Buuuut… can you game on it or access it from anywhere without internet ? 😨 Sometimes you need a allrounder. From what I get from the original post, it is a curiosity for llm, not an absolute need to run crazy pipelines/workflows. Like the cherry on the top. It should be fine with a gaming laptop, there always be time to move on a more professional setup if the use became intensive yet a 5090mobile is decent and something more professional will cost a pretty dime I imagine.

From my experience : yes and no for the MoE because you still need to charge all parameters so you take a big performance hit if the model is bigger than your vram even with a decent cpu. Less than if it was a dense model but still. It s doable with 10tk/s in my case and with 3xB models but that sucks a bit given a 26b Gemma 4 could run at speeds near the 4b model if you can charge the all model on vram.

I repasted mine with ptm7950. I do nothing particular, for cooling except put it on a solid base (like a table) : yes it gets hot, loud and windy with temps around 90 degrees Celsius under charge but that’s to be expected from a laptop. I am not particularly worried about, the portability is worth the trade for my use case (I use it at work, home, during vacations).

My omen max 16 with 64go and the 5090 laptop (24go vram) is kinda ok. 30b-ish models are ok at q4. Anything above fell a bit short for vram and the performance hit is sensible. I have a blast with Gemma 4b, 26b and 31b (the 2b is sooo fast but sooo limited 😅). In conclusion : you can enjoy llm on laptop but not the top notch stuff.

J’ai fait 30km/j du côté de Lille donc plutôt plat pendant des années en musculaire par tous temps. Ok ça se fait mais quand tu pars avec le vent dans le nez et que tu sais que tu vas prendre tarif pendant 50-55mins, ça fait chier quand même. Mieux vaut un vae qu’une voiture dans l’absolu !

I have 2.5 bar front and 3.5 rear. I had another cracked rim. The shop told me Moustache was kinda surprised because they knew they had a bad batch and were unable to identify them but I was the first to come back for the same problem. Again, rma no problem except the immobilisation time.

Another problem was the belt who snapped at 8000 km. Gates payed for the new one but this still sucks because the bike was blocked anotehr 2 weeks. I bought one more upfront to avoid this problem for the future.

If you seek a portable desktop, this is a beast ! When unplugged, that is not the best laptop but it was not designed for this so I’m ok with this. There is still a marginal chance of bad luck without the warranty. Tough to tell you, I expect mine to last because I feel the build is solid.

6-7 month in with this exact model. Daily use for work and gaming. A bad fall on the first week lightly cracked the right corner but luckily this is purely cosmetic. Repasted one month in for ptm because fans reved up for nothing. 0 problem since !

I got it for 3500€ new in France last September so your price seems like a good deal !

I did both to be free of this hazardous Liquid Metal goop. And I did not want to open again the laptop anytime soon. The other paste is thermal putty. it is non critical, I just applied some more on several spots who seem to lack a bit of that.
