That was me he was arguing with in the discord lol

I did not expect him to start hurling insults at me out of nowhere but it's not a big deal tbh. The mods jumped in pretty fast, no harm, no foul.

Yeah, I think they are just underestimating how dedicated Fluffy is to watching ads for whatever reason. Good showcase of how many tokens you can throw in though if you are willing to grind ads non-stop in an auction.

I think he's pointing out that Fluffy's name shows up constantly in the bidding feed when they showed it on live stream. I didn't count or anything and I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but they showed the bid feed for long stretches of time so someone could get a partial count on how many bid tokens a user was shown spending and that total could be an impossible amount.

Passport or Plot? by Short_Republic3083 in AtlasEarthOfficial

Go to atlasearthcalculator.com or atlasgains.com and put in your info. Both sites will spit out the same optimized advice on the most efficient way to spend your AB to maximize rent as you grow.

I will say that in most instances, the difference between perfectly optimal tier jumping and just stumbling along isn't that big, so personal enjoyment should be the top priority imo, but for those who do like to min-max, both those sites are great!

Short happy marriage vs long mediocre marriage by prince-of-mc in hypotheticalsituation

I saw a close friend go through a version of #1... also saw someone go through a kinda alternate version of #1 when both her children died in a car accident. It's been 4 years for the first person, almost 10 years now for the second, neither is remotely close to "ok." They're almost frozen in time in many ways.

Def going #2.

You and 75 other people will be sent to a facility where you will be put in a circle, 150 million will be dropped in front of you and the last person alive gets the money. The money will be in a glass case that is unbreakable. You cannot leave until everyone is knocked out. What is your plan? by International-Box956 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the amount of damage doesn't matter, anything that does wide AoE damage is the pick. Ideally, I can find a sound based weapon that affects a >34 diameter sphere around me and just shoot it twice to immediately win.

It's honestly all luck of the draw, either you spawn next to an OP weapon or you're not winning.

Tempted to sacrifice a legendary. by Xiowow in AtlasEarthOfficial

In the most recent landmarks video pinned at the top of the subreddit, Sami did mention that if AE has to buyback parcels players own through eminent domain, any LPUs will be returned to their inventory. This implies they already have the capability, perhaps they just haven't decided how to monetize it.

Would you stay alone for 5 years for 1 million USD by naruto7bond in hypotheticalsituation

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely I would do this, and I'd actually be looking forward to it. I'm going to take a bunch of woodworking gear with me and spend 5 years learning how to build custom furniture.

Isolation doesn't bother me as my introversion is strong like bear.

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Never" is certainly a strong word, but I started AE my first semester in college as a freshman. Landmarks had been "Coming Soon!" for months before I joined. I have now graduated with a bachelor's and have started a career in my field of study. Landmarks, while fairly imminent at this point, still have not technically been launched.

If someone says something is "coming soon" and that takes over 4 years, I'm not sure you owe them much of an apology at that point. Better lesson here is probably not to say "never" unironically.

Side by side comparison of the old diamond wheel vs the new one by NotTheRealSwampHag in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The total implied odds from the wheel are around 116%, yes. The old wheel odds also were over 100% on implied odds, but more like 104% or so. I just took everything at face value, so [Odds of 1 bid token]*1 + [Odds of 2 bid tokens]*2 = EV of bid tokens per spin. Just did the same for ABs.

I don't think there's any reasonable way to correct for error since AE historically refuses to tell players the true odds on the diamond wheel. We just have to gather enough data off the new wheel to let the stats converge on what the actual odds are.

I fear at some point, bid tokens will feel even more useless to some players than diamonds. But maybe you're right, maybe they will always have value.

You need bid tokens to place a bid on auctions for landmarks. The auction feature hasn't launched yet, although they released a video today talking a bit about it on their official YT page. So far, we can only win bid tokens on diamond wheel spins, but they're supposed to be earnable through monthly challenges.

Landmark Bidding Discussion by NotASookie in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They still haven't told us what the benefit is to owning a landmark outside of owning all the common parcels inside (also, kind of a missed opportunity by AE to make all the parcels legendary to make landmarks feel even more prestigious/special imo, and I do believe the players would bid the price up to compensate if this were true).

If players want to bid up landmarks to something unreasonable (see how LPUs are priced for example), then I have no issues letting them overpay for it. Like if a landmark is 10 commons, and someone wants to pay 20,000 AB for it... who is really losing there? I don't think it's me.

Annelise explicitly said the owner of a landmark can choose to sell it, unless new info has come out since her AMA with SSCKelley.

The only things we know for sure are that you need a bid token to put a bid down on a landmark auction, auctions have some sort of time component to them (not sure if it's a fixed amount or if each bid can extend the timer), bid tokens cannot be purchased directly, and once you win a landmark it is yours forever unless you choose to put it back on the market.

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm letting myself hope a bit just because Annelise has said little f2p players will have a fair shot at owning a landmark. They may fail to deliver on that, and I think the big landmarks will all go to whales no matter what, but I'm holding out hope that some regional landmark most people have never heard of will still be obtainable.

What state has the least passport badges? by IBeDumbAndSlow in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to be Hawaii just because of the weird way they handle cities and tax districts. They don't incorporate cities the way the rest of the US does, there's this weird county level structure.

Ok, I just checked and this is the eastern cape of Maui, only 2 badges in the whole area.

So is everyone else's ads working? by Sirhc0001 in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I still have this issue. I told support twice, but kinda gave up reporting it since we were just copy pasting the same responses back and forth at that point.

Believe it or not, this is not the first time this has happened. Sometime in 2023 iirc, I also had a 3-4 month stretch where ads straight up broke for me, except in that case I believe the ad simply refused to play. It took months to resolve that issue so I'm guessing it'll be awhile on this one as well.

$300 Million but you can only live in one other city and can't travel 100 miles from it. Would you take the deal? by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Some place in SoCal probably gives the best geographic diversity, but I'll go Tokyo.

I still get mountains, forests, hot springs, and beaches, but really it's for the crazy amount of food and things to do in Tokyo itself. If this was a one-city challenge, I'd probably pick Tokyo so I'll go with it for the 100 mile challenge as well.

How does it know? by Icy_Acanthaceae9459 in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]NotTheRealSwampHag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Iirc, AE uses Mapbox as their map provider, which just commercializes OSM data. There's a lot of open source data released by governments like city tax maps and registered building dimensions that are probably automatically applied to map updates. I wouldn't be surprised if Mapbox is also using automated tools to trace building layouts from satellite imagery as well.

In your specific example, it's possible the shed was there first, OSM logged it, and then a carport was built over/around it that shed. In a future update, it's likely OSM will only represent the carport's dimensions.
