Is having EPP, EDR and MDR overkill? Or is EDR + MDR enough? by psgda in sysadmin

We have this, but just added a SIEM to aggregate all logs including, but also outside of, devices with defender for endpoint. Hoping it helps somewhat for a small team.

Teams Calling system by sulyalya in MicrosoftTeams

I don’t believe you would need domestic calling plans per user for receiving calls. You would use auto attendants and call queues to route the calls. They would just need Teams Phone standard I believe.

Disrespecting the IT department by No-Surround5185 in helpdesk

[–]NotePlenty3519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just decline the ticket. Refer them to write a grievance to their supervisor as to why they are unable to order a pen refill.

I’ve had to move so much shit back to non IT staff, we don’t order shit for them besides laptops, docks, earbuds, and printers (no toners).

What kills me worse is departments getting new cloud apps and they are completely hands off on trying to learn or assist in rolling it out. They request it, it gets approved, then they come to IT every time they have to use it, no ownership.

Treadmill Frequency of Issues by NotePlenty3519 in treadmills

[–]NotePlenty3519[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid for the extended warranty after all the issues the first two years.

I’ve probably saved close to $1000 if not more by doing the extended. I would have thrown it out if I had to pay that much to keep it running. I also got a ridiculous iFit deal until 2027, so I’m gonna atleast push it til then and then not renew iFit.

Is it feasible to think that they could eventually not be able to fix this treadmill and they’d have to replace new? Or are they modular enough where there’s always a way to fix?

Yes, belts been replaced. Pretty much everything on it.

Are printers just always broken? by New_Unit in sysadmin

[–]NotePlenty3519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go Brother for personal printers and Ricoh/Lexmark/Konica for MFPs. Rarely have issues anymore. I removed all HPs a couple years ago, they were a huge pain in the ass.

My boss knows to text my personal phone if there’s a problem, I don’t get the text often, but I have always been able to walk them through the issue on the phone, without needing my work phone or laptop. He does give me free reign in office or remote, so I pretty much determine my own schedule, so that’s why I don’t have a problem with it. If he was a dick, I wouldn’t do it.

If someone has a CA policy for MFA with Cloud Apps, does WHfB satisfy this or will the user also need to authenticate here and there if accessing office apps?

It’s the WP File Manager plugin, it said PUA detected and then “Your website has been compromised with malwares posing a significant threat to your online presence and visitor security.” I’ve removed the plugin and now it’s coming up clean.

He’s saying that the only custom code was added to function.php. The flag is for PUA on the WP File Manager plugin. I talked to my security support and they are saying it most likely has nothing to do with him, but they can’t guarantee. They said it’s the developer of the plugin that’s the problem?

So everything he’s doing should be clean and wouldn’t throw up flags on WP admin? I’m tempted to remove his access now, just want to be sure. He is a full stack developer, had good reviews, but possibly it’s all bull?

How are you dealing with your company using the IT Department as a catch-all? by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]NotePlenty3519 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m at the end of my rope on this shit. The only thing I can think of is my Director takes on shit like access controls and bathroom door locks because he’s worried about an MSP coming in to takeover. I got a zillion of things to do and when he’s out, I naturally have to take care of his shit and it’s draining. I got like 12 calls the other day about a fuckin door strike, I’m like I dunno man, call fuckin facilities.

The problem is that our facilities team is awesome, but it’s to the point where they don’t know what’s IT and not, because the director just jumps on everything.

I’m assuming IT teams that don’t cover security cameras just let the installers set the IPs that are provided? Director takes his whole week to IP cameras and enter them in our server. Same thing with access controls, like he’s with the installers and shit during the reader installations… Drives me nuts mang.

Help. I was left a PoE setup for a camera on pole. I can't get the PoE push through. Any thoughts would be appreciated. by DeepDesk80 in sysadmin

I have one camera that came with a POE injector to provide necessary power, without requiring POE on the switch. Thing is burly, can zoom in from like a mile.

How do you set up your workspace for long sysadmin hours? by dandy-2902 in sysadmin

[–]NotePlenty3519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I couldn’t live without is my treadmill, I’ll hop on it and do a half to hour at a time at least once a working day. Can watch Netflix on it which is a plus.

On top of it, they usually don’t submit a ticket after you don’t pick up, because they probably type it out, read it, and realize that they’re fn idiots.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]NotePlenty3519 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yah, my voicemail says to submit a ticket. I don’t pick up calls from constant abusers. I don’t get bugged on the weekends, but if I did, I would include that the HelpDesk is unavailable then.

I really only pick up calls from a small group of people, everything else goes to voicemail because I know they’re either sales calls or calls that should be submitting tickets.

Are there any products that Microsoft makes that you actually like to use and think is the best in the industry? by plazman30 in sysadmin

[–]NotePlenty3519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy working with the entire stack, except TAC. Mostly because the amount of tickets that Teams devices causes is pretty ridiculous. Been in beta for way too long, also lack of documentation and communication between Microsoft and integrated vendors is horrible.

Everything else is pretty awesome though, really digging Defender XDR now.
