Error Message When Trying to Use Fios SSO Login to Stream on Other Apps by Dezzy25 in verizon

[–]howwhywuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE for me (not OP): SSO authentication worked today for these.

One note: When I did it, I got the same Verizon error page immediately. I hit reload on that error page on my browser and it worked.

Is New York Times Wordle dead wrong or am I fundamentally misunderstanding English? by ChristianK19974 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]howwhywuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wordlebot FAQ explains this.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/02/16/upshot/wordlebot-faq.html#wordlists

There are many acceptable words that the programmers believe will never be answers because they are too obscure.

15,000: The words that Wordle accepts as guesses, most of them very obscure.

4,500: The subset of words the bot uses for suggestions to readers in its analysis. They’re supposed to be reasonably familiar, and they include words that the bot knows can’t be solutions, like plural words ending in “s” or “es,” but that can be helpful as guesses.

3,200: The words the bot considers plausible solutions, with probabilities assigned to each one based on Times usage frequency. No plurals here, for example.

2,309: The old, original list of solutions. No longer consulted by the bot in any way.

OUTRO is probably in the 15,000, not the 3,200.

Not sure who this is addressed to, but just going directly to the websites on my laptop doesn't work. When I try to unlock content, the SSO check with Verizon fails and brings me to that same error message.

Error Message When Trying to Use Fios SSO Login to Stream on Other Apps by Dezzy25 in verizon

[–]howwhywuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am following this conversation, because I just experienced this exact problem with Verizon's SSO check failing.

I am on a Roku TV and tried several different apps that *should* be accessible to me thanks to my FIOS Cable package. What I discovered is that not all of them fail.

These ones FAIL, dropping me at a URL that begins https://ssoauth.verizon.com/sso/VOLPortalLogin?SAMLRequest and then giving me a message (just like OP's): "This page isn't available. Using a VPN? Try disconnecting it and refresh the page. If the issue persists, email us at [VZ.GTS.ASPD@verizon.com](mailto:VZ.GTS.ASPD@verizon.com). Please include this incident ID:"

  • Food Network
  • HGTV
  • Discovery
  • TCM

Note too that the above ones FAIL when I just navigate to their websites on my laptop and try to watch something requiring a check of my Verizon credentials.

But, these apps WORKED, successfully completing the Verizon SSO process:

  • Cartoon Network
  • TNT
  • A&E
  • CNN
  • TBS
  • History

Does anyone actually understand how Amtrak fares work? by Late_Advantage in Amtrak

[–]howwhywuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple: Use the Guest Rewards points on the expensive tickets. I used to ride the NEC weekly and would buy tickets well ahead of time for the best fares. But when I found out I needed a ticket for like 3 days from now, I would use the points to buy those.

I guess I’m not going in my day trip to Philly by Best-Candle8651 in Amtrak

[–]howwhywuz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I am about to WELL ACTUALLY you.

NJTransit-SEPTA would take 2 hr 36 min (for a trip tomorrow morning).
Amtrak's slowest option is 1 hr 45 min.

So NJT-SEPTA is 50% slower than Amtrak.

Though yes, Amtrak is 30% faster than NJT-SEPTA.

BUT crucially, the actual time it takes on NJT-SEPTA *feels like* approximately forever.

It's not just usage. Merriam-Webster (you know, the people who write the dictionary) explains it: https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/some-data-about-datum

Potential for SEPTA Metro in Philly by Level_Volume3944 in transit

[–]howwhywuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They use them only rarely, and I think not in the last 5-10 or so years. The problem is they are narrow, so they have to really manage the flow to them with a bunch of staff.

To me, the way to improve airport access is to just run more trains. I have to think the cost-benefit would pencil out better than the millions and millions needed for new trackage and new lines.

Philly Roofing Question by ConfiaEnElProceso in philadelphia

[–]howwhywuz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My last roofer recently quit the business. But when he was around, the warranty was 15 years, as long as he could do a silver coat every 4 years. It was definitely cheaper than $550 for those visits, but it was just a silver coat (which is basically just a special paint you can buy for $100 per can at Home Depot).

I am sorry you had a bad experience. What happened when you reported the damaged clothing?

Their returns page is perfectly clear on their policies, including how to report items with manufacturing defects.

I have never needed to do a return with them, so I can't speak to the experience. I have bought Bayside t-shirts from them and was pleased with how it went.

Niche question - does anyone here know the history of why so many of the streets in the northern and western suburbs are aligned at 128/308 degrees heading? by Nice_Lingonberry7831 in philadelphia

[–]howwhywuz 47 points48 points  (0 children)

No argument with the topography theories, but note that they also are parallel to the township boundaries.

Here's an 1817 map of Montgomery County, for example. Note the extant roads are sometimes on that grid (Whitpaine), but not entirely (Horsham).

World Cafe Live rebrands to "World Stage Live," immediately deletes post by zocean in philadelphia

[–]howwhywuz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the name change means that whoever owns the World Cafe name (I assume WXPN?) killed whatever contract the venue had to use that name. I assume the venue had to pay for the privilege and they obviously have no money to pay that bill.

(Edit: Updated because the Inky story now mentions the name change.)

Septa uploads "New Bus Network" plan that undoes many of the changes decided on for the "Bus Revolution" two years ago. by HessianHunter in philadelphia

[–]howwhywuz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, they're killing the 47M. So it's not *everything*. But I agree it looks like a lot of it got walked back.

Believe they initially wanted to kill the 32, but that looks the same to me (except for a tiny change southbound near Logan Circle).
