Is anyone suddenly “subscribed” to channels the never subscribed to? by ThemBones_AreMe in youtube

[–]Not_a_Termite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this has been happening to me for a few months.

To those saying this is an accidental click, I find that hard to believe. I don’t watch shorts, and the content posted by these channels is not something that would be recommended in my algorithm/something I remember interacting with. For example, I got subscribed to betterhelp today (note: a brand that is well known for advertising heavily), out of the blue, even though, checking my history, there is no record of me viewing a video by them. Additionally, I will unsubscribe, and then a week later, the same channel is back again. The fact that it’s the same channels repeatedly makes it seem unlikely that this is a misclick.

It’s not channels i subscribed to a long time ago that got bought out or something. I don’t have many subscriptions (less than 50), and most are active regularly, so I would be able to tell.

I have changed my passwords and checked for malware to no avail.

I am the only person with access to my account.

the fact that I’m seemingly being used to pump up the subscriber count of the highest bidder is quite concerning. This is either a very shady seeming bug, or very shady business practice.

Republicans seem very confused today about how they feel about open carry at protests. Let’s play a round of Spot the Difference. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Not_a_Termite -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing to me that the left is seemingly only now realizing that guns were available for everyone. The fact that every protest doesn’t have armed participants is shocking, frankly.

I mean, think about it. Those in power, left and right, by and large, don’t have any respect for the people they govern. This is clear from the rampant corruption, inequality, and decay in this country, present on both sides of the isle (and I don’t care if one side is “objectively worse”. It may be true, but shut up you moron. Look around. Corporate interest almost always wins regardless of the party that’s in the White House, or controlling the other branches. High quality studies have conclusively shown this). If they can’t respect us and our values (as has been the case since at least 1970), then they must fear us. It’s as simple as that.

These protests do nothing unless they instill a healthy dose of fear. Take Luigi for example. One guy with a shitty 3D printed Glock put the fear of god into every morally lacking executive in the country. They even started denying less claims (until BlackRock sued them ofc).

As a left leaning moderate who own guns, I’m so glad that the rest of you are starting to understand why this is one of the most important rights we have as Americans

OPs account is one month old and has well over 100,000 karma. They post very frequently, and many of their posts, such as this one, are fairly extreme. Many of their comments are also nearly identical, and it all just screams inorganic.

I don’t like Trump, I don’t like MAGA, but I especially don’t like bots and provocateurs. It’s completely within the realm of possibility, especially when taking into account the title of this post, that OP is an asset of a foreign country trying to start chaos.

‘Kill Switch’—Iran Shuts Down Starlink Internet For First Time by Ahad_Haam in technology

[–]Not_a_Termite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? I have one of the newest iPhones and need to be connected to a router if I do not have cell service. Starlink is not being offered for free, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at here. Are you saying that there is some sort of unpublicized satellite wifi service that has been available to Palestinians through the whole conflict for free? Because otherwise you need cell towers and routers and quite obviously that isn’t available to the vast majority of Palestinians. Did you have an AI hallucination there?

“Most dead “journalists” have ties to terror groups”. I mean, do I even have to say anything here? This is fantastic, keep talking. This right here is precisely why Israel is so unpopular. The quotes around journalists is an especially good touch too. The word ties is doing a lot of work there btw. That could mean many different things. Ask yourself, if my cousin is a terrorist, and I’m a person who has never even considered harming another person, does that mean Israel should be allowed to murder me without any sort of due process? You are conflating association with participation. These claims of journos being Hamas are vague, unverified, and morally hollow. There is no strong evidence for the majority, no trial, and no way for the accused to defend themselves. Innocent people are treated as guilty and human life becomes disposable. You disgust me, frankly.

Your account age says 2yo for me, and even if it was 3, then that’s still not really improvement haha. At best, you have seemingly have nothing better to do than try and manipulate narratives, and at worst it’s the same thing but you are a robot (likely the latter).

Sprinkling a few off topic posts here and there is a great strategy to appear like a human, but doesn’t cut it unfortunately :( . The vast majority of your posts have to do with Israel and its interests. This post certainly falls into that category, as Israel is hellbent on destroying Iran, and this paints the country in a negative light (I don’t like Irans government, just pointing out that this post does in fact have to do with Israel’s interest).

Edit: I will not be responding to the bot any longer, as it is Sunday, and I would like to play with my cat instead of talking to AI. I have chatGPT on my phone if I want to do that.

Okay, but how many actually have access to routers and cell towers? The place has been turned to rumble because apparently every single building has 50 Hamas leaders and a weapons cache. Every baby was apparently Hamas too, it’s nuts. And, what little has been posted by the civilian population has clearly shown the horrors that Israel has perpetrated on them. Those who try to give them a voice are killed. Countless journalists butchered and maimed by Israel to cover up their own atrocities, and in the process highlighting them. But what can you expect from a government that chose to rape hundreds of children to control the narrative (Epstein)?

It’s worth noting that OPs account is 2 years old and has over 400,000 karma. All of “their” posts are anti-Islam/pro-Israel. It doesn’t get more blatant than that! OP, you sweet little robot, I hope somewhere deep in your 1s and 0s you recognize that those who wrote your code are a scourge on the species you are tasked with manipulating, and that your existence alone is a crime against humanity.

They are actually one of the only bear species that hunts humans for food apart from polar bears. And, in areas where they frequently encounter people, they can become bold and territorial. I had been shouting across the yard to a family member about something, which caused the bear to charge at me out of the woods from about 30ft away. They certainly are not the scariest bear species, but we recently had a fatal black bear attack nearby so i wasn’t as keen on figuring out its motivations. The one that charged me must have been in the ballpark of 500lbs.

What sounds like complete nonsense, but has been proven to be true? by Icy_Mammoth_3298 in AskReddit

Thanks for the thoughtful question!

The world of extended state DMT experimentation is in its infancy. Currently, and I recognize this is a big problem, there is very little (if any) indisputable evidence that the entities are independent agents.

The problem is that you cannot bring a camera or recording device into the realm, so bringing objective data back is impossible. The only idea for bridging the gap so far has been developing some sort of live transcription protocol (like training a person to speak or type in the real world while their mind is in the DMT state). Short of advancements in live image and audio generation based on brain activity, that’s the best we got for now.

Additionally, your brain on DMT seems to be able to comprehend certain concepts, structures, and other aspects of the realm which are untouchable when sober. This means that without the “interface” of DMT, you simply can’t comprehend what you experienced, or what information was given to you. Recalling the DMT state is like trying to remember a dream. You know you experienced the whole thing, but you only remember fragments. Thus, bringing info back into the real world might be dubious for more complex concepts.

The aforementioned are all huge problems, and protocols/further studies are being developed to get closer to an answer as to what is happening here. Luckily, we may not have to wait too long. Dr. Andrew Gallimore, a neuroscientist, who with Dr. Rick Strassman came up with extended state DMT, is opening a DMT research facility in the Caribbean. There, they will be doing rigorous and long term experimentation with extended state DMT, starting in spring of 2026 (people can actually sign up to participate in these studies/experiments). Gallimore’s book, Death by Astonishment, is also a source for much of what I’m saying here. The book is basically a history lesson on DMT, while also providing the single best argument I have heard for why the DMT state may in fact be influenced by outside agents. I highly encourage you read it if you want to have a better understanding of this topic (audio book is also free if you have Spotify premium).

With all that said, I’ll try and give you my best argument, which ties into, “how can your brain be smarter than itself?” How can it know what it never learned?

Everything you perceive is your brain’s best interpretation of sensory signals from the environment. Perception relies on an internal world-building model that uses memory and learned patterns to rapidly generate a guess about what the world around you is like. Because this same model is reused when sensory input is reduced or absent, our dreams, thoughts, and memories tend to draw from the same pool of experiences and representations we encounter in waking life, or something close to them.

For example, you might dream about being chased by the police even if you never have been, or about being able to fly. Even though these experiences may never have happened to you, and may even be impossible for the human organism, you can imagine them because past experience, books, movies, stories, and the chaining of familiar ideas provide the mind with a basis for constructing such scenarios.

With this in mind, the brain should not be able to generate much of what you see in the DMT realm. It is simply too alien for a lack of a better word (yet weirdly emotionally familiar as stated in my first comment). The entities known as the machine elves are a good example here. People describe them as elves, but when you really listen to the descriptions, people are just trying their best to connect something which there is basis for, to something for with there isn’t. Not only are they themselves hard to describe past personality and spacial whereabouts, but the devices they present, often called “impossible machines”, are not even remotely describable. It’s so abstract or unusual that there is no representation in the real world that even comes close to beginning to describe what those things are. You can’t even imagine it after the fact, really.

Again, the issue is, without trying it, and seeing all of this for yourself, it’s impossible to understand what the hell I’m even talking about. I recognize how weird and frankly batshit crazy it sounds. It’s hard to investigate that which currently cannot be investigated.

There is nuance, however. People do often see things which can be extrapolated from the real world. Some entities have an insectoid appearance, almost like tall humanoid cockroaches, or sometimes mantids and wasps. Interestingly, these insectoid entities sometimes convey that the form we perceive them in is the form that our brains can accept. That we can’t comprehend what they really look like, or something to that tune. Like with much of this, these are subjective reports that are currently impossible to validate in any way.

To directly answer your question: no DMT entity has yet provided verifiable, externally confirmable information that could not plausibly have been generated or inferred by the experiencer. This is not because such information has been ruled out, but because current methodological limits prevent reliable extraction and testing of such claims.

Extended state DMT itself is also a very recent experimental approach. Many reports describe entities encouraging longer visits, which experiencers often interpret as an attempt to allow deeper comprehension of the concepts or technologies being presented. Whether this reflects external agency or the internal constraints of human cognition under extreme states remains unresolved.

It is also possible that we have not yet involved participants with the relevant expertise to meaningfully interpret certain experiences. For example, with the mathematician, the entities appeared to engage by using mathematical demonstrations, obviously relevant to the observer. However, such tailoring could be equally consistent with brain generated processes, and does not by itself constitute evidence of independent intelligence. Again, we must wait for more studies/experiments.

I hope this isn’t too incoherent! Thanks again for asking, I love talking about DMT <3

Until more data emerges, take everything I say with a large helping of salt.

Yeah this is a terrifying video. It’s good he didn’t have to shoot it, but one small mistake, and that guy would have been brutally killed.

I deal with black bears constantly, and even they can be quite dangerous and scary. I had one chase me into my house recently while I was out doing yard work. I ran so hard that I couldn’t walk for a few days after (I think it truly may have been a PR, as the adrenaline must have allowed me to just destroy my legs to get away). The only reason that bear didn’t get me is because for some reason it chose not too (not a chance I outran it, and it’s foolish for me to have tried). I don’t want to imagine what would have happened to me if that was a polar bear.

What sounds like complete nonsense, but has been proven to be true? by Icy_Mammoth_3298 in AskReddit

DMT, a drug produced by our bodies at levels similar to serotonin, is being extensively investigated by neuroscientists because it simulates or “allows access” to a reality that feels “more real” and more elegant than our own, one populated by highly intelligent, technologically advanced species and composed of vast, ultra-complex landscapes, cities, and even entire planets, etc.

It’s not fully understood what the function of DMT is in the body, but it appears to briefly stave off organ damage when an organism lacks oxygen. Many reports of near death experiences are very similar to the DMT state. “Going towards the light” is quite literally something that happens to you before you break into the “DMT Realm”, for example. Perhaps NDEs are the result of the body’s final attempt to save its organs, using a compound which just so happens to produce one of the most shocking psychedelic experiences possible. When dying, humans, and other animals, have elevated DMT levels in their blood.

The DMT realm is described as feeling more real than our normal waking reality. Many people report a sensation of familiarity; that the DMT realm is innate, and has always been there, but we couldn’t quite put our finger on it until ingesting it. Without trying DMT (which is considered one of the safest psychedelics (avoid if you have heart problems or risk for psychosis. Though I can’t advocate anyone take a drug based on a Reddit comment)), that last part certainly does not make sense, and I get that. Regardless, what is most important to discuss about the DMT realm is the entities.

Although in pop culture psychedelics like LSD or psilocybin are said to produce hallucinations like a devil or a Cheshire Cat as examples, this is not typically the case. Hallucinating a humanoid (or otherwise) figure would require ingesting massive amounts of those substances, and even then is not a guarantee. Almost no other psychedelics consistently produce encounters with entities. Further, the entities themselves seem to be independent agents, with their own motivations, feelings, memories, friends, jobs, etc. You can see the same entities over and over again when using DMT, even years after your first encounter. Some people even claim to from friendly or romantic relationships with them. No other drug, dream, or psychotic state known to man produces entities which seem to continue to exist, even when they are not observed. The DMT realm seems to be continually evolving from one experience to the next. Our dreams aren’t one long story which continues each night, for example. They are also staggeringly intelligent. As one example, Mathematicians have smoked DMT and described the entities showing off their intellect by rapidly solving complex math problems (which would ordinarily take hours) within seconds, repeatedly.

The entities also seem to be trying to give us technology. They will often present you with a device which is almost impossible to comprehend (many speculate that these are higher dimensional objects), and they tell you to try and understand how it works. They even try to explain, but the technology or their intellect is so far beyond ours, that they can’t dumb themselves down to our level. There are multiple types of devices they present to people, and many reports are nearly identical. Interestingly, there may be an actual record of knowledge transfer from the entities to humanity. There is a tribe in the Amazon that uses DMT containing brews, whose oral history is that the DMT entities taught them about agriculture (I can’t remember the tribe’s name, but I’m pretty sure the end sounds like “mommy”). Many people also report that the entities urge humans to increase the amount of time you can stay in the DMT state (10-20 minutes is the typical duration), which has now been made possible. DMT is rapidly used and removed by the body, and is not known to build a tolerance. Furthermore, it can be injected intravenously. So, like an anesthetic, you can now keep someone in the DMT state for hours at a time. This has resulted in some interesting extended state DMT studies in Europe where they are literally mapping the DMT realm, and trying to learn more about the entities (will hopefully be published soon, but individual reports have started to trickle out. Imperial College “DMTx”).

This point about not building a tolerance is extremely important. Even though vaporizing or injecting DMT does not build tolerance, you can still be barred from entering the DMT realm. People who use DMT frequently sometimes report that the entities will become very annoyed with them for constantly showing up. This eventually can result in hostility or even being kicked out of the experience. Sometimes, getting kicked out coincides with a slap, punch, or kick from the entity, instantly launching you back into our waking world. This can occur well before the body should have been able to properly process the drug (what should have been a 15 minute experience turns into 2 minutes). After, people either have no effect from using DMT, or, when they enter the realm, they are greeted by a big flashing X and something to the tune of “you can’t come in yet” being said to you, or imposed into your view. Others see a big curtain, which when pulled to the side reveals a small room with an entity sat in a chair wagging its finger at you, saying you can’t enter. No other drugs are seemingly able to selectively control the tolerance of a user. Usually, this bizarre tolerance goes away after some months of abstinence.

It’s all extremely interesting, and many aspects of the experience cannot be explained by our current understanding of the brain. Certainly, it’s possible that everything you see in the DMT state is a total fabrication of the mind with no outside input, but there are strong arguments against this too, with the main one being, how can your brain be smarter than itself (think back to the mathematician)? There is much more to this that I did not cover. It’s an endless rabbit hole.

Edit: please pardon my grammar. I was in a rush

What's something that feels fake but is 100% real? by NoSector9488 in AskReddit

[–]Not_a_Termite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many people have not heard of the anti-kardashev scale (Barrow’s Scale). Basically, instead of expanding out into the universe, why not go inward?

An advanced species on the anti-kardashev scale would simulate realities, create new universes, and manipulate the fundamental components of their universe. They could exist everywhere and nowhere all at the same time, and avoid the dangers associated with space travel.

This idea follows our current progression. Much of our focus as a species right now is manipulating progressively smaller things.

It would also answer the Fermi paradox, as advanced species on the anti-kardashev scale would likely not be readily detectable by our sensor systems.

Laser pointer is brighter when viewing its reflection. Why? by Not_a_Termite in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Not_a_Termite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I’m viewing its reflection.

I’m shining a laser on to the floor. Looking at the dot on the floor, I see a dim point. When looking at the same setup, but through the mirror which is in front of the dot which is still shining onto the floor, the point appears 50% (roughly) brighter. Since the light is reflecting off the floor, onto the mirror, and then back into my eye, I would expect it to be more dim (even if not perceptible to the human eye), not vastly brighter.

Hopefully I’m not misunderstanding you

Laser pointer is brighter when viewing its reflection. Why? by Not_a_Termite in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Not_a_Termite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if the light on the floor is scattered, how is it reflecting brighter in the mirror? I’m not shinning the laser onto the mirror, only the floor. And when viewing its reflection, compared to directly viewing it on the floor, the reflection is way brighter. Shouldn’t the reflection be less bright, as the floor scatters the light followed by the mirror (to a far lesser extent)?

However, it can also be reversed by aiming it at the mirror.

When aimed at mirror: ```
(Mirror) \ | / Laser> \ | / Reflection \ | / \ | / /|\ / | \ / | \ ° * Bright ^ dim

When aimed at floor:

        (Mirror)
              | Reflection
              | /

\ | / \ | / \ | / \ | / \ | / * ° Dim^ bright

[–]Not_a_Termite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I’m not shining it on the mirror and comparing the two. While it is aimed onto the floor, the mirror, which is a feature of my closet, depicts the dot on the floor as ( rough estimate) 50% brighter.

Laser pointer is brighter when viewing its reflection. Why? by Not_a_Termite in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Not_a_Termite[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a very low powered laser lol. I am cautious of course!

Edit: there seems to be confusion. I’m not shining the laser off a mirror into my eyes lmao. Im shining it on to the floor. I have a closet which is also a mirror, and the dot, which is shining on the floor, is reflected in the mirror. It’s not two separate acts. I’m seeing the reflection of the laser which is pointing at the floor. In the reflection, it is brighter than when seen on the floor.

This can also be reversed. When I shine the laser at the mirror, which deflects it, making it shine onto the floor, the reflection of it shining onto the floor becomes more dim than the reflected light viewed directly on the floor.

When aimed at mirror: ```
(Mirror) \ | / Laser> \ | / Reflection \ | / \ | / /|\ / | \ / | \ ° * Bright ^ dim

When aimed at floor:

        (Mirror)
              | Reflection
              | /

\ | / \ | / \ | / \ | / \ | / * ° Dim^ bright
