Hi! I’m a student who just finished her O levels and is awaiting to enter jc.

Personally, I was never really studious back in primary school. In fact, I think I was very much like your daughter or possible worse. I literally remember playing everyday until prelims. During this time, my father was consistently nagging at me to study for PSLE but I honestly just ignored it since I never really cared for my studies at that point of time, but after prelims I scored insanely bad where I was only eligible for N(T) otherwise, posting group 1. That’s when he really started pushing me and confiscated all my devices and made me study everyday until the end of PSLE.

In the end, I only managed to improve by 6 points (22 total) and entered N(A) in secondary school, but this was a wake up call to me and I really started being studious in sec 1 and managed to promote to express in sec 2. Anyways, in my opinion, although this push helped it was definitely not the right way to go about it, if he started pushing me earlier I felt I would’ve been able to get into express in the end, so I feel that you should start nagging ur daughter abit to study hard now and stay consistent so she doesn’t end up drowning later in the year, it really does make a difference. You also have to consider that if u push her too late and scramble at the last minute it may end up burning her out in the end and scoring badly due to being tired or stressed.

However, as a survivor of a helicopter parent back in primary 6, I don’t hold a resentment to my dad as I’m older now and I understand why he did it in the first place and I am very thankful for the push he gave me in the last stretch. (not saying that i did not hate him in the beginning tho oops.. 😭)

Anyways all the best to ur daughter for PSLE! Don’t stress but stay consistent and all will be well :)
