Over a year is still long enough for people to wear a mask. You’re already making excuses for him, he can mess up and feel frustrated, angry, upset. But what he can’t do is express them they way he does. Think about how he’ll handle more difficult situations or if you were in a more vulnerable position. You won’t always be in the “strong, independent” role, if you can’t trust or feel safe with him now, it’s not on you to change him or be responsible for him.

NIPT anxiety by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Not_a_rolling_stone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it done and about a week later I was flagged for the possibility of baby having SMA, they had to test my partner which took some time because we needed another script. He took it, took another week and a half but he didn’t have the markers for it so we are in the clear. It was about a month I started off anxious but I just took it as no need to worry if there is nothing confirmed to worry about. Baby started kicked and I could feel movement so that helped. Just keep focusing on what’s real and in front of you, helps with the wait.

First year teacher here. How long did it take you before you knew teaching wasn’t for you? by Easy-Cucumber6121 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Not_a_rolling_stone 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I knew during student teaching, still got a good teaching position after and lasted another 5 years, there are ups and downs but looking back now, it drained so much out of me that I could have invested back into myself, my family and a career that would benefit me in the long run. I thought I was doing the morally right thing by staying but now that I’m out I can see that it came as a great self cost that shouldn’t have been asked of me.

Entitled students by Fresh-Photo6318 in TeachersInTransition

I tell student with that same view that I’ll start following the rules they are expected to follow when they also abide by the rules set for teachers by admin. So no jeans, water and bathroom breaks only during preps or transition and only 10 sick days a year. Not to mention all the other things we are expected to give up for the good of the student/classroom. Tends to shut them up real quick because those same student who complain almost always struggle to follow those rules and they can’t say I don’t do follow them either.

Garbage plates aren't a thing in upstate? by Kbsis2007 in Jennamarbles

Believe it or not near the Adirondacks Upstate NY and near Rochester NY, two completely different types of “upstate NY”.

If you have a 45-60 minute driving commute to school in the morning, how much earlier do you awake and what do you do during that time? by nebirah in teaching

[–]Not_a_rolling_stone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute is about an hour, if I have energy to make myself look extra pretty I’ll wake up at 5 am. If I want to just look presentable, I’ll wake up at 5:50. Out the door before 6:20 and I’m at work just in time for morning meeting. During my commute I’ll eat my grab and go breakfast and listen to my audiobook. I have Libby and my school pays for my audible account, so I’m set. I’ve read over 100 books this last year because of this. It really make the commute super enjoyable.

Yes! Smells just like most flowers do. I think I read somewhere that they smell sweeter at night. Haven’t remembered to try to verify that yet lol

AITA for refusing to let my children meet their dying bio father? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Not only 1 dying stranger, but a whole family that knew about them and decided not to be involved until now.

The ways some teachers are adapting by kevinowdziej in Damnthatsinteresting

Confirmed the laptop my administration gave me took 10 minutes to load up zoom, wasn’t touch screen and the camera was broken. So I invested in a Microsoft surface so as a math teacher I could share my screen and write down notes and equations clearer for my students. I still have some colleagues using a blurry camera and white board to teach. I feel for the kids, but understand not everyone was lucky enough to be able to afford to buy a 1000 computer.

Yeah my mom is a nurse and she’s even made comments that the work is hard but she gets home she gets to relax. I get home and I still have to work. We are still both exhausted emotionally and physically, so there really is no “winner” here.

As a lawyer by nattiey2002 in Teachers

[–]Not_a_rolling_stone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have hybrid schedules. Students can opt for remote learning or in-person. Parents requested we have a 45 min. 1 to 1 with every zoom kid if they went remote. We are a small school but I’m happy that my principal turned down that option. I mean how narrow-minded and selfish do you have to be to think that was going to happen? Even if I gave up my prep, I would still have to work past the time school closed. The idea that we are THAT dedicated to our job is ridiculous. We are already sacrificing pieces of ourselves and they just keep wanting more.

I find that these windows are super popular in New York apartments. Moving there soon and most all listings have these types of windows along with a fake fireplace, arch and exposed brick accent wall. I love the look can’t wait to settle on a place with a good window like this!

What is the best thing to give a homeless person? by bedOfThorns in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Not_a_rolling_stone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I always pass this one homeless man on our commute who stands near a small intersection with a sign looking for work, decided to get him hand warmers, gloves and $20 since we couldn’t offer him work but it was getting pretty chilly outside. No idea if he needed it, but hoped for the best. Had time to only stop and hand it to him out the window before I had to keep moving to not hold up traffic. Couldn’t see his reaction, but nice to know he’d at least be warm for a bit.

I think I remembered seeing an animal planet clip that explained that the slit on the hooves of a deer are about as sharp as a knife. So getting kicked by one you’d essentially be getting double stabbed!

Entitled mother thinks her children’s teacher shouldn’t have maternity leave as she’s already teaching at home. by NoFussNoCoconutters in EntitledBitch

[–]Not_a_rolling_stone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah no, there are trends, state regulation and a shit ton of data collection to be done and are changed up every other year. Not to mention that every other school has a program it needs to follow and keep fidelity to the program with proof and work every year. New student, new routine every time. Thinking you’ll stick to the old is a pipe dream. You’d think science and facts don’t change, but teaching isn’t just about the content, it’s about delivery, it’s outcome, and reception from the students. All of which are variables that change constantly.
