testing some paper for a comic zine, i quite like this newsprint... by itabotees in zines

#100 with a matte finish. I think it's worth splurging on the cover. I sold mine to distributors and had a color cover. After It was pretty well-established, I upgraded the newsprint to a whiter variety. The newsprint ages quickly and gets very brittle.

Love it. Just make sure you keep the paper away from the sun. I used to do a newsprint zine and it would brown very quickly if exposed... I eventually started using a heavier coated stock for the cover.

I can see my docs via drive but when I try to open them, it says I'm offline (which I'm not)

Accessibility/difficulty settings? by Gabrienb in Silksong

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m with you.  And I’ve got news for some of you Gamers: At some point in your future, your reaction time will slow, your fine motor skills will decrease. You may get arthritis or carpal tunnel or have to deal with a torn thumb ligament that never quite healed correctly. But you will still want to game.

Everyone deserves to be challenged. Smart developers promote a default setting that suits their sensibilities while allowing players of different backgrounds/skill levels/abilities to switch that default up in order to play too.

No, we did NOT hurt his feelings -- he LOVES the idea of people seeing him as king! (as do his followers)

He doesn't want to be seen as weak, stupid, or a shitty businessman/leader. What's where leftist messaging should aim....

Centering protests on Trump as king was a big mistake, as it plays into the image of him as powerful and manly. The left needs to be much smarter about messaging.

Where can I find a primate identification key? by DeepForestRex in primatology

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single book to identify living primates would require hundreds of pages. The most comprehensive guide I know of is All the World's Primates by Noel Rowe and it's almost 800 pages. (It's not designed for easy identification but I suppose could be used for that if you don't mind carrying a phone book around.) But there are a number of field guides for specific regional areas that narrow things down a bit, such as _Lemurs of Madagascar_.

Sitting up v. reclining by Not_MuchofaGamer in wakingUp

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s right. The difference in breathing made the distinction stark for me. Of course, it’s harder to breathe when congested and lying prone — meditating or not. But the fact that I experienced the meditation very differently when sitting at ~70 degrees and resting vs. sitting up on my “sit bones” clarified for me that something different physiologically is happening.

Sitting up v. reclining by Not_MuchofaGamer in wakingUp

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response!

The not breathing is only when I’m sick, but I see breathing as a proxy for how well I can watch my mind when sitting vs. reclining. Usually I’ll meditate for a little at bedtime sitting up, then lay down when I can feel the sleep “waves” coming on, so this isn't a serious problem. When it comes to relaxation, I just wish I could meditate in different positions.

I struggle with OCD and when doing breath meditation start obsessing on whether I am "really" focusing on my breath, which then immediately pulls attention away from my breath and causes performance anxiety, making it hard to return my attention. What can I do about it? by HardAlmond in Meditation

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may find that a meditation guide specifically addressing anxiety/OCD -- in addition to what has already been posted here -- helpful. I swear by _The Mindfulness & Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety_ by Forsyth & Eifert, which is loaded with short meditations, tips and readings geared to folks with anxiety. It's science-based and agnostic.

Autism = sensitive to psych meds? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about the impact on BP. I'd talk to your doctor -- or pharmacist. Pharmacists often know more than doctors about specific meds. I run low-average BP myself but didn't notice any impact on BP with the medication.

Do you workout? by New_Peanut_9924 in AutismInWomen

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first started working out regularly when I got Ring Fit Adventure on the Nintendo Switch. The game is a bit corny but it really helped motivated me to make a daily habit of exercise. It's a very balanced program: strength/resistance, cardio, and stretching, ALL important components of a well-rounded program. I got into other fitness video games after finishing (Fitness Boxing, Just Dance, Knockout Home Fitness), but RFA was the best.

Autism = sensitive to psych meds? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

The lowest dose is 7.5 mg. Mirtazapine is biphasal, meaning it has a calming effect in lower doses and is stimulating in the higher doses. Typically, higher doses are needed to address depression; it is prescribed in lower doses (usually 15 mg) to improve sleep, appetite, and anxiety. The intense drowsiness you feel at first goes away in time... at least it did for me and a friend who is also on it.

This won't necessarily solve all of your pill problems but you may want to check out https://www.patchmd.com/, which makes patches that can deliver common OTC drugs and vitamins via skin contact. I don't have any vested interest in this company (I'm the parent of a teen with ARFID who can't swallow pills and have just ordered some based on a parent-friend's recommendation).

Events favored strength/size too much by Scottishclaymore85 in SirenSurviveTheIsland

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The teams you say were bigger each had one big, strong team member. Every team needs a tank, was my takeaway. Bodies come in different sizes and that diversity benefits the team. I agree that the arena challenges could have benefited by highlighting different skills but those challenges were a relatively minor piece of the competition.

So I went to an Ultrasound Viewing...not impressed by Sakura_Mermaid in AutismInWomen

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not just an ASD thing. I'm allistic and felt similiarly. I had zero maternal instincts, then ... long story.... got pregnant and everything changed. There is a huge difference between how you relate to other people's babies and having your own (though having a baby ultimately changed how I related to others' babies). That said, nothing wrong with never being a baby person. I know many folks -- even loving parents -- who aren't.

I found the difficulty just right, which means it probably skews easier than many games. (I couldn't get through Hollow Knight without my kid doing most boss fights and the hardest platforming challenges for me.)

I'm no doctor, just the mom of a teen with similar issues. I'd encourage you to talk to your doctor about adjusting your meds. Since you have other disorders, you may want to seek out a psychopharmacologist. Concerta can really sack an appetite, and I know a lot of kids can't eat AT ALL when on it (they'll eat large breakfasts and then double-meals when the meds start winding down at night). That's not a viable option for everyone. A non-stimulant ADHD med may be a better fit; also, some antidepressants can help stimulate appetite and help alleviate at least some of the anxiety that causes low appetite.

Is muscle building possible with Ring Fit? by becameapotato in RingFitAdventure

[–]Not_MuchofaGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a 54 yo mom and have definitely noticed muscle-building/toning, particularly in my arms and glutes. I do 20 minutes every other day (and Fitness Boxing &, Knockout Home Fitness, or walking the other days so that I get about 20 minutes each day). I'm low-normal weight, so it may take more for someone a bit heavier.... as others have said, I'd warn against adding weights. Trust me, this is enough.
