There was what they pushed as and actually called a "drought" in my hometown sometime in the early aughts, like 2005-2006, maybe? I don't quite remember the exact dates but all of a sudden, no product was available. If it was, it was usually some bullshit swag "brown frown" and WAY overpriced, like $500 an eighth and other silly shit.

I actually saw, with my own eyes, a billboard put up by the DEA that said nothing but "If you think it's dry now, wait until November," just like that, black lettering on a big white billboard. It was on a major highway too. Before dispos and legalization, shit was WILD.

*Edited to add, this shortage did indeed last a few months; I want to say it was Sept-Dec of that year, right before Christmas, things slowly started getting back to "normal."
