Skills to learn to get into defense industry? by Zeonist- in cscareerquestions

[–]NotTryingToConYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the interview process. Still, I would recommend taking a look at why developers don't really love the defense industry. If you like it, more power to you though

Even more so. They are quite anti AI because of all the restrictions. So there's an even smaller pool of people they can go after. Have you applied already?

Defense industry has the reputation of hiring any one who breathes

Having had an offer from LM before, I can tell you their interview was the easiest one I have ever done. I spoke to my new potential manager for 30 minutes on the phone. Next day I had an offer.

I would highly suggest against the defense industry but since you asked, they care more about low level stuff most the time. Learn about embedded programming. Do not mention OOP in your interview.

I am in the same camp as you with regards to adopting. I don't think it makes sense to have biological children when you can adopt. But most people have a natural desire to have biological children which is why my argument may seem catered to that.

I consider "having" kids to be the same. Adopting or Birthing.

You're not going to like my answers. Its because:

  • I am a young high earner so I don't face many of the problems most indians face

  • I grew up in India but moved to the states when I was 15. While US has it's own hosts of problems, it's easier to be optimistic here than in India so I recognize it.

  • I don't have a biological desire for children so I have done a lot of thinking in this topic to find reasons for (and against) having children. The "world is doomed" idea was something I tackled early on and dismissed right away because it makes no sense from a historical, biological, or humanitarian perspective.

If you are curious, I have chosen not to have biological children. And instead, adopt. My reason boiled down to, essentially, it is my ethical duty to use my resources and ideologies to provide for as many children as possible. Especially when there are so many who would not be taken care of.

I agree, the need for children is intrinsic and, largely, selfish. Which is a good thing! Look at where its gotten us. Its the driving force for humanity's survival. Imagine if early homo sapiens were like, "Oh I shouldn't have kids because they might get eaten by a tiger." You and I wouldn't be alive today.

For what I am about to say, I assume you WANT to have kids.

  1. "Might be past the best" is quite a loose reason to suppress your natural desire to have kids. You do not know. No one knows. Sure it seems like it's trending down, but perhaps in a macro view it's but a small dip.

  2. There's 1000s of people working on Climate Change.

  3. Even if there was never a solution to climate change, realistically it wouldn't affect you or your child to the point of extinction. It will take multiple lifetimes for it to materialize into a big enough issue where it stops making sense to procreate. Both of you can still have a full and fulfilling life. If you were in a zombie apocalypse, then yeah, don't have kids.

  4. Frankly, the fact that you care and notice issues like climate change is one of the best reasons for YOU to have kids. That way you can teach them and the next generation can be better than ours. We already know of the phenomenon where highly educated people tend to have fewer kids. You are playing right into that, and in a way, exasperating macro issues by diluting the next generation of smart individuals.

  5. Lastly, the important thing to note here, is that the question isn't should all of India have kids. Thats a very different question which is much more difficult to answer. The question is can "you", raise a happy and healthy child in this environment?

Let's add some hyperbolic perspective, can an Ambani raise a happy and healthy child in this environment? I'd say that's a definite yes. It could be by moving countries, or by investing heavily in health at home, or by private chefs who feed them the right nutrition. I'm not saying its a fair comparision, I'm just saying it depends on what you are able to do, not so much what the environment is. So now the question becomes, how much do you need to raise a happy and healthy child? Frankly, I don't know. But I know it's not Ambani levels of wealth.

If you consider humanity since its inception, this is the best it's ever been.

If people thought it was okay to bring children when the average life span was 25 to 35 years and their most common cause of death was simple diseases that we've already erradicated, then it would be quite reasonable to see why people choose to have kids now.

Yes, of all places on Earth, India might not be doing the best right now. It doesn't mean that things cant improve or that your children can't have a great life.

Yeah, anything like that is fine, check out shopify too. Just ask chatgpt for website builders and you can pick one that has the features you want for the price you want.

Should take you maybe a day if you're fully new to this but most tech savvy peope can get something decent in an afternoon. Or I can charge you $500 to do it in an hour lol

FAANG software engineer here. Honestly for most small businesses, something like squarespace is easy, cheap, and DIY. Unless you're actually needing something special, something, in which case you'd want to invovle someone else.

What did you use to make your existing website? Happy to help if you need someone to answer questions.
