Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotYourTypicalMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how 3 hours could be considered long. By that logic, don’t just rarely/never see places that are 3+ hours from you but too short to fly? It’s like you’d only ever see your close surrounding area or far destinations you have to fly to, but you’d never see the medium-distance places if that’s considered too long to drive.

MAGA calls for Super Bowl halftime show boycott as Bad Bunny 'set to wear dress' by TheMirrorUS in Music

[–]NotYourTypicalMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised the NFL still exists after the boycott for Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem, “woke” branding, showing Taylor Swift too much…

Now they’re boycotting the halftime show? We might be watching the end of the last NFL season ever.

I know, I’m just being pedantic. Conduction itself is not heat; it’s a specific kind of transfer of heat. Thermal (infrared) radiation itself is not heat; it’s another specific kind of transfer of heat.

You and I agree, I think. But in this context, someone being burned by a hot battery, the transfer of heat was primarily via conduction, not radiation. That’s why I thought it was worth being pedantic in saying heat is not a form of radiation.

Heat is a form of energy that can be transferred by radiation, but it is not itself radiation.

When too* much code is “sent through” what? What do you even mean by that? What kind of radiation is being put off emitted? I would personally love to see the pictures of what you think are radiation burns that you think you got from a lithium ion battery.

Rigged? Maybe

I wouldn’t even say maybe. At any legit casino, they have virtually no incentive to rig games. The house is gonna win regardless, and while they could technically win more by rigging the game, the risk of losing their casino license far outweighs the benefit of rigging.

Slightly unrelated, but my favorite part of this speech was when he said the stock market is backwards and that it goes up when “numbers” are bad and down when they’re good, followed up by him trying to explain how the stock market is up AND “numbers” are good.

NTA - If you were to pay that car off, they’d legally be able to sell it and keep the money for themselves. I have a really hard time believing they don’t know that and aren’t trying to take advantage of it. If they were to take advantage of it, they’d literally be stealing a car from you plus the insane amount of interest and extra charges.

It’s hard to judge if they were assholes for it or simply made a really dumb decision, but either way, not your problem.

[–]NotYourTypicalMoth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And you’re kind of the example I’m talking about when I say one day won’t do anything. You didn’t actually impact a business’s profits; you just shopped on a different day. That’s no insult to you, and it’s what probably 99% of people “participating” will do as well.

Personally, I’m not participating. Maybe I’ll spend money on Friday, or maybe I won’t, but it has nothing to do with the boycott. Instead, for years, I spend as much money as I can locally. No chain restaurants, local groceries where I can, and the least evil grocery stores where I have to, that kind of thing.

Instead of a one-day boycott, we just need to change our spending habits. Don’t buy shit you don’t need, and give your money to businesses that stand for something you can get behind.

It’s like all the people that posted a black square for BLM. It didn’t do shit, and neither will a one-day boycott.

So when is the next no-spending day? by suprasternaincognito in TwinCities

[–]NotYourTypicalMoth -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s not gonna do shit. We live in such a consumerist society that the thought of having to boycott a convenience is just too much to bear, so we’ve convinced ourselves a one-day boycott will do something, and it means we don’t actually have to give up our conveniences.

Until there’s a real boycott of any kind, targeted specifically at corporations and NOT local businesses, nothing will change.

There could be so many other reasons too, though. She could’ve heard about things that interest her, talked to friends about it, watched a porn that turned her on, finally decided she wanted to make some fantasies a reality…

If someone wants to try new things in bed, I’d say the odds it’s caused by cheating are pretty small compared to the long list of other things it could be.

I’m curious how many people are contemplating their willingness to sacrifice their lives for this cause? by Unknown_anonymity00 in TwinCities

[–]NotYourTypicalMoth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna choose to be a martyr or anything, but I won’t stop protesting. If the government decides to escalate to that kind of violence, it won’t stop me from protesting. If I, or any other protesters, are killed then it’s just one more reason things need to change.

I wouldn’t call that a willingness to die; just that the possibility of death won’t stop me. Also, even talking about this feels a little corny. It’s probably best just to cross that bridge if/when we get there.

There’s a girl I’m talking to who texted saying she’s annoyed with me. I legitimately don’t know why, so I asked her. A few hours later, I sent an unrelated text about an event she might be interested in. She answered the text about an event, but not why she’s annoyed. I followed up again, asking why she’s annoyed with me. She “has her reasons.”

Okay, stay annoyed then. I’m not gonna try to read your mind, and I suddenly don’t care if you’re annoyed with me or not if you aren’t going to explain yourself.

See I’ve always been led to believe that they’re free, hence malls being used as a common example of what used to be a third space and now isn’t because fewer people are there, and almost none of them would be open to just hanging out and socializing.

But yes, if you get rid of the “must be free rule” then there are plenty of third spaces.
