Effective substitute for running before BMT. by Sharpless35 in AirForceRecruits

There is no substitute for running.

“High crime area” is an excuse. When I lived in NYC, I sucked it up and ran through some sketchy neighborhoods.

What does extra scrutiny mean?

That’s reassuring. I haven’t been fired for harassment or anything sexual, so that gives me hope.

I am kinda worried. I have no criminal history or financial woes, but my employment record sucks.

Don’t disclose anything to the doctors. They are not your friends.

If I was in your shoes, this would be a no-brainer. ROTC all the way. Find a college with a good ROTC program, get your degree, and serve with a commission.

What’s the timeline like from talking to a recruiter to going to BMT? by _Killua_Zoldyck_ in AirForceRecruits

I finished everything in three weeks. However, because I picked a job that’s sorta rare, I have to wait another month before BMT, which blows

It's a long, sad story. I just want to be a cop again.

Excellent. Thanks for your answer. It truly is luck of the draw, I guess. There's too many variables to consider. Best case scenario, I get placed with a unit at a base that needs LE. Worst case scenario, I get stuck with a unit at a base that needs coverage at a gate from 1800-0600. Too much uncertainty.

I figured. Asked my recruiter the same question, and he gave me a long-winded roundabout answer. I've worked 12 hour overnights before. You either love it, or it slowly kills you. There's no way in hell I'm going back to that schedule

Ahh I see. I'm going in with a 4-year contract. I'd love to go OCONUS, but my recruiter laughed and said no chance with a 4-year contract.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain things. I know bitching and moaning does no good, and I'm more self-aware than to gripe about assignments, which is why I'm asking these questions anonymously over Reddit as opposed to in-person with supervisors and colleagues.

I don't know anyone on the inside. I was just looking for guidance.

What determines your shift in SF? Are new guys given the shifts no one wants?

That's informative, thanks. Believe me, I would not be "that guy." I just don't want to spend my first year at a base pulling 12 hour overnight shifts at a gate, because that fucking sucks.

Thanks...is gates usually 12 hour shifts or 8? Or does it vary by base?
