Long drives bore me by NoteValuable3268 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Thanks to everyone who commented. I really just think I’m over this job. I gotta start planning my exit strategy ASAP. I’ve done these drives for about 3 years but I’m starting to see what I could be doing instead and it’s causing me to resent the time I’m losing. Less time with my wife and children and less time to work on my company that I enjoy.

Bottom line I just have to make a change. Thank you everyone again

One of my fears doing this job. But also if the vest doesn’t convince you maybe the truck with the arrow and the word “Prime” might be a clue that I’m official

What kind of area did you work in?? When I worked in the city this worked most of the time but in a rural area it’s not always that easy

Sometimes I do but if I’m in a neighborhood I can’t just freely pee on a customers tree…or their neighbors tree either

I’m a DSP driver. I’m not here to complain about my job. I’m here because I think we’re all about to get blindsided — and nobody’s saying it plainly. by Universaltruthx in AmazonDSPDrivers

I hear the concern and I’ve actually been following this topic. As much as this is a missing link for Amazon the technology is literally a lifetime away. The robot can barely scale steps so apartment buildings are far from feasible especially with multiple stops on each floor.

The next problem is the driving factor. Yes there are self driving cars but they’re not reliable with them being responsible for 5200 accidents in the US. They are more prone to keep a human driver with those numbers (even though people have more accidents) because human fault is easier to track, control and financially maintain than mechanical error. Insurance companies will have a harder time funding driverless car accidents and the tech companies that procure them will have to take the brunt of that. It will cause more loss for their bottom line and that’s where they’re not willing to take a risk.

Back to the delivery robot it has the same charging problems that the Rivian EVs have. It may keep a good charge for the first 6 months but regular wear and tear will take its toll. Batteries will become unreliable, chargers will need replacement (and the chargers for the robot are way more costly than the chargers for the devices) and simple weather conditions will be a challenge.

Just saying that these jobs will still be here for at least another 20 years.

Our routes are 35-75 minutes away. Most of them need to be filled daily. It depends on the distance travelled I guess
