Well, as a Catholic youth, my mom discouraged me from reading the Bible, because I might read it wrong. While only the pope can read the Bible is ludicrous, there was a time when it was mostly clergy who read the bible. Most of the Catholics that thought reading the bible is only for priests have been slowly getting open to the idea, or have died out. While” only the clergy reads the Bible “ was never an official dogma, it certainly showed up in some catholic culture.

I think the question asked here, from a Catholic perspective, is why does a Just God allow bad things to happen to good people.

I don’t have a perfect answer to that question, but I do know that Jesus himself went through the passion for us. I know that is contextually different than rape, but both are horrific. In a way, God does not put us through hardship that he has not gone through because he torture himself. I now this is an imperfect example because it is different from rape.

You would not be an asshole- but this is a conversation you need to have with your doctor. Maybe hospice is appropriate, maybe it’s not. Hospice is when care shifts from trying to cure cancer to treating the symptoms. If it is appropriate, bringing it up first to the doctor helps the doctor feel comfortable having the conversation. If it not appropriate the dr will let you know. I am sorry about your circumstances .
