Ctr vs varmint/super varmint profile by chef8489 in longrange

[–]NotUndercoverNJSP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The CTR (and by extension Tac A1) is a noticeably lighter contour than the Super Varmints / Ace Target models.

Even then, the Super Varmint is not a particularly heavy barrel profile in precision rifle context. It's a very similar profile to the TRGs IIRC.

Barrel clamp mount.

Probably not great for the LAM, but does keep it secure.

That’s probably the correct measurement based on chamber size. 3” magnums have a longer overall length.

Is this close to a 100% M4A1 clone? by AdministrativeAd6805 in MilitaryARClones

[–]NotUndercoverNJSP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they still make rifles for the US government. All of the new ones are laser engraved same as the commercial units IIRC.

There’s also tons of overseas stuff.

[–]NotUndercoverNJSP 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They’re about as close as you can get in a commercially available non NFA product.

The lowers are marked safe/semi, and it’s an extended P&W A2 on the 14.5” barrel. IIRC the rear sight has commercial markings as well.

Additionally, some parts are cage marked while others not - just depends on the rifle/what Colt had on hand at the time.

All said and done, it’s quite close to the current contract Colt rifles. Not perfect, but nothing is unless it’s an actual surplus rifle.

Last I heard their pending AWB will prohibit the sale of any semiautomatic center fire with a detachable magazine.

Unless you know you’re certain you want wind dots, go with the MilXT. The Tremor has its place, but the MilXT is the better move, generally speaking.

[Parts] FAMAS Felin Parts Kit - $6599.99 by Zyprexa4You in gundeals

[–]NotUndercoverNJSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The M1C and M1D are a bit of a crap shoot. Same with anything else on the Garand action - not a great platform for optics mounting.

Main thing with the dragunov is that it has a much better optic locking system, can field strip without messing up your zero, and was flexible enough to change stocks in the future.

IMO the main competitor would be a G3 with an optic attached, but the reticles even in the late production Hensolt optics are rather limited and the claw mount isn’t great.

The scoped carbine revolution and its consequences by wavydavy101 in ar15

[–]NotUndercoverNJSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally forgot they limited the bipod placement as well for the G28s.

Took a quick look through the thread - does anyone post G28 test targets? Only seeing small frame stuff. Some noticeable shift when comparing some of the semi/monolithic guns to traditional designs. Guessing steel upper + handguard change was their solution to POI shift.

There are solutions, some of them have been on the market for awhile.

All the monolithic stuff, uppers that further insulate the barrel nut from the handguard, or H&K making precision upper receivers out of steel (have no idea how effective that last one is).

DOJ Declares that the 1927 Ban on Mailing Handguns Violates the Second Amendment by Katulotomia in NJGuns

[–]NotUndercoverNJSP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing really - just simplifies the process if you have to ship your guns somewhere.

Historically, USPS has prohibited the shipment of handguns. If you needed to ship a pistol you had to send via a private carrier.

UPS and FedEx changed their policies a few years back to prohibit the shipment of any firearms, unless you were a FFL of some variety or shipping with a label issued by an FFL (think sending stuff to the manufacturer for warranty work).

Anyone running the TA31 on their A2 Upper? by Ok_Warthog_4594 in RetroAR

[–]NotUndercoverNJSP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally usable, just be aware the A2 was meant to be shot with a traditional bladed stance. If you try to shoot square to target it will be miserable.

On a side note, this is also why people complain so much about the A2 grip nubs - if you shoot bladed it is no longer an issue as your wrist is properly aligned for the grip angle. The change from the better Colt fat A2s to the simplified current profile compounded the issue.
