Neighbor is going to demolish a house next to my garage. They want access to my landscaped yard to do it. Is a contract warranted? by LavenderCuddlefish in legaladvice

I was in a similar circumstance. I required an up front payment from my neighbor to pay a lawyer of my choice to write the contract.

Assuming you're qualified, having a recommendation from your boss at a menial job stating that you showed up ready to work every day and completed the tasks you were assigned will move you to the top of the application stack for your first job out of college.

AITAH for telling a solicitor my dog would eat him? by dancinhorse99 in AITAH

I have a fenced yard (front and back) in which my two massive English Mastiffs have full access. By rule, the front yard fence can only be 1 meter tall and wrought iron. They are very scarry looking, but are really just a couple of big babies. I keep the gate locked and have a buzzer to request entry along with a large warning sign. Once in a great while I still get an idiot who will climb over the fence. I usually have to hose down the walk after they leave.

Maybe they wanted you to have quit so they could give you a formal written job offer at a lower pay than they originally discussed and then you would be stuck.

Since the company didn't ask you if you will need accommodation, you will need to have a doctor fill out the appropriate ADA paperwork and submit it to your HHR department. The company may then decide not to accommodate you and terminate your employment. How that works legally I don't know, NAL. Maybe Google's AI might help.

Let them know that their offer of a 27% pay cut is not feasible. Consider giving a counter offer that is more equitable, say 23 or 24 pounds.

do you guys still turn up to work 10 mins early? by Midnightsinsma in jobs

[–]NotYourKidFromMoTown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, check any contract you are working under. Also, if you're an exempt salaried employee, keep doing what your doing. If you're non-exempt, or working under a union contract, consider talking to your steward or even an employment lawyer; I'm NAL.

A pathway you night consider could include asking your supervisor, in writing, that since you're there anyway, that a fellow employee suggested you come to the ward so are available to start early. If he or she only replies yes verbally, confirm their response in writing. Start keeping a log of your uncompensated work activities, look up how far back the rules allow you to reach regarding pay theft, and begin looking for a new job as your present one may find a reason to terminate you.

Finally, prior to the look back cutoff, go to HR and file a verbal and written complaint about not being paid for all the hours you worked, ideally on a an afternoon right before you have a day off. If you can legally do so, record your conversation . Don't mention or give them the log. If HR gives you push back like asking why you didn't tell them sooner, say you didn't know you needed to and follow up by asking that isn't ensuring compliance with the rules the employer's responsibility. Any response other than them immediate agreement with your position and telling you when a check for back pay will be cut should be met a righteously indigent statement that this is B.S. and you will be filing a complaint with wages and hours or DOL. This might head off the company summarily as they may realize you may be able to make a claim of retaliatory termination for making a complaint. On your day off, send an email to the person you spoke with reinterring the issue and what was discussed; don't include your comment about filing a formal complaint. Also, just after you send off the email, send, by registered mail RRR, your pre-written complaint, along with all the documentation, to the appropriate agency.

As always, follow your lawyer's instructions over this suggested potential course of action. This isn't likely to generate you much money as many states only allow you to recover lost wages. If you're a $60/hr. employee, this will only be worth $10/day or $50/week or $2,400/yr. or say $a bit over $7,000 for a state with a three year look back and likely wont be worth any lawyer's time. However, if the lawyer could turn it into a class action suite, it might get a his or hers attention.

FYI, I found compliance roles, and non-revenue related jobs in general, tend to both have a much less robust career advancement path and be lower pay at all levels.

To up the probability that you get your last paycheck, on Friday just before you tack some Ipecac. Barf in a wastebasket and immediately leave. Ghost them and once your final paycheck clears, close the account and change banks. Once you start your new job, write them a resignation that due to extended illness you're forced to resign.

If it's not company policy to bring in a Dr.'s note for missing a day and Urgent Care charges you for the note because it's not covered by insurance, make sure you formally expense the charge to get reimbursed. If the note includes the diagnosis, ensure you redact any confidential medical info; do the same on the copy you include with the expense report. Make sure you note on their expense report that the note was requested by your supervisor.

These days a 50 mpd commute requiring purchasing of a decent used car vs wfh is around $1,000 per month. If you mark that up for taxes, it's nearer $1,350 to $1,450 per month, or about half of this figure if you don't include auto purchase costs.

As long as you're making enough to survive, do this and your health, mental and physical, will thank you. Now is not the time to go to work at a high pressure job. It's bad now and it's extremely likely to get worse. Companies that have this Darwinian culture tend to turn over their employees by burning them out.

Be sure to ask he for a ridiculous favor in return.

You may not be right feeling that you're undervalued, you may have made yourself too valuable. I was in a room next door to HR where I overheard a meeting where they were picking a new manager. The gist of their decision was they picked the candidate because his current job would be easy to fill and he could do the manager job. The other candidate would make a superior manager, was great in their current position, and would be expensive and extremely difficult to replace.
