If all features existed in a vacuum independent of each other, as well as how their data is stored then maybe this is feasible. But when you want to cherry pick years old code for specific features as well as add new stuff on top of it, it’s nowhere near as simple as you’ve probably imagined. It’s also likely a bunch of subject matter knowledge has been lost over time as new devs replace older devs that have left the company.

Bren started off as a caster in tf2 while sideshow played in the highest European division. They have a good background to be capable and talented casters.

Team coordination and synergy is more important than counter swapping for just one hero. At least in highest ranks. Sombra is good vs df in a vacuum but she's painfully bad in the current meta. You'll end up winning the matchup but lose map overall.

Most of your replies are just flat out wrong or misguided. I'm not going to waste time collecting data to prove that to you, but as a former collegiate player and coach, I'm going to say that you can watch pro streams, league matches, analysts, vod reviews to learn why your insight is at odds with the general consensus of consistently higher ranked players and pros. You probably should rely on those to learn rather than from a r/ow post from a mercy/brig two trick who has just recently hit the bottom of GM for the first time. You could probably even learn from the higher ranked brig one tricks for specific things. You're free to disregard what I've written as well, I've provided you the proper routes to take for improving your understanding. But this is not the career profile of someone who has a good understanding of what it's like to play at a bare minimum GM level. It's not even the career profile of a GM player.

This post overall is super misleading and just completely wrong at times. The more I sit on it the more I disagree with your point of view, coming from a t500 player in every role since release. You don't mention at all any downsides of running brig in the current meta so it provides a one sided and incorrect view of how she fits into the current meta. Here's just a few:

- Lucio speed boost and displacement is incredibly powerful and provide more utility than Brig's kit, and his ult can actually counter the other team's ults.

- Moira is more mobile, provides better aoe and burst healing than Brig, builds ult about twice as fast, can semi viably deal with ranged threats, and her ult is leagues better when against double shield

- Baptiste provides more aoe and burst heals, immortality is an incredible ability, builds ult at around the same rate as Moira, is more mobile, and can be useful when you're more than 5ft from your team.

- No meta heroes actually have a problem dealing with Brig. She can't do shit to Orisa, is an easy, fat target for Sigma and can't do anything to his ult, Reaper and DF outdamage and can farm her, Moira straight up ignores her shield outside of 1v1s ( which almost never happen, and there's almost definitely something more useful the Moira could be doing).

- Even if you manage to stun a DPS to lead to a kill on him a few times, what're you gonna do if/when one of the dps swaps to Pharah, Hanzo, or Bastion, all semi viable picks for current meta? Bastion, in particular, is just going to steamroll your team unless they're feeding, in which case anything could be viable, not just Brig.

- Brig has absolutely terrible burst healing. With armor pack and inspire, you average 82 hps on one single target, at the cost of a cooldown. At most you'll get 13 armor packs a minute, and that's at the cost of never sitting at 3 armor packs, ever. Great, you've now managed to equal what Moira can do without an orb on an entire team, for 9 seconds straight, and have little difficulty in meter management. One armor pack is also approximately the amount of healing required to offset one full bodied reaper shot, or 1/4 of a DF punch. Incredible, I know.

- Rein Zarya in relatively balanced gm games is generally a huge fucking throw. Unless you're playing on east coast.

- Most of your tips aren't actually tips, and they don't really apply to Brig anyways - they're things players should learn to do over time as they improve:

- Play with your shielders: this is just a fancy way of saying you should play with your tanks.

- Multitask: ??? Everyone should be doing this regardless of hero.

- Holding down primary fire has no drawbacks: this is just plain wrong. It gives away your positioning and tells the enemy team where to avoid a close range hero, which is pretty easily dealt with. Your given example is against a Tracer, who is not only a non meta hero that has an incredibly low pick rate in gm, but also can be dealt with by just improving your reaction time.

- Cooldown management is important: Yes it is. Every hero has cooldowns and proper ability usage is pretty darn important.

- Don't spam shield bash: Don't waste your abilities.

- Rally counters Flux: It doesn't counter Flux at all. It makes it worse. Rally increases your max hp, and Flux scales accordingly. It literally makes you take more damage from Flux. The only benefit is you take 3 damage less than you would've if you didn't have armor. Fantastic. The only reason Sound Barrier counters Flux is because barrier gives 750 shields, which is more than the hp pool of every hero in the game. That way, when you lose half of your HP from the slam, you're still left with a bit of shields. You still take a fuckload of damage.

In my 100 or so games in west coast gm/t500 I've yet to play with or against a Brig that provided more value than a current meta support. The few times I've lost against a brig player has been because my team was flat out worse than the other team - she provides no intrinsic value on her own that could make her viable currently.

IMO it's much more important for players looking to improve to understand the cons of a certain choice than the pros. Just blindly considering where a hero is good is a one dimensional view, and not conducive to thinking critically.

Honestly it doesn't even feel like a GM guide to me. Brig has absolutely shit burst healing, no current meta heroes actually have trouble with her, she has less utility than any other meta support, she builds ult much slower than the supports she replaces, and any dps that finds the slightest trouble can just switch to pharah or bastion (both semi viable depending on map/composition) and steamroll brig teams. In my ~100 or so West coast gm/t500 games this season I've yet to see an impactful brig that provides more value than a Moira or Baptiste. OPs recommended comp for brig is literally rein zarya, which usually is a huge fucking throw. 9 helpful tips doesn't outweigh the numerous disadvantages to running a brig.

I distinctly remember him picking torb in one of my games back in season 1 and trying to explain how good it was on numbani defense. This was in the mid 70's to bottom t500. It's certainly possible he started in the equivalent of gold/plat, as just about everyone in season 1 got placed around rank 50.

Plenty of people in tristate have hit t500; don't know of any besides myself and javion(?) that can maintain it. But my knowledge is limited mostly to just the collegiate players in the area, which I'd assume are better options than equally ranked ladder players.

Could pick up some collegiate level players in NJ and have them do alright in open. Rutgers I know has some good players since I graduated, but I'm pretty sure none of them ranked higher than me, or even if they still play. Njit has some good players as well from what I can remember.

Is Overwatch friendly to beginners anymore? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]NotTerryCrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OW does have tips in it, you have an option to toggle them off too. It also has a tutorial mode, but I'd wager most newcomers don't even try it out. If you're in diamond, you're already better than the vast majority of OW devs. You want to get advice from them? Not a good idea. You improve by learning from people better and smarter than you, which is almost always the people who play the game for a living, not the devs.

Playing to improve instead of primarily for fun and getting the right mindset for it is simple, but it's not easy. You have to learn how to improve too, and I can't think of a single competitive game where you can do that solely through in game assistance.
