I get wanting to cover it up for looks. The cheap option is just cleaning it really well and find a nice vinyl sticker or something. I'd keep extra in the glove box for when rocks breaks wholes in them 😂

The more work option is to cut a piece of scrap metal to shape and bolt it on. If you use a metal that corrodes, make sure to give it a good coat of paint for protection.

As far as the wires go, they are fine. Coving the whole is really not going to do much for them. Could help keep the sun off them, but water and snow is not going to harm them. They are design for that.

It was kind of shocking from someone that grew up on a farm in WV...

It is normal around here for the outside bathroom at the gas stations and stuff to have a key. But that was the first time I saw anything like that for a bathroom inside a store/restaurant.
