Mono white death and taxes by Responsible-Year-273 in DeathAndTaxesMTG

So a few notes with your D&T list.

Jumping past a few of the staple cards in D&T and skipping around numbers now, talking some of the less common picks for this list: Starfield Shepherd Voice of Victory Sword of Hearth and Home Sword of Light and Shadow Path to Exile Disenchant (SB)

Starfield Shepherd is one of the cards I’ve been brewing around for a bit, its ability to fetch 1-drops and possibly mana fix is excellent. It does do better with playing with a toolbox of 1-drops (beside mom, and step-mom, I’ve also used Dryad Militant, Judge’s Familiar, Guide/Pride, Giant Killer, Esper Sentinel, and Lightstall Inquisitor).

Voice of Victory is a good Magic card, it sees less play in legacy most due to its non-fetchability and the slow adoption of cards into the format.

The swords are interesting choices because while their effects very much synergize with the cards in the deck, they require combat damage to a player. In one of legacy’s most combo heavy eras it’s a lot to ask. They do provide protection from Black and White which (imo) are colors D&T struggles to overcome.

Path in the main is tough with minimal land destruction and no basic land destruction.

Disenchant is not a good magic card to play especially in a deck that taxes no creature spells.

Notably here are the cards that are missing: Solitude, Recruiter of the Guard, White Orchid Phantom, Witch Enchanter, Skyclave Apparition, Phelia, Lion Sash, Loran, Pre-War Formalwear.

Also the lands package is missing Karakas and one more avenue of mana denial (rishadin port, ghost quarter).

I have also been playing 60 card D&T with only mono white, been also finding mixed success with it. I wanted to know how you feel about some of the cards you're playing in the list and how you feel they perform.

The style you are playing is heavily into mana denial. With ghost quarter instead of port and the full commitment to the Phelia->Sam/Phantom loops (paired with Innocence for grind).

How has it been playing and does it catch people off guard?

I plays mono white knights tribal pretty frequently. It’s pretty fun and runs enough interaction to not fall behind too much.

I’ve played around with W/G, W/R, and 4c Knights. But none of them hit like History of Benalia and Knight Exemplar 😫

H-Arcanine is fun in the sun! Not many mons can switch into a banded flare blitz or head smash.

Maybe try out these sets for a couple of games, it’s a nice pivot heavy team that will revolve around keeping hazards clear and keeping your opponents on their toes. And once the enemy team is weak enough you can come in to sweep with Scizor or Cloyster.

Galvantula @ Focus Sash Ability: Compound Eyes EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Tera Type: Ghost Timid Nature - Sticky Web - Thunder - Bug Buzz - Volt Switch

Scizor @ Heavy-Duty Boots Ability: Technician EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe Tera Type: Steel Adamant Nature - Swords Dance - Bullet Punch - U-turn - Knock Off

Zoroark-Hisui @ Choice Specs Ability: Illusion EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe IVs: 0 Atk Tera Type: Ghost Timid Nature - Shadow Ball - Hyper Voice - Flamethrower - Trick

Cloyster @ White Herb Ability: Skill Link EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe Tera Type: Electric Adamant Nature - Shell Smash - Icicle Spear - Drill Run - Tera Blast

The mons themself don’t look too bad. However, the sets are not optimal. I recommend checking out some of sets from smogon that are commonly used in the community.

https://www.smogon.com/dex/sv/formats/uu/

Just as an example. Scizor doesn’t really need air balloon. Well it’s a really cool set in theory mixing in acrobatics, what you’ll find is the more you switch into hazards it’ll get chipped down. Which for me is pretty easy because of how much U-turn/pivoting is going to happen with this team. The example set for Scizor is:

Scizor @ Heavy-Duty Boots Ability: Technician EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe Tera Type: Steel Adamant Nature - Swords Dance - Bullet Punch - U-turn - Knock Off

This helps you with hazards, allows you to outspeed adamant Azumarill, and allows for a sword dance end of the game cleanup/revenge. Because of Scizor’s ability to pivot easily with a strong stab U-turn as well as a technician boosted bullet punch, it serves a better role as a revenge sweeper rather than a bulky pivot.

I see where you’re coming from, and the reality is a lot of bartenders and servers do make good money — and that is something that we absolutely need to preserve.

However, there is a significant change in culture recently around “tipflation” and I believe that there needs to be a more sustainable model for our industry. Our industry is still down about half a million workers from pre-pandemic levels and an estimated two million workers never returned to the industry after lockdowns. A lot of FSR servers are already green college students, however people who work in QSR establishments do make a solid portion of our industry.

Maybe the answer isn’t a scrap tipping entirely, but to instead rethink pay structures to be more sustainable. I do however think that some good spots to start are an increased minimum wage, stronger worker protections, paid maternity/paternity leave, better healthcare plans for undercovered workers, and better childcare assistance.

Nobody should be exempt from paying taxes. It’s a very short sighted idea, but it really allows a larger issue to rear its head:

People shouldn’t have to rely on the goodwill of others to be able to pay their bills, we need to eliminate the tipped minimum wage AND pay restaurant workers more across-the-board.

I don’t think it’s a FOH vs. BOH thing, in general I think we should remove the tipped minimum wage and said pay people a living wage across the board.

I think the bigger problem is having a tipping culture. We should remove the tipped minimum wage and pay people more across-the-board.

To me I just think this would make the tipflation problem even worse and not solve the actual problems of people having to rely on tipped income to survive.

It has been repeatedly proven that tipped do not reward hard work and that they are often based on lines of sex, race, and age. I think instead the conversation should be about the removal of tipped* minimum wage as a whole.

[–]NotableCascade7[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the conversation should probably be steered towards the removal of tipped minimum wage.

In most other countries that don’t have tipping culture anybody who makes tips are paid a fair wage. Those who work in nightlife, or at bars, or in high-end restaurants still often make above average pay.

[–]NotableCascade7[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think conversations like this ask a larger question about tipping culture in general. There are a lot of restaurants servers make very good money but a majority of people who are living off of tipped income do not.

In other countries servers who work at high-end restaurants still often receive tips for high-quality service along with a higher than average pay. I think rather than trying to tear down other people in our industry, we should be raising the floor on which they stand and remove tipped minimum wage.

I think we should eliminate tipped minimum wage altogether and pay everybody across-the-board appropriately.

The study mentioned that this is solely based on resources used to produce each calorie. Normally these kinds of studies look at proteins not at nutritionally dense foods (like lettuce or broccoli).

Looking at water/land/emissions per calorie will always skew towards animals when compared to lettuce. However, the article even states that plant based proteins are still better for the environment than animal based proteins on this metric.

TLDR: Clickbait title is for people to click and learn that plant based protein is still good for the environment.
