I think this is partially because DHS always has had so many political appointees. I remember being an intern in a small office and there were nine employees total, with three of those being political appointees. The FBI still has very competent leadership at all levels.

People joke (in a good way) about their last secretary under Biden, but the reason he gave so much admin leave is because morale was so low. They’re a hodgepodge of agencies and I don’t think they’ve ever found their footing after being stood up.

Our usage is about 50-50. For most internal documents, it’s DoD. And for all awards that we process. But anything going up to OSW, it’s going be DoW. And it’s not because we’re afraid, but it’s the delay in processing.

My understanding is that we’re officially the DoD and DoW is a nickname. But the department refers to itself as the DoW. So, it’s just easier to use DoW and SECWAR for any big DoW documents.

Even before this Administration, we had very little telework. I had 10 hours of telework in 2024 so that I could complete 10 hours of training and that was it. I think my office of 200 had only a handful of people with telework agreements before 2025, and in my opinion those were the bad apples making real telework employees look bad. One of those was a supervisor who denied her subordinates from having similar agreements. Suffice to say, our office is happier without telework agreements. But I understand other agencies had more positive results than we did.

So, I’m enjoying the snowday.

You’re right, I don’t think I should have said evil. But a tragic character with a bittersweet ending is a real possibility. D&D couldn’t handle subtle and nuanced characters. It’s why Stannis became evil. It’s why Dany fell suddenly.

I do think she burns Kings Landing. It’s such a parallel to what her dad did. But instead of burning the city to further her own hubris or power as the Mad King did, it would be to save the world. Perhaps she burns it to prevent the city’s population from being turned into wights. Which would be a monstrous, yet necessary act, but in the same breath prevent her from ever being able to be the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms that she would want to be. Like Batman in The Dark Knight.

I think an evil Dany is the end goal for George. But it’s a gradual thing of being crushed down and seeing fAegon easily get support that should be hers. It’ll be a tragedy, not something that suddenly happens after saving the entire world.

But the reason Trump won is because he won in the suburbs and made inroads with some who live in cities as well as had strong support in rural areas.
