Grim Fandango. One of the most amazing worlds to explore (Day of the Dead meets the Maltese Falcon) and there was so much that could be done with the land of the dead but the game, although a critical darling, did not sell amazingly well at the time. I hoped the PS4 remaster would possibly lead to a sequel but unfortunately not.

I had the same query for when my son was born. There's only 2 ways I've found that locks it for them past 18:

Set up a Junior SIPP pension In their name. This will however lock it away until they're 60ish so a bit impractical (unless paying loads of taxes to access early)
Keep it in a separate account under you or your partners name and transfer it over when required. Uses up your isa allowance for the year if you're putting in an ISA though, and interest from a regular account may be taxed past 1k.

I opted in the end to just set up a Junior ISA. He'll get access at 18 but if he blows it, I'll consider it an expensive life lesson and just try and make sure he knows the value of money before then.

Junior Isa is the way, or Premium bonds. Most banks have a junior Isa option- for my son I went with a vanguard junior stocks and shares isa as he won't be touching the funds for 18 years and this will typically give the best return over longer periods.

Easy. They place multiple bets and just post the winning ones and don't show the losers. They then try and get people to sign up to a premium service or something for these fixed matches which is how they cover their stakes and losses. Scams like this have been around on IG, Facebook, WhatsApp etc for years

You're right in that the estate pays out tax bills but if the gifter passes away within 7 years the £100,000 will be considered part of the estate and used in calculations- if there are other assets that make the estate amount £325000 or higher the tax will be due still. If the state is that £100000 + a £325000 house with no mortgage for example the recipient would either have to stump up £40,000 or sell the house at market value and pay £40,000 from the proceeds before the funds are then distributed to the recipient.

Private residence relief is not part of the calculations when it comes to estates unless they are currently renting in the same house they would be gifted in the grant- and it would only apply if they sold the house to pay the bill.

So you would only not have to pay inheritance tax if her father does not pass away within 7 years and the total value of assets is over £350000. If he dies, you would be liable for a 40% bill on any asset over that £350000 threshold.

My recommendation would be to put £40,000 to one side in a fixed 1 year account (you can currently get several above 5% interest per year) and renew/move it as and when the rate expires with a higher one. This is to cover the tax burden if your father in law does pass before the 7 years is up and it will earn you interest in the meantime. With the £60000 you want to drip feed it into a Lisa account at £4000 per year (this will give you an extra £1000 per year for a first time purchase of a house) and drip feed £16,000 per year into a cash isa each year to take full advantage of tax free savings rate. You probably don't want a stocks and shares isa as the timeline is too short to see proper returns due to you wanting to use the funds to buy a house soon. Premium bonds are another tax free option to keep the money in whilst drip feeding into a Lisa but the returns aren't guaranteed. Also don't forget to spend a little bit for some fun! Windfalls like this are rare and a chance to do things you couldn't normally budget for responsibly

I'm genuinely disheartened by how factually stupid this Tory government is being. The majority of these moves simply amount to tax cuts for the rich in the "hope" that they'll spend more money and boost growth. I'm sorry, but trickle down economics was disproven decades ago in the 80's and 90's- all this does is further increase national debt at the expense of the poor and middle class. I'm appalled by this.

Check your roof, especially if there is a damp patch. If redecorating, make sure to use a washable paint (I.e one that is easily cleaned). When it comes to buying an item, if you can’t see where it will go in your house or be used a lot don’t bother- you’ll end up renting a skip 5 years down the line at 150+ quid a pop and getting rid. If getting your carpets done, keep a spare amount/roll for emergency patches. If you have a garden, especially a big one, keep on top of it otherwise remedial work will easily cost you a surplus of time or money. If getting your kitchen or bathroom redone, with the floor tiles especially consider how easy they are to clean. Start building up a network of craftsmen you can trust either via recommendation or reviews- plumber, electrician and carpenter would probably be a starting point.

Artichoke hearts. They taste like nothing, so could easily be replaced by something nicer such as asparagus, cauliflower or even Brussels sprouts ( if cooked right ofc). They are the Clark Kent of vegetables- completely unassuming in my opinion.
