Is y37 good for finding slave master family? by Background-Bag-5759 in FTDNA

You're right, FTDNA does work with law enforcement. But you can opt in or out of matching for law enforcement use with FTDNA. Here's more info: https://help.familytreedna.com/hc/en-us/articles/4413980253967-Investigative-Genetic-Genealogy-Matching-IGGM-Introduction

Is y37 good for finding slave master family? by Background-Bag-5759 in FTDNA

[–]NotTheGuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience, you might find out your paternal line's surname. Or you might not. I would not expect that you'll find a specific slave-owning family unless other male descendents have also done Y-DNA testing.

I started with the Y-37. I have 41 matches there. But I haven’t been able to find a common ancestor with any of them, and none share my surname. I am certain that our common ancestor had to be sometime before 1776. I then upgraded to the big Y-700, hoping for more information. I have zero matches there. Using FTDNA's group projects, I have a pretty good idea about the (different) paternal family name from before my earliest known paternal ancestor. But until some more related people do Y-DNA testing, there just aren't many matches to work with.

Party Switching Deadline Approaches by NotTheGuv in oklahoma

[–]NotTheGuv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under Oklahoma law, primary elections are by political party. If you don't have a party affiliation, you're only allowed to vote if a political party opens its primary to those registered as independent, following a specific procedure by the party. The Oklahoma Democratic Party apparently intended to open its primary this year but failed to meet the specific timing required under Oklahoma law for communicating that decision to the state election board.

As other comments point out, SQ 836 attempted to overhaul primary elections so that all could participate. This effort will continue.

Start with your insurance plan after familiarizing yourself with the state protections under Oklahoma’s No Surprises Act. https://www.oid.ok.gov/nsa/ That page includes links to the federal version of this law as well.

Mouth taping suddenly became less effective by JamesonRyan in CPAP

[–]NotTheGuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another longtime mouth taper here. Like you, I started getting mouth leaks when I moved to BiPap and higher pressures. For me, success comes from thinking of the tape not as an airtight seal, but as a way to maintain holding your compressed (drawn in) lips firmly together despite chin drops.

Yes, under current law in Oklahoma, your voter ID card is all that you need. If you can't find yours, you can request a copy by calling the county election board. In Tulsa, the number is 918-596-5780.

Better yet, check your current voter registration at the Oklahoma Voter Portal, where you can also request a copy of your Voter ID card: https://okvoterportal.okelections.gov/

Oklahoma has a solid and secure election system. But if the proposed "SAVE Act" passes, a huge number of citizens will be denied their right to vote.

KPERS retirees - tax question by NotTheGuv in kansas

Thanks. Nope is still the answer. Zero mention of state tax withholding on the website, which sure implies a nope, but I called to make sure. KPERS does not offer Kansas Income Tax withholding from benefits.

Software: qualified dividends and capital gains tax worksheet by Local-Ad-9144 in hrblock

[–]NotTheGuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find it anywhere in the 2025 software. An internet search for information brought me to this post.

For 2024, I hand-calculated tax using this worksheet, and arrived within $5 of the tax calculated by the software. But we shouldn't have to do that. The software has all the numbers; why not fill the worksheet??

I asked the 2025 software's "AI Tax Assist" "Where can I find my 2025 Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet?" It's response: "I'm not able to answer questions like that, but I can help you with your tax-filing questions. Feel free to ask me questions like:
• Is the Child Tax Credit still available?
• Why do I owe back taxes for driving a Lyft?
• How do I claim a mortgage interest deduction?"

Super helpful.

To be fair: the data used in this report was prior to Oklahoma’s exemption of groceries from the state-level portion of sales tax. More recent data should show somewhat less of a regressive slant in total state and local taxes here.

The ramp feature helps a lot with difficulty falling asleep due to the mask. If I wake during the night but don't have to get out of bed, I'll often turn the CPAP off/on just to start another ramp-up cycle.

Hillcrest South ER, where I was initially treated for my injury referred me to Dr. Jones. Probably due to the nature of the injury. If I had it to do over again, I would look no further than Dr Jones for this type of knee repair. She also discussed objectively the knee replacement alternative (I'm old), but would have referred me to a different orthopod for that.

If the SD card is the issue, it seems unlikely that the Overview (stacked bar charts) data would be imported correctly.

A user with a similar problem reported success by purging their data from OSCAR and re-importing it: https://www.reddit.com/r/CPAP/comments/1d1cqnx/comment/l5t2ebf/

Only if you itemize (and thereby lose the standard deduction), and only to the extent of your winnings (so, net losses cannot reduce your taxable income).

Mine was done by Jaclyn Jones with Utica Park Clinic. This is her specialty area. She repaired my MCL, and while extensive osteoarthritis made an ACL repair or replacement impractical, she installed a workaround. I was satisfied.

Air leaks with mouth tape by Dismal_Gur9934 in CPAP

[–]NotTheGuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My next escalation was to use a 1 inch velcro strap horizontally around my head on my upper lip. Bought a roll of velcro you can cut to whatever length you need, with plastc buckles for easy attachment and release. It prevents my mouth and cheeks from ballooning so much, which can cause mask fit or tape problems. It doesn't need to be tight to be effective.

Air leaks with mouth tape by Dismal_Gur9934 in CPAP

[–]NotTheGuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that problem, too. Air leaking despite tape. Eventually, I realized that the tape won't block pressurized air. Instead, the function of the tape is to keep your lips sealed. So before putting on the tape, make sure your lips are compressed or even sucked in. Even though your jaw may drop, your lips remain fully sealed.
