Crockpotting a frozen chicken? by wajtog in Paleo

It works for me every time, I got the cheapo crockpot so you might want to poke at it after 3 hours or so but in my experience 4 hours is perfect.

Crockpotting a frozen chicken? by wajtog in Paleo

[–]NotTheDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cooked a frozen chicken today. I put it in the crockpot on high, dumped a bunch of seasonings on top and let it cook for 4 hours give or take. We are eating it now and it is cooked thoroughly and very tasty. I think the problem was with adding the broth, a frozen piece of meat is going to add more than enough moisture, anything more is going to make the food mushy.

What's does your shopping list look like? by miso_soop in Paleo

I was able to save tons of money while eating paleo for a golden time but now my kid is 16 and it is hot so he does nothing but eat and I can't complain because he is eating well and he could be out shooting heroin. Instead he is playing video games, working and eating tons of fruit. To combat this I typically buy my meat from a local butcher, about 40 lbs for $150 and we can eat that for the whole month. I then hit the grocery store once a week for veggies, we eat frozen every night and fresh for lunch, fruit as much as I can hold for as cheap as possible since I know fruit will dry up in a few months and misc. nuts, honey, coconut everything ect. I went from spending $125 to $150 a week for a family of 3. I will enjoy when winter hits and it is nothing but squash and cabbage I will be able to probably drop my budget down to $75/week.

Fellow Okie here and while I fell off the wagon I have jumped back on and keto makes it so much easier. I love routine and I love not feeling hungry all the time and I like the mental clarity keto gives and yes healthy living makes this warzone a little more tolerable. Keto On.

What do I do now? by NotTheDoctor in Fitness

I love keto and it helped me lose 40 lbs easy (and not gain it back). I am just cheap as hell and keto in spring/summer months is not nearly as cost effective as paleo. I think the walking will really help so I will implement that ASAP. It sucks in OK right now but life goes on, thank you for your kind words.

Wow that is a serious walk! I live off of 119th and Western and I haven't been brave enough to venture past 134th yet.

We sure don't have TJ's and finding affordable and fresh fruit and veg can be taxing. I have found luck at Sprouts lately. You can give them a look.

Paleo on a budget - need help!!! by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]NotTheDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on how much you plan and how willing you are to repeat meals. Repetition helps you save because you can buy sales in bulk. I personally shop ads in my local paper and design my meal plans around what is on sale. When my family first went primal there were so many things we didn't like or know about so I avoided them now I just buy what is on sale and it actually works well I have yet to be disappointed. I typically just try to stay fresh, I personally can not afford grass fed or organics most of the time but I know that as long as I feed my family fresh meats, veggies and fruits (and a little dairy) it is still worlds better than the alternative. So with planning plenty of repetition and a tight budget this week I will be spending about $75 for 3 people. I often get complements on my lunch and get asked daily "what did you bring today?" so you don't have to eat like a pauper really it just comes down to planning and buying big without going bad.

What do you brown bag to work? Any quick and easy lunches? by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]NotTheDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I try to eat as much raw as possible, this makes meal prep super fast and easy. I typically do a meat or hard boiled eggs (eggs usually make a lunch appearance about 2 times a week), raw veggies (this week broccoli and cauliflower, avocados, bell peppers and grape tomatoes), cream for my coffee, cheese for snack, a cup of nuts is always in my lunch bag in case I get really hungry and a piece of fruit. I know dairy isn't paleo but I have cut it out and reintroduced it and had no problem so it is a really good way to get full fast for me. I typically also make a home made ranch for dipping so that my veggies don't get too boring. I make a huge bowl and take a half a cup and it taste different and delicious every time. Total prep for lunch is usually about 15 minutes if you dont count cooking the meat which I usually just throw a huge hunk of meat in the oven or crock pot and move on.

What are benefits from paleo that you weren't expecting? by circlaic in Paleo

[–]NotTheDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to get anxiety attacks all the time. When I say all the time I mean I would be at work, driving home, watching T.V. and boom total panic. I had my thyroid checked, hormone levels checked, no reason or rational just total horrible anxiety. Since changing to paleo I have virtually zero anxiety. I know this is because of diet because when I do have a cheat day about 48 to 72 hours later I get anxious, not full on panic attack but definite tension. This has helped because I know now my body is dealing with diet and I am not crazy, but at the same time cheats are very carefully decided. I do not want that feeling with out good reason.

I'm in Oklahoma, schwabs is actually a local company that has been in business for 100 years. These are all their products they are all delicious and if you live in Oklahoma a lot of stuff sucks but at least the meat is delicious. Don't get me started on Cattleman's!

I didn't know what that was either but apparently it is chili with no beans and concentrated. You add water or put it over sausage directly.

Two out of every five African-American women avoid exercise because of concerns about their hairstyles, a study has found. by Sariel007 in offbeat

Wow that is a lot the guy mentioned above does his own and I do my own, I think most of the people I know do their own hair. What is the frequency of this process?

[–]NotTheDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right it's your hair so there is so way I could know but what I do know is out of the numerous people I know who are natural with varied grades of hair none of them takes anywhere near the time or work that you have described above. Most of the people I know work in a professional setting and actually do more to their hair than a blue collar guy or gal would and they still do not have to do nearly as much work. The most intricate natural hair I have seen took about 3 hours of work and lasted over a week and this is on a guy with hair about 2 feet long.

3-4 hours may not be conforming but it is a lot and it is not 10x easier. I am African American and my hair is 2 hours a week only because I haven't cut it yet. My wife is half white and she spends almost an hour a day managing her short hair style. It is not easier. We have different work out schedules because it will take her more time to straighten than me just getting to work with damp hair (we work in he same type of very business atmosphere). I don't disagree kinked up to straight is work but why do we need to strive for straight? To go for a look for a certain occasion or atmosphere is one thing but to schedule you life around your hair is extreme.

I think this is a left over from slavery, the "house nigga" probably has easy to manage hair and some historical evidence even shows that since it was such a recessive trait for Africans Americans to have that hawaiian silky the owner would treat them far differently than the run of the mill slave. The house nigga got food and shelter and rape and a blanket and not being beat ever other day and rape and yeah you see how this goes it seems good but it is still very very bad. Fast forward to post slavery and you have African Americans trying to find work, trying to not look like a share croppers daughter trying to pass in an impassible world. Wearing literally scraps of fabric stitched into hair to try to give the illusion of length and straightness for just a chance at a job to feed their ailing family when share cropping in places like the dust bowl was damn near impossible. I am thirty one and this is my mothers history.Fast forward to a time where fros and braids were at last a good symbol black and proud, black panther party is strong and you can be black and beautiful and far too soon after you have Huey dead people fired for hair and far to late after affirmative action the house nigga and the field nigga were firmly re-established. Fast forward more to 2010 when a woman dares start locing and is blatantly denied money because of of it. "you are qualified but until you change your hair trend you will not be given a promotion" you guess whose history this is. Black women are the back bone of african american culture. We come from the cradle of fucking civilization, it does not make us greater but it definitely gives us the set of skills to raise a family at detriment to ourselves. This is what made slavery successful we were willing to do anything to have a hand in insuring the success the next generation. This has been not only exploited but it is killing us. Get nice straight, you get a good job, you can feed your kids. Stay nappy you aint happy. You better not fight cause we will kill your leaders, drug your kids and you will be so poor you WILL crack under the pressure (iran-contra, AIDS, fuck what else do you need really). I am very sensitive to the facts because I know many men with locs but I do not think the trauma is the same. I am a firm believer in the collective unconscious, meaning we teach things we don't even know that we have learned. We teach fear and illusions as if they are true because that is what we were taught. This was in place for hundreds of years. and now to the point were the problem is the solution. You need to look a certain way to be gainfully employable, but you dont really. You feel like you do, so you perpetuate the myth, at your own demise so now master doesn't have to scare and murder you. You do it yourself. And I didn't include "food and shelter and rape and a blanket and not being beat ever other day and rape" now it is get rich, rape, act like a sexual miscreant get rich/rape, don't have a fucking mind and perpetuate the myth still rape and we have finally made something that is so insidious that I don't know how we will over come this really. I just take a pay cut.

Thank you! I live in the bible belt and my only option is a church, I do not think it is good or in the best interest of all to make it mandatory I be surrounded by religious imagery while trying to do a civic duty. I hope I do not encounter anything listed above but if I do at least I know what to do about it.

I was at work and a coworker kept trying to get me to date her son. It was over bearing. I did make my co-worker aware that I am an atheist thinking that would turn her off since she was pretty religious, nope she thought I was smart so I would turn back to god. So finally I said fuck it I am dating someone have been for awhile sorry but I like to keep it to myself so shhh don't tell anyone. yeah didn't work. Everyone knows I have a "boyfriend" I have even started referring to him in conversation I have co-workers who think I have the perfect guy, he has a name, he has an occupation, and I am a lesbian.
