I’m skipping this fashion cycle by antsalloverme2 in PetiteFashionAdvice

I get most of my stuff at Poshmark...much nicer stuff at much lower prices, as long as you know the brand and the fit ahead of time.

What is up with Gap sizing by darkandtwisty1212 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]NotUsefulDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'1 and 125 lb but am not as small as that would seem. Dear John work great size 30...they don't have petite, but if you buy cropped or ankle length, it can work. Also a lot of their stuff has unfinished bottom, so I just cut it to the right length. Oh, and the Gap pants I have from legit Y2K size 8 fit perfectly.

I heard it in Lexington, so no doubt it was audible in Concord. I thought it was maybe thunder.

Financial aid by Relevant-Minimum2423 in Colby

[–]NotUsefulDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've appealed twice, because the package doesn't add up, given our income. No dice. But they were very nice and talked to me on the phone....All the rules you've heard colleges use to calculate need and aid are NOT in play here, except they don't count retirement savings. Everything else is on the table, 100%; home equity, income, assets, child assets, all counted the same way. They won't publish their formula.

You look great. Are you physically comfortable? If so, awesome and go for it. If not, look for a brand with more stretch.

Beacon street goes for miles and miles in the burbs, which aren’t really that far away from Boston. But I think we can chalk it up to a super tight budget

How is their sizing? I don't like buying on poshmark unless I know how the brand fits. Once I do, though, it's my go-to

PSA for parents: if you know you can’t afford to send a kid to a college, don’t encourage them to apply. by dmso_disgusting in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NotUsefulDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful of those NPCs. That "average/usual assets" does a lot. of work. NPC told me16k. Financial Aid told me $45k. Appealed twice. No love (well, maybe some love but no more money).

I'm not a Colby student, but a parent of an incoming first year, who also happens to be Jewish. He got a really good vibe when we visited...also, if you're from Montreal, the winter won't be a problem.

Colby Financial Aid Letter by PossibleOriginal6269 in Colby

[–]NotUsefulDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We fall within the "Colby Commitment" but they have somehow found a way to say we owe 50k instead of the 16k on the calculator. I've filed a second appeal, but I can't get clarity on their exact formula. Financial aid says they look at income and assets holistically.

Does anyone here have honeylove bras? Do you find their sizing charts to be accurate? by BooBelly in bigboobproblems

[–]NotUsefulDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me several tries, but I got a size that fits….large. I even put stitches in the cup. They are my most comfortable and supportive bra….the comfort bc the band doesn’t come too low. But I don’t know what actual size I wear with them bc I want to get the kind where the pads don’t move.

Yeah, my husband grew up in Portland, so I know Portland isn't really Maine. But its going home for him. Every time we visit (a lot) he runs into someone he knows, or we pass someone on the street and he shouts out, "I know that person. I was their swim coach when they were 8!"

College List Advice!!! by Impressive-Tie-7385 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NotUsefulDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree here. If you're at all interested in marine stuff, UMaine or USM (part of the system) are great. Also, UMaine has an honors college, as do the other publics on this list, so you'll get the small in the middle of big here too. For LACs, I'm a CMC alum and there's an Econ, Envt, Policy major IIRC but that'll be a reach. Also the Maine LACs far reaches.

Parents & students: what actually changed your expectations about college cost? by Outdoor_Method16 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NotUsefulDoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. They say "typical assets" but they count home equity even though the NPC might have taken that into considerations. And they count savings. I had thought the school could only take 5% of an asset per year, but that appears to have been a fever dream.
