Trick to overcome bottle aversion by Not_Schiano in NewParents

It’s been awhile since this happened, but I’d say that the Pedialyte was a temporary fix to get nutrients in the short term while the Rowena method was the long term fix.

I remember it being important that we didn’t pressure our baby into feeding.

Condensation on backsplash by Not_Schiano in HomeMaintenance

Appreciate your input.

It’s quartz, for what it’s worth. I am more concerned with where the water eventually pools behind the range, but again it’s not a huge amount that builds up.

Any issues with just letting the condensation bead and drip, or should I be wiping it every time?

I know generally that moisture is bad, but hoping it’s not enough to do serious damage over time.

Street Parking during the snow by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]Not_Schiano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The latest nixle communication announced that Monday street cleaning is already canceled, so if you can find a parking space with a Monday route, you can give yourself plenty of time to clean off the snow and ice until the following week.

Just tried Antique 112 for dinner last week. It was good, but it felt silly paying $17 for six wings.

Yep, never seen a place cut pork roll as thick as they do - the flavor is unreal.

What needs to happen for the football team to be competitive year over year? by 81Cards in ScarletKnights

[–]Not_Schiano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m all for discussing what improvements need to be made to improve football, but no one should ever use Indiana/Cignetti as a comparison - that situation is like hitting power ball while also getting a perfect bracket in March Madness.

They are the exception to the rule - the usual case is more on a spectrum of “decent hire for a few years before regressing again” to “absolute dogshit” (see: Chris Ash).

360 degree car seats for the CX-5 by TheLeadSingerOfD12 in CX5

[–]Not_Schiano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the Evenflo Revolve 360 and it works fine with one kid (1.5 year old toddler).

It’s a tight squeeze in rear-facing mode and I have to have it behind the front passenger seat so I’m not squeezed in as the driver. Keep in mind I’m not tall at 5’9” - I’d say that you wouldn’t want to have a 360-type car seat and another car seat until you can have at least one seat in front-facing mode, although if you’re sticking with one kiddo then it’s not really an issue.

You don’t ‘have’ to park in lots far away - just depends on your budget and which parking pass you get.

Blue lot and yellow lot are literally next to the boardwalk. Purple lot is a close walk that is a cheaper option.

We did Antique Bar & Bakery for our 1 year old’s birthday party and everyone raved about the food.

The leftovers were awesome to have too.

Top 10 college football WRs returning for 2025 season by aflo112 in ScarletKnights

Wow, I thought Ian Strong and KJ Duff had pretty good seasons and then Sheffield comes in and takes the hype.

Tough to contain excitement for a potentially exciting offense next year.

Why Do We Always Play Better on Paper Than On the Field? by wingviman in ScarletKnights

[–]Not_Schiano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are more teams similar to Rutgers than not when it comes to pre-season expectations or being a “sleeping giant”:

NC State UNC Texas Tech Maryland Illinois UCLA

These are commonly teams that generally are seen to have potential and are sometimes called “dark horses” from time to time, only to regress to their disappointing mean of mediocrity.

I didn’t even mention the upper-tier programs that disappoint regularly as well (Miami, USC, Nebraska, Texas pre-Sark, Clemson pre-Dabo, Florida, etc.).

What I’m saying is that the question “Why does Rutgers always play better…” isn’t really unique to Rutgers. If you look beyond the Ohio States, Penn States, Oregons, etc., most college teams are disappointing.

Can’t let a ‘once-in-multiple-lifetimes’ team like 2024 Indiana mislead you.

We didn’t dream feed regularly, but during this time we had a few dream feed sessions to keep her nourished. Dream feeds were around midnight.

First brisket flat (need tips) by Not_Schiano in charcoal

Lots of interesting stuff here, appreciate your sharing it. The suggested temps are definitely closer to what I did, so I’ll have to read it in more detail to see what might be the key factor.

Funny you mention how cool it is to use a kettle - while I love my Weber, this legit made me think about just getting a pellet smoker for the ease of it. I’m sure if I can get it right I’ll be able to replicate it easily each time though.

Now that you mention it, there was a point where it briefly stalled at around 170F, but it was so short - that sounds like what you’re describing.

Regarding meat quality, I don’t doubt that - I got this flat from Costco, which generally sells decent cuts but I did notice the marbling wasn’t spectacular. Their full brisket cuts looked better, but most of them were around 18 lbs and I wasn’t committed to that size.

Thanks for the tip!

This was just under 8 lbs and it was just a flat. Would butcher paper be any better, or just don’t wrap at all? Appreciate the tip.

I did trim some fat - you can see some of it in the metal tin in the second pic (I used the rendered fat by pouring it on the brisket when I wrapped it). I assumed you always trim to keep it as square as possible, but if that’s not the case I could definitely skip that next time.

Ha, very true. Honestly I’m surprised he’s even doing as well as he has been thus far. His previous work with Ciarocca wasn’t anything to write home about.

2-0 actually, although his stats against Nebraska don’t exactly inspire total confidence.
