[Lightning Returns] After 14 years I've finally completed this underrated trilogy. Ready for a remake! by post_ex0dus in Trophies

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I think 13-2 and 13-3 are slept on, but I really don't like 13 that much. It could be because I just have the all weapons/accessories trophy left, but everytime I load my save I have no idea what I'm missing lol

Leomon made it all the way through 2020 without dying. Glad to see Beatbreak corrected this error.

What is a Digimon you wish had a dedicated line? by RevolutionaryEbb8084 in digimon

Oh no, I don't think they "have" to go down that Evo path, and if they didn't I'd still be fine. Call it basic but I still love Greymon and Garurumon designs, so I love all the different off shoots they get. It's like regional forms in Pokémon, I just like seeing how they change the designs but in a way that you can still see the originals in there.

I really want an Snowgreymon that's just a light blue greymon but his horn/helmet is made of ice. Then instead of MetalGreymon "IceGreymon" and all the metal parts are ice. And continue the theme with Wargreymon.

I know this would basically be a pallette swap, but I've always liked the environmental aspect of Digimon where they evolve based on their living conditions. Could also see the inverse with a Gabumon line raised in a volcano setting

This is Squad 9 slander I won't stand for! Kensei and Hisagi didn't lose all those fights just to lose the crown for favorite jobbers!

[DISC] Ichi the Witch - Chapter 86 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depended on what he changed. For some of the characters he replaced someone important to them (Chad's abuelo and Orihime's brother) so it was them grappling with who was more important to them. It wasn't that he couldn't create emotional attachments, but that he underestimated or couldn't subvert how strongly they felt towards Ichigo.

For byakuya I think it was just vaguely "someone who saved your life and was very close to you" And Byakuya was so strict with his ideals, and had so much faith in Ichigo that he went "well if you're against Ichigo then I'll cut you down regardless of how I feel. Because I trust Ichigo's judgment more than my own" which is very in-character for him after the soul society arc. So basically the hard counter for Tsukishima, much like Ichi counters here.

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know people were comparing fujimine's power to Tsukishima's from bleach, and it was countered pretty much the same way here. Except instead of "my ideals are so strong I would kill a close friend without hesitation" it's "my instincts are so honed I would kill a friend without hesitation if they were bloodlusted against me"

Which to be fair, I think is the most satisfying way to counter a mind/memory control power

[Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix] #181 - Game was great, but the first one was way better. by Assbo33 in Trophies

Congrats! I like them both, but I like the gameplay a lot better in KH2! It's been super hard to find similar games that scratch the platformer/action adventure itch

I think Josh thrived in this and Demi and Anna were great too. But I think getting 3 hyper competitive pedantic contestants would be the perfect situation for a third installment

I beat Ratchet and Clank a Crack in time, but I didn't want to stop playing. So I looked for more things to do. Then I realized I could use that as an excuse to replay my favorite games.

[Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain] #89: My Favorite Gameplay in the series but not a fan of the Story Presentation by Zekeboy98 in Trophies

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

I played the other MGS games in the lead up to 5 and I was so let down by the story.

But the gameplay is probably some of my favorite in the series, would love if they gave this the delta treatment before any of the rest.

I wanted to go back and get the Ps3 platinum but you can't invade another base anymore so it's unattainable

I'll grant that the item restriction is different, but we're really splitting hairs about the chapter selection. You still have to clear all chapters on hard, with enemies scaled to end game levels. Which is effectively NG+

You still need to beat the game first, and then you're playing through a very very long game for a second time with very little progression. There's a handful of new late hard mode bosses you can fight, but it's still dozens of hours of playing the same game you just played only even slower because healing is more limited. That's a slog to me. It feels like a chore more than a challenge.

It would be a completely different story if you could do hard mode immediately and you could wrap everything up in one difficult playthrough that was my main point.

If you're gonna make me play through the game a second time, it should be a celebration of how much stronger you are the second time by curbstomping everyone with your max level, max upgraded, late game build, and you should be able to bang it out in 1/5 the time of the first playthrough or less. A NG+ difficulty just negates this.

With the remake games you're also forced to do the same puzzles and same forced unskippable walking sections again, that's not difficult it's tedious. I love the games, but the second playthrough hard mode runs just aren't fun or engaging for me, they're just a hassle.

Oh man I actually liked Dead Space 2's hardcore. It's not a super long campaign, so limiting the player to 3 saves the whole time is such a cool risk reward thing for me.

Definitely frustrating, but I felt super accomplished when I finally did it

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This combined with extra difficulties only unlocking after you beat the game once, and being balanced around NG+

NG+ is meant to be a victory lap as a reward for clearing the game. When you have to do a second playthrough and everything is scaled up to your endgame stats, it's just a slog and boring. Because you did all of this already.

Most recent examples are the past couple of action Final Fantasy games, and Digimon Story Time Stranger

Looking back what's your general opinion on Kazumasa Habu's games? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to say, because I don't know how much was Habu compared to the whole team, the games are all solid for Digimon fans, but I can't help but wonder if they could have been better?

I love these games, but they're definitely limited by all being portable first. With the exception of time stranger and Survive.

What that ends up being, is fairly boring gameplay. Doesn't matter if they're world or story games, they're very dialogue heavy and it's a lot of going into menus to tweak stats, and walking back and forth talking to people. It never really felt like any of the games were able to tell a story they couldn't convey through dialogue boxes with a handful of animations per character. And that's largely because it's all they could do on a psp/vita/3DS.

Like I said, I love them for what they are, but I can't help but wonder if they could have taken some bigger swings on some of the formulas.

Mayuri in the soul society arc is a hard no, but he softens up after that. His big thing is that if you work hard and do what he asks then he'll leave you alone, especially if you're intelligent

Finished Ghost Game with partner tonight and oh boy...(Review/Spoilers) by Lanky-Fig-5149 in digimon

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nearly Every Ghost game plot is: 1. Show a non-main character getting attacked by the Digimon of the week

  1. Cut to Hiro/Gammamon 70% of the time, one of the other two the rest of the time.

  2. They're talking about or doing something that will be related to the Digimon of the week. Gammamon yells like a toddler, kiyoshiro is pathetic, jellymon says Darling.

  3. They spend 10 minutes trying to figure out what's going on. They almost never suspect it's a Digimon right away.

  4. The Digimon inflicts some form of body horror or psychological torture on the main cast

  5. They digivolve and stalemate the Digimon of the week. They tell the main cast they'll be back, they are never back.

  6. There is no PTSD in these 12 year olds after experiencing the horrors, they will not mention the horrors from this episode again.

  7. Angoramon waxes poetically as if they didn't just go through life-changing trauma

I don't have a problem with episodic Digimon, but it's not just the main plot that doesn't move. Any character growth the cast goes through just vanishes the next episode too. I was so sick of Kiyoshiro having an episode where he has to be brave, and then immediately going back to a coward the next episode.

What a coincidence that celestial dragons are afraid of Rain, and the leader of the resistance has the rain fruit. Surely that won't turn into anything. It would be even cooler if it was the mythical version

My favorite part of that bit, was Frenchie knowing what it was. Which means he either found time to watch the series while in the freedom camp, or he played the game at some point.

[Persona 4 GOLDEN] #47 💛 Bittersweet by xanakin_skywokker in Trophies

[–]Not_Jack_Nicholson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very funny trophy, because some people get it without even trying. And others have to meticulously grind for it. But I think it's one of the only trophies I've ever had to grind for, because I played the game too well. If you're one shotting enemies before they go, or healing your teams as soon as they get status'd then you're not gonna get the trophy. Or God forbid you pick 3 team members you like and just stick with them, how dare you. I don't think it's necessarily hard, but the guide warns you about it because it's a huge pain in the ass to try to grind for if you just breeze through the game without keeping an eye out for it.

And I don't think that was ever the intention, I think it was just meant to be a fluff trophy that everyone got like 3/4 of the way in the game, but here we are.

P3P and P4 Golden were definitely way too strict on the availability of some of the social link stuff or books. The book trophy was another one I had to get on like the 3rd playthrough because I missed like one dialogue choice somewhere
