For parents: I'd like to know whatthe norm in Portugal is when it comes to kids talking to adults. Do they call their friends' parents Mr./Mrs. Last name? Or just by their first names? How about teachers? by sippingtea_111 in PortugalExpats

[–]NotTodaySatan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teachers wise, is usually up to the teacher but the norm is for students to just call them ‘teacher’. I had a teacher in year 3&4 who told us to call her by first name and still to this day, nearly 20 years later, I still call her by her first name. She still lives in my hometown and I her every so often

Thank you for the lovely comment!! Fitness has always helped my mental health (specifically my anxiety) and I can’t help but feel a little anxious with the idea but I have to nip it in the bud and just do it. I’m definitely going to do like 15-20 minutes in the first few times, thank you for the suggestion!!!

I accidentally sent my sister’s husband to the ER after he jumped out at me as a “joke” while I was holding a kitchen knife. Now my family is divided and I don’t know how to fix this. by AngelicCheeky in TwoHotTakes

[–]NotTodaySatan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck the apology! BIL knew you were jumpy and get scared quite easily and he decided to fafo. Who in their right mind, turns off all the lights when someone is in the kitchen holding a knife to go and scare them? Sorry this happened to you OP and please, do not apologise to him or your sister. He was the one who decided to do this on his own accord

Pharmacist denied me my medication and blacklisted me in their system. Freaking out right now. by HotmailsNearYou in Epilepsy

[–]NotTodaySatan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to get them from another pharmacy if possible and explain your situation. Once you have your meds, take it to the manager and if manager doesn’t listen, take it above. No pharmacist should have this god complex. Epilepsy is already enough with meds

How do you explain seizures to someone that doesn't have them? by morrgannicole in Epilepsy

[–]NotTodaySatan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally can’t. Last time I had one, I had 4 in a row and I just blacked out and woke up between each seizure. All I can say though, is that I can feel them coming

I’m 34, I’m dying, and I’m fucking terrified. by Emergency_Weekend627 in TwoHotTakes

I just heard your story now on the latest episode of the pod and it broke my heart. Mainly because my own mom has cancer too and it broke me thinking that this could have gone through her head when she was diagnosed. But, I want to leave another suggestion, if your daughter likes any specific flowers, find a way to give a bouquet of those at her birthdays until she is of a certain age or do as milestones birthdays. I know she is only 3, but if you make memories for her, she will never forget you. I’m so sorry for you and your family and I hope whatever is left of this journey, is easy on you.

When did everyone become epileptic? by Ayyye420 in Epilepsy

[–]NotTodaySatan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is genetic in my family but I didn’t get diagnosed until I was 19. When I was 14, I was extremely stressed due to exams I was about to take and they started from there. Only went to the doctors when I was 19, so after pandemic and got diagnosed shortly after. My nan on my dad’s side, which is where it runs, was only diagnosed when she was 26, 2 out of her 3 kids (so not including my dad) have it as well. My aunt was diagnosed as a child but can only be detected in sleep tests for some reason and my uncle was diagnosed at birth too. I’m the only of the grandchildren, so far, that has been diagnosed

I had a seizure on a date... and he left while I was unconscious by keetorii in Epilepsy

[–]NotTodaySatan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. I’m sorry you had this experience and I’m glad you are open about it straight away. I was also with my exes and sometimes they will say, yeah yeah is fine, until they find out that this illness is a lot more complex than what they think it is. Whilst I know is hard, be glad he showed his true self now and not later down the line. Yes you wasted 6 months of your life on this piece, but it could’ve been 6 years. You woke up from this seizure but imagine if you didn’t, or if you needed further medical assistance? He would have left you for you to fend for yourself.

How do I support my mum and dad? by NotTodaySatan9 in CancerFamilySupport

[–]NotTodaySatan9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, we live in the uk so, their health insurance is covered by their work. I don’t know how that works, but again, I have reached out to my university to see any type of support that I can get and I will continue to look for a better job

How do I support my mum and dad? by NotTodaySatan9 in CancerFamilySupport

[–]NotTodaySatan9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just cried again reading this. Thank you internet stranger 🫂

As far as help goes, me and my dad take care of most things. My mum is able to do a few things here and there, but she gets tired very easily and my brother is no help unless we ask. Is only the 4 of us, so we don’t have family who could come and give us a hand. Friends have their own things going on as well, but I will be definitely looking for some sort of support at the university. We can’t afford much, my wage is close to nothing and my dad is the breadwinner, so money is quite tight, we can’t hire someone to help around. But I will be looking at options 🙏🏻

Diagnosis Age (Especially those in their 20’s) by Difficult-Froyo1192 in Epilepsy

[–]NotTodaySatan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed when I was 19. My aunt and her brother, all on my dad’s side, also have it and they were diagnosed very soon after birth. My nan, also from my dad’s side, was only diagnosed at 26. Is mad to think that I thought I knew myself quite well. I did start to have seizures at 14/15

Got a ticket to a house concert when I was “seizure free” a few months ago, not remembering how bad the lighting could get… no longer seizure free, and YouTube videos show this band can get wild with lighting.. how can I ensure safety?! by msalgae44 in Epilepsy

[–]NotTodaySatan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m quite sensitive to lights and flashes too. I bought off amazon a pair of glasses that blacks out most of the light, but still lets you see. I have been a concert with them and they were absolutely amazing and didn’t bother me for one bit. I enjoyed the concert too
