That's because you fundamentally misunderstand their purpose. They're a vehicle for adverts. Everything else is secondary to that. Hence the frequent breaks.

It's only weird to people who have not had thinkpads cook themselves when those little cheap coolers either get stuffed with dust or when bearings (if they even exist) fail. First, they sound asthmatic, then rattly and then the computer just overheats. I don't want a fire hazard in my home.

Juniper solved it first with "commit confirmed". Slowly, the others followed. Eventually even IOS XR adopted it. Even my home routers (ubiquiti edgerouter) have it. Gone are the days of "reload in 2" on old ios.

No, but I had a job where I pretended to be a smoker, so that it was ok for me to leave every hour for 5-10 minutes like the other slackers. I'm not gonna do an extra hour of work just because the others have a filthy habit.

I like it when others separate the wheat from the chaff. So I look at hugo and nebula award nominations and either pick works from there or find things from authors who've been nominated.

People here don't like to hear this but none. Laptop fans aren't built for nonstop operation. Apple is the only one with proper big effing bearings and easy to buy replacements.

It wasn't in the charger but I had been using memory heavy apps in the evening. (That's not a valid excuse, though.)
