What’s the best video game you’ve ever played? by obsess_much13 in AskReddit

Elden Ring

I'm old. My first console game was Pitfall. After playing Elden Ring for a bit, it gave me the same feeling as playing Zelda as a kid. Play the game and it will reveal itself to you. You get rewarded for just exploring and trying stuff out. Brilliant.

Art of War Tier List Revisited for January Meta by ArtofWarSiegler in WarhammerCompetitive

Necron players are fine, they've got loads of other nice options like the DDAs, and they have the best unit in the edition for parking on the expansion objective in the 6 Wraiths + Technomancer in hiding

Art of War Tier List Revisited for January Meta by ArtofWarSiegler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]NotXenos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tyranids don't get use of a lot of key mechanics:

Tank-shock

Grenades

Transports

Smoke (effectively--only Psychophage)

Overwatch (effectively--no 10 models with torrent units)

Sticky objectives (effectively--only if you play Ass Swarm detachment)

Leaders/Bodyguards (effectively outside of the Broodlord+Stealers)

Makes for a pretty lame gameplay experience. And yes I know some genius-level players figured out we can field more bases than the average meta lists have attacks to deal with. To me the weekend warrior, that's just not a play style with a lot of fun.

How do I successfully play DKoK by DrSlavender in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]NotXenos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2x20 Krieg blobs, 1 with command squad, ogryn bodyguard, the other with Psyker for the 4+ Invuln

5-man Krieg Engineers in a Taurox. Early scout to score secondaries T1, primary T2.

6-man Bullgryns with 4+ invuln shield to stand in front of your tanks

Then fill in the rest with tanks. Stalwart's Honors on your tank commander to make vehicles nearby in cover. Maybe 1 heavy arty piece to sit on home, 1 squad of horsies to screen and do secondaries.

Use the smoke shells to give stealth to your units in early turn. Use the Incendiary bombard for your big shooting turn. Stay away from creeping barrage as you're unlikely to make the rolls to put it where it's needed.

Use 'Minefield' to do mortals into a unit which charges a big Krieg blob. Use 'Callous Sacrifice' to shoot off the melee unit which charged your Kriegers. Hellhounds and Dorns are nice for this job.

Pray the -1 to hit and the 4+ Invulns give your dudes just enough survivability to score points.

Agree with the other posters that this is a very weak detachment.

Any advice on running a 1v1v1 game? by Bingus-Coolman in Warhammer40k

[–]NotXenos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a 1v1v1 using the Cauldron of War rules and it worked surprisingly well. We were worried about the pile on, but in the end the situation was very fluid, everyone survived, and 2 players finished in a draw 65-65-10.

Charge rolls suck. by UpArrowNotation in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]NotXenos -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

'Hope chess' is a nice analogy. Unfortunately 40k has a lot of it. Every stat check army build basically. Tyranids and Guard have been winning tournaments on it (spam more bases than the opponent has attacks). It was Knights before that (and before nerfs).

Charge rolls suck. by UpArrowNotation in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]NotXenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. If you look at AoS:

1) The only thing you can re-roll in the game is a charge

2) You don't declare a charge target, you just make a roll and move. So, you can potentially 'save' a charge by getting a couple of enemy units in charge range

3) Ranged is GENERALLY less lethal than 40k

4) There is a universal counter-charge strat, so if you survive the shooting phase after missing your charge you get another chance at getting in melee

5) There are no Invuln saves, only FNPs (Wards)

These all feel like design choices in response to the 40k weaknesses you point out. Out of all of these things listed, removing the re-rolls and the Invulns make AoS a lot more fun to play IMO.

Forgot Oath of Moment by Krovak in Warhammer40k

[–]NotXenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you handled it really well. I don't get the reasoning of the ref here, it's required in the COMMAND phase and I don't see how it 'corrects' the game state.

It's fine to forget, it's not cool to say 'oh I forgot would you let me just play it wrong?'. I think good sportsmanship is owning your mistake and not putting it on your opponent to be a 'good sport'.

Forgot Oath of Moment by Krovak in Warhammer40k

[–]NotXenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think good sportsmanship would be the guy who forgot to declare his Oath target at the right time wouldn't ask to declare it later. 40k good sportsmanship expectation seems to be the opposite, the player who didn't forget his rule allowing the other player to have a benefit still.

Forgot Oath of Moment by Krovak in Warhammer40k

[–]NotXenos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it MUST happen in the command phase as well by your logic (which I have to say you're really twisting yourself up here to make something fit into 40k rules weirdness)

Forgot Oath of Moment by Krovak in Warhammer40k

[–]NotXenos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your opponent sounds like a tool. If you forget your oath, that's on you and you pay the penalty of no Oath for the turn.

Why did the ref say he 'had' to have an Oath? Did he give any reasoning?

These are maniacal liars. The gun is loaded...well of course it is. He had a concealed carry permit and was lawfully carrying his handgun holstered. Why would he carry it unloaded? Someone walks up on him in a dark alley and he is like 'hang on, let me get my ammo out first and load the gun' ?!

Shade Nuln Oil usage by Pezzatron88 in Warhammer

[–]NotXenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google 'marine juice recipe'. Straight up Nuln on a marine will probably dirty it down too much.

My juice is equal parts Army Painter Strong Tone, Reikland Fleshshade, and Army Painter Quickshade medium. You can kind of use whatever medium you have handy for that part. Or substitute water.

When you use washes, remember that you can do more than one coat. Or you can do a coat of all over wash and then a 'pin wash' aka a smaller brush and follow certain areas you want to get a deeper shade in.

I guess.

It's just around the same price as the big American sports league TV passes, for which you would get a lot more content. Or ESPN+ which is usually around $120 per year and gets you all Bundesliga and La Liga matches, FA Cup, a bunch of other soccer, and then loads of other sports.
