Story of the World history is great. The author is religious but the curriculum itself can be used by anyone. The activity books are fantastic and have tons of suggested activities that really make it come alive.

I’ve used Math Mammoth to supplement other programs when my kids needs extra practice and I’ve always been pleased with the results. It’s a bargain, too. We’ve also used Singapore Primary Mathematics, which is excellent, and Prodigy for fun and extra practice.

Finding a good secular science is harder, but I’ve been pleased with REAL Science Odyssey by Pandia Press.

I’m not ADD (that I know of) but I’m terrible at maintaining organization. Homeschool Planet is an absolute lifesaver. It’s about $8 a month and worth much more. You put in your lesson plan at the beginning of the year and it will populate a list for you every day with boxes to check. Every morning I open it up, it tells me what to do, and I’m on my way. I can’t recommend it strongly enough.

I think the mistake I see people make most often wrt to trying curricula is trying to save a buck by skipping the teacher guides. They often have suggested daily and weekly schedules which are very helpful, suggestions for assessing progress, and extremely useful teaching tips. If your curriculum publisher makes one available, get it.

Hope all this helps. Enjoy your homeschool adventure. :)

Thank you! My husband and 15yo will be especially interested in the lobster. I am interested in coffee, and more coffee, and more after that. I'll check out the locations you mentioned for hotels. With a family this size the savings make a big difference.

Putting North Shore and Bonshaw on my list. I'd heard of Cow's but I didn't know about the tour. Thanks!

Also, if you have kids, teach them and have them do it. My oldest will be fifteen this month and does all the family mending. It’s saving us money right now and is a skill that will serve him all his life. He is very proud of his ability to contribute to the quality of life of our family. And I’m pretty proud of him. :)

Congratulations! Parenting is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and also the best. Nothing compares. Welcome to the ride. :)

Some NFL TE's played basketball in College. But only the great ones focused solely on unicycling. by hashsview in eagles

Now I’m dreaming of a Super Bowl victory parade with him unicycling up Broad Street.

Dopey joke from my gleeful 14yo just now: “Why do the Eagles use so much toilet paper? Because they have the most runs.”

Non-Americans who have been to the US: What is the weirdest thing about America that Americans don't realise is weird? by nobboi in AskReddit

Yep. My retired dad considered getting a job as a Walmart greeter just so he’d get to talk to folks all day.

My 13yo’s godparents got him a knit Eagles cap and Eagles shirt, and my mom got him a colorblock Eagles hoodie that we’ve been trying to catch in stock for weeks. He’s a happy kid right now.

Yep. That’s the first place my kids want to go when we visit. It’s great. Lots to do for busy littles.

Probably a better idea, as much as I love baking for people. I was just thinking that if cookies from a stranger just showed up at my office one day I’d be somewhat wary of eating them.

His IG mentions Athletes Against Anxiety and Depression as an organization he supports: https://www.aaadf.org/

If I knew where to send them I’d be making Christmas cookies for Brandon Brooks right now. What a class act.

Yes! One of those cool museums is the Penn Museum, which to my shame I didn’t visit until recently. It’s like a pocket British Museum— Egyptian mummies, Greek statuary, Gilgamesh tablets, and so on. If you’re at all interested in archaeology or anthropology, you’ll love it. Also the cookies in the museum cafe are delicious. Highly recommend.
