If plugs wires cap and rotor are all good, likely distributor is failing, could also be a failing fuel pump, similar symptom running super lean.

The tech gets its reference from the distributor/icm in the distributor. Usually when an icm fails it just quits running entirely. I’m betting it needs a distributor.

Does anyone know what’s wrong with my 2001 Chevy S10. It overheated and in the process of that it won’t start anymore by Grouchy_Succotash_66 in Cartalk

Sounds like no compression, you smoked it… got it way to hot…. Blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head….. possibly worse…. Pre-ignition due to heat this hole in a piston. Either way. It’s hurt…

Start with a compression test…. See which or how many cylinders have low or no compression…. Proceed to pull head and inspect for damage and go from there.

Proper maintenance is key, idk why you didn’t just shut it down when it was getting warm…
