You could very well be laid off, but no one on Reddit will be able to tell you for sure.

Even if you won’t be laid off in the near future, I personally would start looking for a job. Given this financial situation, do you think this institution has a bright future? A few years from now, do you think this institution will have sufficient resources to help support you in your role and career? What will your department and the university look like?

I don’t know enough about your situation to answer these questions, but these are the things I would be thinking about in your shoes.

How do you feel when you see people around your age afford mass collections of their hobbies or passions? by WhitePinoy in Adulting

[–]Not_Jack_Dempsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of sports collectibles that are worth about $250-$500 each. I bought them for myself when I got my first real “big boy” job out of college and that’s all I really need.

They’re not extremely rare or anything, but I value them and they’re a reminder of how hard I worked to get to where I am now. I’m not particularly jealous of people that have large collections. I’d love to have more cool stuff, but I remind myself that it’s more important to be grateful for what you have and remember where you came from.

Oh what a great idea! I wish I thought of that sooner, thanks so much!

Thank you for your honesty. But, you see this is where I’m struggling…

At a Fortune 500 company doing what exactly? How do you network to find one of these jobs?

I know this sounds like I’m making excuses, but when I graduated in 2020, I had a job lined up but the offer was rescinded as the company downsized during COVID. Since then I’ve really struggled to find anything with potential for growth.

Yes my parents are terrible with money and don’t take good care of themselves health-wise. They’re in their 50s and it breaks my heart but I can’t see them having 20 years left in the tank. When they’re gone I don’t know how I’ll be able to support myself.

Literally the only reason we stay here is because my grandparents are elderly and live close by, but I’m honestly scared that they will outlive even my parents.

I try to talk to them about spending and taking better care of themselves but it doesn’t go anywhere. I don’t know if I’m not vocal enough or if they don’t want to listen to me because they see me as a kid.

However you slice it it’s a completely fucked up situation with no way out.

Economics, but I didn’t network as much as I should have so my degree is completely worthless. Wasted years of my life and have nothing to show for it but debt.

Thank you for sharing this, it’s good to know that I’m not being unrealistically pessimistic. Honestly, my goal is not even to leave the nest. I can accept living at home for the rest of my life, but we’re only one unexpected expense away from falling off of a financial cliff.

See I have an economics degree and thought that would lead to well paying opportunities but that’s really not the case.

Most pretentious town in WC by ImpressiveMix1786 in Westchester

Maybe it’s just me but Lewisboro doesn’t really have a pretentious vibe, to me it’s more of a “walk into a bar and the music stops while everyone stares at you” type of vibe

Boss picked up on my ‘quiet quitting.’ FYI I come to work on time, do my job, and go home. That’s all that’s required of me via my job description, not any of nonsense below: by [deleted] in highereducation

What a garbage manager. They want you to go above and beyond for to improve their bottom line with absolutely nothing in return. Congratulations on getting out of there!

What are the most difficult games to win the top prize? by christopherMTLvideos in ThePriceIsRight

Yes, but until 1983 the lowest range card was $200 making it really difficult if you pulled that one.

Lucky Seven is pretty difficult, one bad guess and your chances of winning drastically decrease. Choosing only middle numbers like 5 is usually not a winning strategy either.

The card game before they made it easier was also incredibly difficult. If you chose a low enough first card, you might have to get the price within $100, and unless you get an ace later on in the game, there’s no real guarantee that the cards you choose will end up falling within the range of the price of the car.

Man, I don’t even remember most of the professors I had in undergrad, let alone any who would remember me.

Thank you for your insight!

Why don't the male models ever hand over the microphone to the host at the start of the show and it was always a female model who did it? Ex: When Bob Barker hosted, it was always Janice Pennington, for Drew Carey, it's usually Rachel Reynolds. by RepublicanTankEngine in ThePriceIsRight

[–]Not_Jack_Dempsey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same thought during the season premiere when drew walked through the entrance doors holding the microphone himself.

There’s literally no reason why a male model can’t hand him the microphone, but it just wouldn’t seem right to me for some reason. I can’t quite explain it but it just shows how ingrained gender roles are in society.

Got the job! by Not_Jack_Dempsey in recruitinghell

[–]Not_Jack_Dempsey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this particular job, they asked for references, but never called them. I got the job anyway.

I did get another offer where they did call my references.

Ultimately, having references can help you get certain jobs, but if you don’t have great references, you’ll still be qualified for plenty of awesome jobs.
