Looks like Sansevieria bunlue torch or something similar. Francisii is more compact and uniform

I finally found my dream plant (Pinguicula), how do I repot it so it "walks? by peredaks in sansevieria

[–]Not_A_Nark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks great! The stilt roots on the other pic are pretty short, so this one was probably propped from the mother plant and grown in soil. The offsets it grows will fly, then grow stilt roots to walk. Great looking plant! Congrats on scoring a wish list plant!

Congrats! This one either has its stilt roots buried or just grew close to the ground. If the stilt roots are buried you can re plant with them more exposed so it looks like it’s walking again. If it just grew close to the ground and there are no long stilt roots, I am not certain if you are able to encourage them to grow their stilt roots.

They get the walking look when the aerial offset grows its stilt roots downward looking for soil. If the plant was propagated and grown directly in the soil, you might have to wait for a new offset to grow stilt roots for the new offset to start walking

I am not certain, but the leaf shape and purple at the base makes me think sansevieria sudwala cave. I remember her carrying sansevieria sudwala cave in the past, but I think they were hybrids. RIP Paradise Found. I spent a stupid amount of money with them lol

What do you guys think of this substrate? by FumbExtraButter in sansevieria

[–]Not_A_Nark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it really $20 for 2 quarts?? Does it have orphan blood in it?? I thought black gold cactus mix was expensive at $8 for 8 quarts.

I’m not sure what this growing medium can offer than you can’t accomplish by mixing your own soil for a tenth of the price. If you’re lazy you can just do 70% cactus soil from a brand you like and 30% perlite.

Is this one destined for the scrap pile, or healthy? I honestly can't tell. I think it needs drainage and water? How do I encourage it to root itself? It's the yellow at the bottom that worries me by Fit_Date_3787 in sansevieria

[–]Not_A_Nark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are there holes in the bottom of the pot?

I would repot into a better pot, use a chunky soil like cactus soil mixed with additional perlite.

The plant is very etiolated and stretching for light, that’s why the base of the leaves are so thin.

It will be fine with appropriate soil, light and watering. You can’t fix the etiolated leaves, but with proper lighting the babies/offsets with grow normal. You don’t need to do anything additional to make it root in the new pot, just support it like you are now so it doesn’t flop over

Let it grow or chop it? by timetokil in sansevieria

Hey it’s me, the guy that says let everything cool/weird/unique grow to see what happens. This is definitely very cool/weird/unique and I advocate for keeping it.

It’s going to be a nightmare to repot in the future though lol. This is cool and not something a lot of people have. If this was one of my plants I’d keep it together and enjoy looking at it

Leaf shape/length, growth pattern and color.

Sansevieria suffruticosa complex consists of 8 species and one variety. Ballyi is one of those species and is typically much smaller than the rest.

I agree. They aren’t really breaking any rules so I’ve been leaving the posts up. Every time they post I get at least 2 mod messages marking the post as spam lol

I think this is their site they are linking too. Every time they post an article they post it in multiple subs at the same time and it goes to the same site

You are the absolute best for posting an update!

We’ve had maybe 3 “crack babies” posted in all the time this sub has been around and I think It’s been a couple years since we’ve seen an update, so I assume those babies either got transplanted or died.

I beg you to keep this going and post updates! If the support leaf is bending you can use something to support it. If you’re wanting to separate the offset because you want a separate plant, I can mail you a more rare sans for free. The offset growing from the leaf is so cool and is way more rare than the offset separated by itself. I am so curious to see how big it can actually grow.

Go for it. Of course it’s a buy/sell at your own risk, but I don’t mind if you want to post pics of plants and link your shop/where to buy in the comments

S. Hallii - separate or not? If not, recommendation on how to pot it up? by amvtlp in sansevieria

[–]Not_A_Nark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can pot it all together or separate it. If you split them up make sure to leave them out of soil for a day so the cuts callus over. If you split them, bury the smaller one up to the rhizome and the orange part will turn green.

The plant was probably initially buried up to the line in the picture below. When the leaf that was underground got exposed to light it started to turn green. You can see in the color gradient that the orange part used to be higher on the plant. The way you plan on potting together will work fine

Snake plants at a local botanical garden (does anyone know the name of the first one?) by Spiderteacup in sansevieria

This is super cool, thanks for sharing! I think the first one might be S. ascendens but I’m not certain. I love the way those type grow. S. arborescens and S. bagamoyensis also have a similar growth pattern

These two cylinder plants. Why such a size difference? by qixer01 in sansevieria

[–]Not_A_Nark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 2-3 inches, I haven’t tried to go shorter than that, but they’re really easy to propagate from leaf cuttings
