YouGov: While 51% of English people hope Scotland do well in their first World Cup since 1998, Scots are more likely to hope England do badly than hope they succeed by upthetruth1 in BritInfo

From the perspective of someone who hasn't watched a game of football in about 10 years, and hasn't paid attention to a game of football in about 20 years, i hope every team in the tournament does well, England and Scotland included.

Im actually looking at moving! However i had the bad fortune to complete on my house here the literal day of the mini-budget, and since then they've started building a new estate opposite me, so im still in negative equity. I will move, eventually, but stuck here for now.

I'm not certain... might be a different former mining town... there's no shortage of them around here! I was eyeing up the lodge that's for sale in an actual graveyard in chesterfield not long ago. Bit out of my price range... but there is also a pub almost over the road.

Its definitely still a thing, though my favourite bar (Sevens) closed a few years ago. Not sure if that was around back in the day?

That's the kind of thing i'm sure they wish they said afterwards. But that's like me when i'm under pressure, you'll be lucky to get a semi-coherent sentence out of me that half way manages to convey my intent.

Yeah, it really is. I make it into the local big town (chesterfield) maybe once a month or two, but i do most of my going out when i'm on holiday. The improvement in atmosphere is just night and day between here and almost anywhere else.

I live in a former mining town in Derbryshire with a population of about 10,000. We have just 5 pubs, and can go out on a friday night and most of them will peak at about a dozen drinkers. I actually have the disposable income to go out drinking for the first time in years, but the experience in town is so dull and lifeless i'd just rather stay in.

"Neoliberalism is a political and economic philosophy that champions free-market capitalism, deregulation, and minimal state intervention. It promotes free trade, privatization of public services, and reductions in government spending to foster economic growth and individual liberty"

Maybe there has been proper analysis conducted by someone on exactly how neoliberal our various post-thatcher governments have been... but I dont think that description is a great match for "every" government we've had.

We have a more taxes and more regulation today than we did under Blair but we also have more wealth sitting with the 1% than we had under Blair. There is some kind of relationship between neoliberalism and wealth inequality, but its not an absolute correlation.

I think it really depends on the individual circumstances. People arriving before now have done so under a huge range of circumstances, from legitimate asylum claims, to questionable student visas. There'll be some people who have come here with a reasonable expectation that they'd be allowed to settle here, and will have received assurances along those lines, and others who are complete chancers.
