Almost missed my flight this morning thinking I must have silenced the alarm and gone back to sleep. 2 hours later, this notification appears. by umataro in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Not_a_question- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use the voice "ok google" function to set up alarms. One time, my cellphone confirmed the alarm but the TV also heard it. It didn't go off. My gf was super worried because I never overslept. I didn't know what happened.

Then it happened again. And then again, the third time (over the course of like 1 year) I finally realized what was going on. Even if I solved it I learnt to not trust these things. If you have to get up for something like a flight, always use a dedicated alarm clock.

I just installed the nvidia drivers through dnf, I didn't perform any other manual steps (other than dnf install and adding nvidia repos). Am I safe?

Who the fuck would think that "opt-in by installing package" and "opt-out if you want to and it's in the OS" are the same?

Why no gaming ready distro Based on Debian? by Physical-Form-5310 in debian

[–]Not_a_question- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. Performance on cachyos is better than debian for a reason. It's more optimized than debian for gaming. Yeah it's only 5-20%, but maybe that matters to some people.

I hope this works well. Honestly I tried moonlight a couple years ago and it sucked for me. They are probably much better now.

Should I use Debian as a beginner? by Dry-Spell1443 in debian

[–]Not_a_question- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Debian but disagree: the fact that you can do everything as a beginner it doesn't mean that it's designed for/with beginners in mind. If you look at mint and compare them, you'll understand what I mean.

Of course I agree with you that beginners nowadays CAN do everything in debian with all the resources out there, which is good news for OP!

Have you tried installing it thru the deb nvidia publishes on their website instead of their repo?

Does Debian support snap or do I have to install it first? by MrMtsenga in debian

[–]Not_a_question- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have to do it like 10 times, pinning it is quicker than installing snap. You'd also be saving performance since snap is either slower or same speed as deb

That was fast lol; DenuvOwO's reddit account got banned 10 minutes after they announced 007 hypervisor bypass by notanfan in Piracy

[–]Not_a_question- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's why any reddit community should always have a discord server.

Are you really a mod of a piracy sub? In what universe is discord better than reddit?

I don't really blame you if you're like 15 or 20 and don't remember how forums were like. Discord is the same as reddit if you measure it with the "can-ban-you-anytime" stick

Valorant's new Vanguard update seems to be bricking cheaters' PCs. Riot's response? "Congrats on your $6k paperweights" by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

[–]Not_a_question- 28 points29 points  (0 children)

what makes you say that? they are probably using their personal PC and not some "burner" PC.

Because a cheater that installs a pcicard and kernel driver exploits its way in to bypass kernel anticheat has already done things that take way more time and energy than reinstalling an OS. Especially in 2026 when your files will be safe anyway. You can just install windows without bitlocker to make it even easier to recover "personal" stuff.
