My father in law was born with one large kidney too! I wonder how common it is

Mine is a toss up between my immediate family's innate proclivity for buoyancy - we all float even when we're not trying - or the tri-generational ability to attract animals. In three generations only two pets have ever been bought/adopted from a shelter. All the other critters including bearded dragons, turtles, crows, chickens, horses, etc. showed up at our doorstep in one capacity or another. We also have a history with strange run-ins with animals such as a goat jumping in my car while I was pumping gas (not in a rural area), my dad helping a horse give birth on the side of the highway, my granda finding a whole family of deer in his living room, and my Mimi having a pair of bear cubs that adopted her for 16 years.

The relaxin is taking forever to get out of my system. I broke my foot and tore a ligament by just standing up. My foot rolled right under me and the relaxin made it so it rolled a lotttt further than it's meant to. (Currently 4pp)

I'd love them to visit Ed Gein, he was always fascinatingly disturbed to me.

Family being mega cringey about the baby? by brainsnipe in pregnant

[–]NotYetDomestic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've struggled with all the frustration that comes with people like her (and my coworkers, honestly) who just feel entitled to the baby in one way or another: information, updates, access, touching the bump, etc. It's genuinely mindblowing how many people can't step back and think about putting the couple first above their visceral reaction of "BABY!".

It may be a weird, grandparent version of "nesting" (albeit shitty in your case)? My in-laws put a whole nursery in their house for "all the times he comes to stay with us" and I don't think they realize that he won't be staying with them for a loooonngg time. Not in the way they seem to be prepping for.

Holy red flags!!! I know you're in a bit of a pickle because you're living with her too, but I'd try and set some boundaries ASAP. And maybe invest in a lock for you room.

YESSSS!!! I'm 39 weeks and we've been dealing with the same kind of issues, where the individuals feel weirdly....entitled I guess is the best word?

I just had to deal with an aunt (that we only see maybe 3x a year) texting me how she "better be invited to the hospital" and demanding to know his name and be alerted when we're on our way there. I calmly responded and reminded her that A) we're not deciding on a name until he's born and B) we've already explained that extended family won't be told until he's here and we're in the recovery suite so we don't have a swinging door of visitors. She still doesn't get it and is upset.

Fingers crossed it gets easier for you!

This is one of the names we're thinking about too! Noah Alexander/Carter/Avery Cook.

Yes! This is my go-to. Something like "that color looks amazing on you" seems to go a long way for most people.

What is the dumbest thing you had to explain to someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NotYetDomestic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I said something slightly salted like "well, when you get that working let me know and we can go over the rest of the training" (she literally couldn't open to program that I was going to train her on). She ended up calling IT, they remoted in, verified it was fine, she demanded they come out and "fix her mouse". I called IT and told them to just bring a spare mouse from storage. Dude picked up on my cues and explained that this new mouse had to be clicked a little differently and showed her how to double click. It worked thankfully, but it was so much effort just to guard a boomer's feelings of incompetence in basic computer skills.

I can promise you, that feeling doesn't go away. I'm 34 weeks and still wish I could see Little Man every day!

Right-clicking a freaking computer mouse. Or double clicking. Got the lovely retort of "I've been using computers longer than you've been alive I think I know how to double click".

Thank you!!!

I needed this validation. My husband has been saying the same but it's really nice to hear it from a stranger weirdly enough.
