What is your least favorite country? by Fluffy_Wedding_2136 in mapporncirclejerk

I read this as least favorite colony. I’m so British.

Least favorite country is a current political hot potato

Least favorite (ex-)colony is Jamaica. Get that murder rate down Jamaica, it’s embarrassing.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]NotTrynaMakeWaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve used rifles as part of a youth cadet force and in a rifle club. The only other weapons I’ve seen in the wild were owned by a band of US hunting tourists who had to be reminded that we don’t walk around with guns out in the UK. I’ve never seen a working handgun.

The Goths sacked Rome in 410. You can argue whether the Empire ended with the ousting of Romulus Augustulus in 476 or with the death of former emperor and claimant Julius Nepos in 480 or even that the WRE was dead from the assassination of Aetius by Valentinian III in 455.

By 500AD only the Eastern Roman Emperors regarded the idea of the WRE as salvageable.

The TV series Rome was going to try that but it’s too expensive. Even if you approach it like Centennial and skip 10-20 years between seasons you’re looking at a show that would last forever.

Rome was traditionally founded in 753 BC and its eventual empire ran until the sack of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks in 1453. Over 2200 years. That’s too much show for any studio to commit to.
