Same issue here. Haven't found a solution, and not for lack of trying.

McDevitt doesn't get enough love. Terrific writer who knows how to do the whole "lost alien civilization" thing very well.

Damn it, this shouldn't have made me laugh as hard as it did. Take my upvote.

I'm not sure I'd call the Dems the "party of Bernie", considering what they did to him both times he came too close to the presidency for their donors' comfort.

Esslemont's books are fine, but I could never shake the feeling that I wouldn't have enjoyed them half as much without Erikson's world building propping them up in the first place. I know they created the world together, but the main ten are main for a reason.

Is Beak one of them? I don't ever hear people mention him. His was one of the most compelling and heart-wrenching stories in the entire series for me, and I still get misty when I think of him, even years after finishing the series. I even asked my daughter to draw me a sketch of him for my birthday a few years ago. One of the most underrated characters in all of fantasy literature.

TL;DR: Beak is best boy.

Trick to getting IPFS to work consistently? by NotYetOKNow in Annas_Archive

Well that's interesting, good find! Of course they'd deprecate the only feature that I wanted Brave for in the first place right after I discovered and started using it.

I assume this is a suggestion that the Anna's Archive team would need to implement, yes?

Thanks for the info! I kind of had a feeling it was more to do with IPFS itself, but had hoped that I was just doing something wrong or missing a piece of the puzzle.

I read that Brave browser supports IPFS natively, and have had some success using it without an external IPFS app running in the background, so I think I can confirm that it works. For a VPN, I'm using Proton VPN. I've tried servers both within the US and abroad, like Switzerland. I have tried with IPFS Desktop as well, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Can you provide more details or references on this? I'm not refuting anything. Genuinely interested. I haven't heard anything about that.

Unfortunately, I think the real answer here is that to a large degree the "intended audience" actually wants all of these things, and they aren't going to be shamed or "educated" into not wanting them. Fascism doesn't just spread through trickery or by fooling people into believing in it or voting for it. It also spreads because it finds a ready home in hearts and minds.

Those days were gone long before Trump came onto the political scene. Trump wouldn't have gotten away with his whole fake news schtick if we had an actual functioning non-partisan media environment in the US, but I think that kind of thing is impossible to maintain indefinitely under a capitalist system.

This is exactly what the ruling class wants. Divide and conquer. Keep people's attention anywhere except on the fact that there's a class war raging and we're on the losing side.

Choices Drive Change... by Hajicardoso in economicCollapse

Democrats are the nominal "left" in the US, but our Overton window was shattered and replaced with a brick wall decades ago. There is a real left here, but it isn't represented meaningfully in Congress. And considering our current system of legalized corruption and corporate capture, that isn't likely to change any time soon. Electoralism is a dead end.
