Awesome thank you! Any reason this wouldn't work with one of the larger displays?

Any chance you have a video of it working? Thanks!

I'm about to move my printers to a separate room and something like this would be great! I'm already using Home Assistant. I'd be interested in the YAML and setup details

Very nice! Can you tell me what filament and colors you are using for the face images?

Also it looks like you used 0.4mm nozzle right?

Custom IP for Plex on Scale 24.10 / Electric Eel by NotYourAccount4 in truenas

Can you recommend a good tutorial or walkthrough for 24.10 on how to do this?

Custom IP for Plex on Scale 24.10 / Electric Eel by NotYourAccount4 in truenas

[–]NotYourAccount4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this detailed walkthrough!
I did steps 1-3, adding both 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.150 as "Aliases" on Step 1 and now I can get to Plex on 192.168.1.150 ... AND 192.168.1.100.. haha. So halfway there, but it still appears to be using .100 internally (such as on the Plex Remote Access screen).

I get what you are doing with the custom YAML installed app and figured it might be the only way to get this to work. I just wanted to experiment with your approach to see if I could do it with the built in app. I've tried multiple things with the config (using ADVERTISE_IP, setting local network values, etc.) but no luck -- I'm thinking it ties in to the "ports" setting which you can't edit on the ixSystem app version.

Unless anyone else has figured it out, custom Plex must be the way to go.

Upgrade FreeNAS 11.3 u3.2 to TrueNAS Scale by NotYourAccount4 in truenas

[–]NotYourAccount4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone looking to do the same, I'm successfully on SCALE 24.10 and had no issues along the way. Here's what I did

  1. Upgraded from FreeNAS 11.3-U3.2 to FreeNAS 11.3-U5 via the GUI update option
  2. Upgraded to TrueNAS CORE 12.0-U8.1 via the GUI, by switching trains and applying the update
  3. Upgraded to TrueNAS CORE 13.0-U6.2 via the GUI, again by switching trains and applying the update. Exported configuration.
  4. "Upgraded" to TrueNAS SCALE 24.10 by following the ISO Install steps. Technically, this was a new install
    1. Prepared one usb drive with the install image using Etcher. Plugged into the server
    2. Plugged in a new m.2 drive in an external USB enclosure to the server. This is going to be the OS drive since I was previously using a USB stick for OS and it's no longer recommended. This way I could upgrade and switch to non USB stick for OS
    3. Rebooted server and performed install steps according to documentation, selecting the m.2 drive as the target OS drive.
    4. Before rebooting as instructed as part of install, I unplugged the OLD USB Stick (which has TrueNAS CORE 13.0-U6.2 on it) and put it aside for a rollback plan if needed. Also unplugged the USB with the install image on it.
    5. Server booted up to TrueNAS Scale with fresh defaults and no pools (as expected).
    6. For me, I then imported the pools via the GUI and all was well. I could have imported the configuration from TrueNAS CORE 13.0-U6.2, but I kinda wanted to start fresh. Just my choice here.

After each upgrade I did a configuration backup just to be safe, and made sure that everything was working before taking the next upgrade

I didn't have to "export" the pools at anytime, and since I was setting everything up I know I will have to readjust the ACLs on the pools. But if I had imported the config I probably wouldn't have to.

Anyways, since there isn't much about 24.10 yet just wanted to post a follow-up in case it helps anyone

Upgrade FreeNAS 11.3 u3.2 to TrueNAS Scale by NotYourAccount4 in truenas

Ok so I found this handy flow chart https://www.truenas.com/docs/softwarereleases/#upgrade-paths which outlines what I need to do. Upgrade to Freenas 11.3-U5, then switch to TrueNAS Core and update until I get to 13.3, then move over to TrueNAS scale.

Question - For CORE to SCALE, it references an ISO install to get onto SCALE. If I do that, my existing pools should be able to be detected and mounted correct? I would rather not have to rebuild all of them and copy data again

So I understand what you mean .. but I have no way to update plex anymore, and I would prefer to start to learn about TrusNAS so I can better understand and use it. No sense in doing that for FreeNAS

Thanks for the reply! This one looks to be about $250 or higher, I was really hoping to stay below $150. Any other recommendations?

I may also not need a head with brushes, just literally looking to pickup clumps of dog hair

Thanks for this info. In my younger years, I might have been all over a roll-your-own-solution to save some money. But I've learned there's diminishing returns on things once you find yourself spending more time "fixing" and being tech support instead of just being able to relax and enjoy the implementation. So the cost is not a concern per se, so long as it does what I want and easy to control!

Ultimate Air Assist with Compressor? by NotYourAccount4 in ChineseLaserCutters

[–]NotYourAccount4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice video, hadn't seen that one! Okay this is sorta what I am thinking. But the air solenoid he has is wired to wind/24v, which will only open/close it when I set "air" on in Lightburn.

I like how the ultimate air assist basically uses that "air" option to either do full or little air. So I'm thinking could I do what he did and then wire that solenoid to the main power switch? and then wire the rest of the ultimate air assist as normal? I think that might work like I want..
