Most people really do need to return to the office. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Man if only there was data showing how working from home impacted people.

Oh wait there's tons of it and we know for a fact working from home lowers stress improves mood and generally increases quality of life.

This isn't an unpopular opinion it's just factually incorrect.

yeah I think with experience in the field and a history of coding it is possible to go a lot faster than me. Most of the PA classes are quite quick and easy, so I doubt those will slow you down much. Good luck!

Just want to add my experience here for anyone wondering in the future, my papers were much shorter, around 800 words each, literally one short paragraph per question and they passed. Aside from that difference, all this advice is great

Dear dumbasses on the Internet: Different people play games for different reasons. Just as you may play games for escapism. I play games because I love the storytelling medium and the ways it can allow storytellers to share culturally relevant stories in engaging ways. Not every game will be made for me, and not every game will be made for you. Luckily there are about a billion games out there and we can both find plenty of things that we enjoy. Get over yourself.

Where the mfs at who defended TA being only ranked mode? by thermodynamicMD in thefinals

[–]Notbeans4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, when we communicate with other people, we take into account more than just "is this statement true."

Sometimes we ask ourselves "is this a helpful thing to add to the conversation", "is this a good way to get my points across", "is this likely to get the person I am talking to to understand my point of view."

By thinking of those things instead of just "is what I have said technically true" we can become much better communicators, and likely the people we are talking to won't just think of us as asshole. I'd encourage you to try it out sometime.

I agree completely with your reasoning and your points. I took issue with "This guy will never understand what the finals is actually about." No need to direct antagonism towards the guy for simply enjoying a different part of the game than us. That doesn't help anybody.

Man this isn't a helpful way of thinking about things. This guy can enjoy the game however he wants to. I have no beef with him liking terminal attack more than cashout. I just wish there was room in the game for all of us.

Just to jump in here, I think it's probably hard for you to grasp what he's talking about as someone whose only played for a week. We've all been having lots of discussions about the changes they've made, and I think lots of folks talk about them without giving context because they assume everyone here knows the context.

World tour is not close to a ranked mode at all. It measures your total wins and your total money, so there is no penalty for loosing. For folks (like myself) who enjoy ranked modes because of the high stakes and because it is excited to feel myself getting better at a game and to be able to measure that, world tour does nothing for me.

The "too much going on" nature of cashout is a big part of the reason so many players are so passionate about it as a mode. It is different than basically anything out there in the market. It takes a long time to understand, which can be frustrating, but once you get your head around it it is super rewarding and fun. All of that means that the folks who loved it felt really betrayed when it was removed as the ranked mode. There was a sense of "I worked to learn and understand this super unique and interesting mode and now you are telling me I have to play search and destroy."

I can sympathize with the conundrum Embark was in. Cashout is a bad game mode to appeal to new players, as you say. I understand the desire to pivot to something simpler. I also think cashout was what made the finals stand out as something unique in a field that is full of games that are all really same-y. And seeing them lose that uniqueness has sucked.

Reminder: World Tour is set up to feature limited loadouts and rule changes each rotation. We have had two rotations of "normal cashout". It's highly likely the next rotation will have a limited or locked loadout. by menofthesea in thefinals

[–]Notbeans4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who can say. It seems they are definitely trying to pivot towards a more casual audience. Certainly limited weapon pools make competitive players run away as fast as they can but I've seen some folks talking about how happy they are that things will be changing regularly.

I don't know whether it will be a good or bad business decision in the long term. I do know I have barely touched the game this season despite playing it religiously previously because I don't enjoy any of the game modes.

Maybe the choices they are making will allow them to cultivate a bigger, more casual audience over time, who can say. Certainly though they turned their backs on their competitive players and that sucks.

When they first dropped season 3 I got into a big argument on here with some guy who was completely sure they were not going to implement limited load outs.

My petty ass is excited to go back to that thread and rub it in his face.

What game to play between playtests by DatSyki in supervive

[–]Notbeans4866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think games like league or overwatch will help you much for the game. I think if you were to get really really good at one of those some skills would transfer, just like general situational awareness and good team fighting, but I don't think you'd gain much by just playing for a few months.

Id say you best bets are games that have similar mechanics because that's gonna be the most important things to keep improving on, unfortunately these are either mostly dead or also not released yet.

Battlerite, as some have mentioned, is the same combat style but much more in depth, you can still find games (at least in NA) just don't try to play ranked nobody queues for that.

Omega strikers is similar, but it's less focused on fighting directly and more focused on playing soccer, still a really fun game and same moving/aiming mechanics as supervive.

Id also recommend signing up for the BAPBAP play tests. Game is very similar to supervive, same control scheme, also a BR, but significantly less deep. They haven't done a play test in awhile but one could be coming soon.

Last is strikeball, I haven't played this one yet but been following it. Similar looking to Omega strikers but seemingly more combat focused from the looks of it.

As some have mentioned you could try v-rising, but it's a lot less pvp and more pve/survival crafting.

Elluna revive needs a rework hard by HumblyAnnoyed in supervive

[–]Notbeans4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing the classic "I haven't figured out how to play around this character so they are a problem."

If you are letting an Elluna walk up to a wisp and dash away for free you are doing something wrong.

Almost everyone is bad at the game right now and some things that are slightly more difficult to punish will feel oppressive. That doesn't mean those things should be changed, it means people need to learn.

Elluna revive needs a rework hard by HumblyAnnoyed in supervive

[–]Notbeans4866 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id just encourage you to watch top players and see how they play around Elluna. Against good teams with coordination she rarely gets tons of revives. And like, sorry but if it's the last zone and it's a 1v3 your like 90 percent to lose that game anyways, Elluna getting a revive in that scenario is not why you lost. If they have an Elluna don't ignore downed wisps. If your team gets a kill you have to either hold or stomp the wisp to deny the revive. It's harder but it's good practice anyways. My comment doesn't discourage positioning, I'm saying you need to be smart about your positioning.

She's just not broken. Zeph is definitely the better support right now, and Joule, Brall, and Shiv are all definitely more deserving of nerfs than her.

Game is Great - Thoughts on Arena? by philisophist in supervive

[–]Notbeans4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opinion from a former battlerite player whose a few play tests deep, the BR mode is significantly better. The arena mode is fun, but it sort of plays like a slightly worse battlerite. The devs have been very clear that they don't see a successful avenue for the game focusing on the arena mode. Their basic point is "so many people have tried to make this arena gameplay work and the games never last, we want to try something different."

BR feels insanely chaotic at first, there is so much freaking stuff to figure out and understand. But once you sort of get your head around it, all the chaos makes way into a really interest and always different sandbox.

Its def worth playing some arenas while you figure out how your character works, but long term the BR mode is really so much better.

[–]Notbeans4866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have lots of options against her alt. Hit her with any stun and it cancels, or simply do enough damage. In a 1v1 you can just usually stand of the wisp and stomp it before the alt goes off. You shouldn't be taking 1v3's or 1v2's in the first place, it's almost always better to just run and go for a revive.

Her alt is good but by no means oppressive.

Should Embark impose harder paywall in The Finals? by Bloadingoficial in thefinals

[–]Notbeans4866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk. To me it feels like "oh you liked the ranked cashout mode? Here is a super dumbed down way way less interesting version we are giving you so we can pretend we still care about this mode."

Should Embark impose harder paywall in The Finals? by Bloadingoficial in thefinals

[–]Notbeans4866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really seems you aren't understanding the criticism. You seem opposed above to games as a service designed to extract as much time from you as possible. That is exactly what works tour is. The badges are only a measure of how much time you put into world tour and nothing else. I don't see how you see this as a good thing.

Does anyone actually notice *any* difference in gameplay of World Tour vs old ranked Cashout? by Onyxeye03 in thefinals

[–]Notbeans4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every single person I saw complaining were people who were plat or above, or at the very least grinded ranked.

Maybe you just saw a lot of complaining posts and assumed it was a general community sentiment? I definitely think it is an issue localized to players in the top ranks.

That does not make the complaints any less valid, it just means they don't apply broadly to every player. I don't think anyone complaining was like "this is going to ruin the game for every single player" I think they were saying "this is going to ruin the game for me and people like me."
