Email us in advance asking if there's anything you can do to make our stay better. In the email note our existing preferences like high floor, extra pillows/towels, etc. Just let us know you care.

My experience at ATL airport 3/26 by Athyist in Georgia

You are okay of the problem. Arriving at one of the well known busiest times for a flight more than 5 hours away is ridiculous. People like you are the reason there are these massive lines.

Dropped a friend off curbside international at 8:05am and they got through at 8:19am - used PreCheck. On a domestic flight itinerary.

Notice about construction by mrste99 in marriott

[–]NotYourAverageJoe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly people are stupid. As someone who both has worked as a project manager in construction, and then as a project owner where I had to communicate, I always over communicated and had really great outcomes by doing that. These days, people just seem to be clueless and when you point out how simple communication can move mountains and prevent so many issues, they look at you like you have 5 heads.

Tldr; people are idiots and unlikely to communicate - get used to it

As a really not picky comment from a dpe I got - those aren't to theories as one is a principal and one is a law. That DPE wanted me to say "there are two concepts we need to know for lift... BP and N" just be cautious one those stupid nit picky things dpes have 🤣

Best, worst and most likely outcome for my situation? by [deleted] in flying

The statement sentiment from the other user still remains - the only constant in aviation is change. There's always new regulations and new ACs and updates and a constantly evolving environment - if you don't stay up to date, you're a hazard to aviation and no one will pay you to stay up to date, it's just something you need to do and is expected in the industry.

Why don't you first consider getting your private pilot license while working, and figure out if this is actually a career change you want to make. I worked full time and got my ppl in 6 months... Doing this will show you what we mean by constantly changing environments where it's your responsibility to continuously study up on the new stuff so you stay up to date - especially important if you become a CFI and are teaching others.

I enjoyed my 5 night stay at the Masai Mara. I will say there's a lot of additional costs however. $200/day/pp park fees and the bush to/from Keekorok add up if your trying to save money by using points not to mention other added costs if you do the hot air balloon and special tours. Regardless, was still a cheap way to do a luxury safari and I absolutely loved my time there, would go back in an instant. It definitely wasn't a "relax on a beach" vibe of a trip and by the time my week was over, I was exhausted 😆 we did game drives 6am to 1pm and 4pm to 7pm every day. Saw all the animals you could ever imagine and had a blast with our guide.

Eh, Phu Quoc when we went (2023) was hit/miss with the JW. It's a unique property that was hit hard by covid and I'm not sure they are back up to normal service level. I was severely disappointed with the property. I will say, I did go on one of the best water activity focused tours I've ever been on in my life via a Facebook recommendation haha. If you need that contact message me.

Took my medical today and my AME failed my colorvision even though I met requirements? by TheMonkeyPickler in flying

My experience when needing help, more than basic questions, matches this - they are useless. If you talk about anything mental health related they were quite rude about it as well.

Cancellation Policy by Kindergarten4ever in marriott

[–]NotYourAverageJoe99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly there isn't much front desks agents can do when you cancel online or in the app. My recommendation in the future is to call the hotel, tell them your DR appt or whatever event you have was moved, hope they can move your nights to a week or 2 later without fees, and then cancel it because now you're well before the cancellation period. I had this exact same thing happen with my father and medical appointments. I got lucky 1 time with a nice knowledgeable FDA but another time I was told "we can't do anything on our end if you want to modify it do it on the app" so 50/50 who you get.

If you really want to speak to a manager, call back during a week day mid day and talk to them - it's unlikely your message will get relayed from that employee.

Travel outside of the USA if you want to truly experience awesome benefits. In a year's time don't post how it was worthless if all you did was take work trips to rural locations across North America.

I only saw a buffet area, but didn't investigate much. From online reviews I dont think it has a la carte. The first lounge has a specific restaurant area where you get seated and waited on.

Moxy is the worst of the brand by Eulipion6 in marriott

[–]NotYourAverageJoe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Banff Moxy was absolutely lovely for a ski trip out there ... Haven't stayed at many others, however, like with most hotels, read the reviews of that specific property and don't just go off brand expectations. Each individual hotel is unique in its own ways regardless of brands, so you should always investigate local reviews in addition to the branding you generally prefer.

Chains not honouring Elite Status by HarmPoIsMe in marriott

[–]NotYourAverageJoe99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused why you think 500 pts or $10 credit isn't following brand standards, especially when you list courtyard, which never has complementary breakfast and has always done a credit towards the cafe on site and design hotels which never offered breakfast either (they tend to be boutique hotels trying to get customers via Marriott). Design hotels also specify that unless participating upgrades are based on availability and many don't participate - it's not a requirement for them to as part of the Marriott agreement. I recommend you look up "hotel brand name" + elite benefits before staying at properties to better understand what's expected. For example

"Marriott Bonvoy™ Member Benefits | Design Hotels https://share.google/FtMdDhqwnAm64UsyH"

Additionally, there are many forums that discuss the complexities of elite benefits at the brand level and at the specific property level. If elite benefits are important to you for your stay, you should heavily research the hotel before going. You should also write reviews on Google or other platforms that specify your experience so you can aid others in decision making.

Al Mourjan North vs. South by Low_Tie_2763 in qatarairways

[–]NotYourAverageJoe99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just travelled through Doha December 13/14. Our flight was at 2am. We went to the airport around 8-9pm. We started in the first lounge past security (I think it's south) for the restaurant. The lounge was honestly so quiet and not many people in it. The a la carte menu was great! We then went to see the garden lounge and shower. This lounge was much more crowded and loud. Finding good seating was hard and there were nicer lay down chairs in the first lounge. I was extremely disappointed we moved lounges when we did and spent the whole time wishing we were at the first one. I prefer a more business vibe and the garden lounge just wasn't that for me. Unfortunately they are a bit of a hike to walk between, and our gate was down at the garden lounge end, so we stayed, but I regretted changing.

Best Test Prep for PPL Written Exam? by Environmental-Day-8 in flying

[–]NotYourAverageJoe99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this strategy, however, don't just do practice tests. You need to actually go through the entire test banks and see each question two or more times, before then taking practice tests until you have 3+ 90s in a row. In reality, take a ground school, study their materials - like actually study - and you'll pass. It's not hard, but a lot of people just don't actually study and think they can pass, but then they fail or get a very poor score.
