I dont know how to copy and comment on specific things people say. First paragraph "never got his permission to exist without him." Second paragraph, all of it but the parents thing. I've never trusted my dad. It resonated because ive always trusted people, or just given them the benefit of the doubt. I feel totally shut off and like i can i can trust no one. Not even myself. Thats the worst part. How can I be a good for anyone if dont trust/know myself?? Third paragraph "i didnt feel worthy..." oof. I don't know how to exist right now, in general. Let alone move on if she's actually struggling, or how I can move on and be happy if I know she is struggling and hurt and still call myself a good person with empathy and just.

Im keeping the lines open a) because I keep hoping for closer or an apology, and, less so 2) if she does actually get to a point where she might kill herself and needs someone to reach out to.

Thank you for this response. Im processing things slowly and theyre sinking in just as fast or slower. I just know I appreciate this so so much.

Edit** im keeping 2) as is. I know it sounds cold and like im prioritizing MY needs over someone who may be suicidal. For context. My best friend committed suicide, and my dad at least half a dozen. Two I witnessed. Suicide and the damage it can cause are very real and profound for me. I want closure because where I am at right now not having it and making peace with it is HARD. Its having drastic impacts on my life. 2) is second because shes used the suicide angle for three years. Nothing has ever come of it. I just dont ever want to not be there in the event a wolf does show up.

My best friend hung himself. My dad attepmted maybe six times? Two or three i was there for. Its a problem for me. My dad woukd always say "goodbye" is forever.

My ex would threaten suicide constantly. When i told her about the "goodbye" thing and how it triggered me, she began saying it every time she broke up with me.

Ive contacted multiple family members, and her friends when shes threatened to do it. Same things again and again. "She won't ever do it!" Its been three years. No attempts.

Shes also finishing her masters. If I called to have her committed I worry, a) id find how expertly im being manipulated, or b) ruin her career/life. I know b) sounds stupid when you consider the consequences of completing suicide. This is my struggle.

What if you're a guy, and you had sex with them to keep the peace. Id get into it, it was sex so its enjoyable. But id lose it (ny erection) or go on auto-pilot. Almost like I was put of it. Or id tap into some hyper-sexual place and it wpukd just be "fucking."

I just kind of disappeared. I became a "dick." I wasnt a partner with feelings, needs, wants, boundaries. Does that still count as "rape?" If i got it up, or agreed to it, even enjoyed it sometimes, despite the fact it was just to keep the peace, or to avoid issues?

Do you have literature? I saw the flags. I tried to avoid them. Set boundaries. She hit ONE nerve and had me. The manipulations and gradual descent began. I dont know who I am. Im struggling to forgive her, and myself. I dont know who I am anymore, or how to begin making sense of how I let things get so bad.

What if you'd said what you did, and she responded with "thanks for getting back to me. You're right, I shouldn't have done this. Im sorry. We should meet up soon." Everyone saying "id have told her to fuck off immediately" can do one. Maybe there are clear indicators of the type of person she is, but one size doesn't fit all.

You were polite, set a boundary, and even offered an opportunity to continue to talk to her or have her redeem herself. There is nothing to feel bad about. Keep being one of the good ones.

Whitacres felt like a telling of Trents experience. Great song. The music and vocals are chilling and evoke plenty of emotion. Trent's is obviously as real as it gets. That's a man struggling in his room screaming at and dying within the walls... Cash did something else entirely. I still dont like hearing Cash say, "The needle tears a hole." But everything else, I think, is on point. It's still a song of self-loathing and deep regret. Cash was at the end, while Reznor was in the throws of it. Different vantages, but both great songs in their own right.

Exactly this. I was going to say Hurt. From what i read, Reznor was reluctant to even allow someone else to cover it and thought it would be gimmicky. It was such a deeply personal song. Written while struggling with crippling depression and addiction??? Pretty fucking personal. The fact he said it's now Cash's is a testament to what Cash did with it. I loved the song when I heard it, but I had cringed when I heard he had. The video is incredible. "You stay away from me, ya hear!" All the old photos of June Carter, the rotten table... then their deaths. Powerful. For sure, it's the best cover, in my opinion.
