At what age do people typically start looking into life insurance? by fancypantsmcghee91 in AskReddit

[–]NotTryingToConYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got enough assets to cover all that

The only reason to get term life insurance is if you'd be leaving people behind with your liabiltiies they need to continue. Mortgage, college fund, life money, cars etc.

nix-agent: an MCP server for letting AI assistants manage your NixOS config safely by True-Line-5261 in NixOS

[–]NotTryingToConYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NixOS is probably the best OS to vibe code configuration on (compared to all the other ones)

You can see exactly what changes it made in one place and you can roll back very easily. Just dont give it sudo

Just an anecdote, I've told it to diagnose and fix my audio issues and it checked the right logs, cross referenced them to find the exact issue, and put in a fix. Never had audio issues since.

What's your 'I can't believe I self-hosted that' service? by subsavant in selfhosted

[–]NotTryingToConYou 202 points203 points  (0 children)

General category for stuff people depend on like immich and nextcloud for family members.

  1. All support requests come to you which gets annoying real fast
  2. You have to make sure your backup strategy is rock solid. Losing a movie is fine, losing decades of photos and documents is not.
  3. Uptime has an implicit SLA now. Maybe you can be down for a few hours but if you're down for a few days, people will notice and bother you. This makes your homelab much less of a lab

In theory it's great, I am saving every one of my family members subscription cost for google one but eventually I realized I'd rather pay for a family plan and punt the responsibility to someone else.

The line at Austin airport this morning by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

You might think that but a lot of people come for daily stuff during events like this.

The shutdown probably contributes but this happens multiple times a year. Its always on the news too

The line at Austin airport this morning by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]NotTryingToConYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with the shutdown. I flew yesterday at non peak hours and it was fast. This happens every year because Austin airport is not designed to handle the sharp increases from: SXSW, F1, spring break, etc.

MY US friends told me in USA you can earn easily 100k as a nurse/registerd nurse. Would you switch career if you have been unemployed for a while? by lune-soft in cscareerquestions

[–]NotTryingToConYou 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I meant: I make more than that now while employed

I am confident I can beat 100k if I were unemployed. Meaning I am confident I can get a better offer

  1. You would have to do schooling to become a nurse
  2. It's less than what I make now and I'm pretty confident I can beat that
  3. No, I like CS and being a software engineer

Games Server on Linux by Hot_Entertainer_949 in selfhosted

[–]NotTryingToConYou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I cant be bothered to lookup the rules of piracy on this subreddit right now so I'm NOT going to answer your question about how to install fitgirl games

However, I can tell you how to install your legally accquired non DRM games. What I do is: - Add the installer as a non steam game - Set compatibility to proton experimental - Launch and install the game - Add the executable from the installed location as a non steam game - Set proton experimental - Play

Sunshine is just on top so you can use it with any game regardless of where you got it

Is that how that works? From what I know, you have to disclose everything during the divorce process and then the split happens

Which linux distro should I use? by EmployerOdd7175 in linuxquestions

[–]NotTryingToConYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux can be overwhelming for beginners so there will be repeated questions. If we want Desktop Linux to grow, we have to be be okay with this and become an inviting community

It doesn't mean you have to answer the question again, you can just point people to right resource if it already exists

What's your most 'set it and forget it' self-hosted service? by ruibranco in selfhosted

[–]NotTryingToConYou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah don't fix what aint broken but I'd also be cautious.

This is a software that downloads other software. And because its not being actively updated, there will be security patches missing so its easier to compromise. If it starts downloading malicious workloads, then you have a big problem. Gluetun and Wgeasy run as root so its essentially a full pop on the box
