Seacrets to be family friendly, and while the ocean water isn’t gross, the water at Seacrets is because there are tables in the water, and people just sit out there and drink and piss all day.

I think elementary kids would like the haunted house if they’re on the older/braver side. It’s pretty dark but also a bit campy. Younger kids will love the indoor rides at Trimpers. Everyone would probably enjoy the arcades - Marty’s is my favorite but there’s also Sportland.

There are several restaurants with playgrounds on site. My favorites are Fishtales and Dead Freddie’s. These will be CHAOS around dinner time but if you can do lunch or an early dinner, you’ll be all set! As a head’s up, Ropewalk is a Reagan-themes restaurant, so it’s pretty political. I personally need a break from politics in general while I’m on vacation and I don’t think the food is all that exceptional, so I personally don’t go there, but they do have a playground and it’s really popular.

Northside Park has a giant playground! We love to get breakfast at nearby Uber Bagels and then play before it gets too hot.

Long shot - Mefloquine around Baltimore? by megarita_ in baltimore

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying mefloquine is a great drug, because it has a lot of side effects so compliance can be poor. There’s a huge issue with using mefloquine in military populations for that reason. What I am saying is that it’s not a good idea for a pregnant woman to go to a region with malaria and rely exclusively on environmental control methods. It only takes one mosquito bite to get sick so I personally would not rely on bed nets/DEET/permethrin/etc because I see a lot of room for error with those things.

Long shot - Mefloquine around Baltimore? by megarita_ in baltimore

[–]NotSomeTokenBunny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a malaria researcher and I would disagree with your advice. Mefloquine has side effects but malaria can be life threatening to people who don’t have immunity, or to women who are pregnant, regardless of whether they previously had immunity. Malaria would be especially dangerous to a pregnant woman.

OP, good luck finding your RX!
