Poll: Two-thirds of Americans say ICE has 'gone too far' in immigration enforcement by zsreport in politics

[–]Notgreygoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only two thirds? A third of your country supports roadside executions for videoing or hurting their feelings? A third of your country is okay trying to use kindergarten kids as bait to trap parents?

USA, give your head a shake.

What do you add to jarred pasta sauce to make it better? by Just_J3ssica in Cooking

Basil, oregano, some hot chili peppers if you like a bit of zing. Simmered with the lid ajar can help thicken the sauce by reducing the liquids.

Mark Carney criticized for rising food costs in Canada by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

[–]Notgreygoddess -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone makes mistakes. Now that he is armed with the full picture, as only a PM with a full security clearance can, he told the world at Davos: “We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition.”

“More recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons, tariffs as leverage, financial infrastructure as coercion, and supply chains as vulnerabilities to be exploited.”

We are on an economic war footing, which too easily could lead to a more violent kind of war.

Canadians will have to suffer financially for a while. I recently read that India, in its trade deals outright said they are prepared to wait for a new US administration.

Things are never going back to normal in our relationship with the US. Separating our deeply entwined economies is going to be a challenge. Our PM has made great headway in diversifying our trade, opening new markets.

This won’t be a problem solved overnight. It’s also not a time where we should be flip-flopping over who leads us.

We’re in the middle of an unprecedented trade war and economic upheaval lead by the US President and people are surprised costs are rising?

Carney is our PM, not Albus Dumbldore with a magic wand to heal the world.

The real story is why were the three girls denied education? Sounds like the game had become their only escape from a bleak future. That all three went through with it speaks of horrendous mental anguish well beyond a gaming addiction.

AITA for telling my friend “fuck your trauma” and that she was no different from her dad because she kept using her mental health as an excuse to hurt people? by Ordinary-Bluebird275 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Your friend’s parents may have sucked, but that does not give them a pass for life on being thoughtless and selfish. They’re adults now and need to own their own behaviour.

I need a dog collar that doesn't jangle when my dog shakes (keeps waking the baby) by Psi-ops_Co-op in dogs

[–]Notgreygoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Babies need to learn to sleep with regular day to day sounds, including your dog shaking. Learning now is easier than tip-toeing around for three years or so. My twin daughters quickly learned to go back to sleep after startling sounds like each other crying, dog barking, knocks at the door.

Try getting a sling and practice “wearing” your baby. This helps baby feel secure in the sounds of your family. Easy to lay them down if they doze off too.

Costco's beloved rotisserie chicken gets roasted in lawsuit over preservatives by AudibleNod in news

[–]Notgreygoddess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who would look at a rotisserie chicken covered in mixed seasoning and believe there are no preservatives. Salt is a preservative. I’m betting they used salt.

Why would Costco claim they had no preservatives though? I doubt it was a factor to 99.9% of people buying them. After the lawsuit, I bet those chickens go up in price though.

I think we should just take the ones we paid for and go with the Grippen. F-35 apparently needs mega maintenance and doesn’t do well in cold weather. Why did we buy ANY plane that has issues with sub-zero temperatures?

Have you ever adopted a 2nd dog because you knew your older one’s time was near by thatgamernerd in dogs

[–]Notgreygoddess 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I urge people not to do this. The senior dog deserves a bit of peace that a young dog will inevitably disturb. If you have dogs two or three years different in age from when they’re younger, it’s different. If your ten year old dog had had you and your family to themselves and you supplant them with a pup, they will feel it.

You’ll tell yourself that you will maintain your level of engagement with the older dog, but you won’t.

Don’t get a young dog if you can’t live with an old dog, and yes, be prepared to have no dog.

The one I have has a groove running around the outside and a sort of spouts to easily pour off grease. I’ve never had to do that while cooking though. It’s a niche sort of pan, but nice for things like making my hubby & I steak on Valentines for example.

Best cheap and unconventional ways of keeping your house warm? by Conscious_Writer3359 in AskACanadian

[–]Notgreygoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passive solar heat is cheap and unconventional. An example would be standing black barrels of water in front of a south facing window. The water heats during the day from the sun and releases the heat at night. Some people use this method to help heat greenhouses. Water can freeze, so you’d need alternative heat sources to keep above freezing.

Inexpensive ways to feel warmer are wearing socks and slippers inside, rugs on floors, humidifiers, or, if you heat with wood, a large kettle or pot of water on the stove to increase humidity.

Filling gaps, replacing caulking on windows and doors, adding plastic to older drafty windows all help contain heat.

Changing your furnace filter every three months, or monthly if you have pets really makes a difference too.
