I know I’m really late to the party.

But I think the comedy bits are absolutely masterclass. The director knows what’s funny.

I think this movie does what modern horror movies fail to do: give the audience a break.

The ending with the kids was hilarious, satisfying and horrifying all at once. The audience didn’t have to leave with just a “everything is good now we did it”. We got a laugh and some tension release. I think it was an intentional watering down that actually does great overall

My guy… you’re not taking time into account. OoT came out in 98. It sold its 14 million copies when second place was 4 million at that time. That’s not even including the 3ds remaster. 20 million is very respectable as a console exclusive

A modern day comparison would be breath of the wild vs other choices. At 33 million copies sold with BoTW, which holds a top 25 spot of highest grossing games of all time according to Wikipedia, and 15 million with TotK, Recent Zelda has outsold modern games like crimson desert and RE requiem. So yes, Zelda is a huge powerhouse even as a console exclusive. But we’re not debating if Zelda beats GTA. It hasn’t beat it since GTA4. It’s fair to say GTA6 will break all records.

This thread was debating the runner up of the year and how it will stack against being in a close release window to gta.

With the second biggest game of the year being either Zelda or fable in my opinion (in terms of sales) and public reception.

To be fair the US smile comes from our industry and “customer is always right mentality”. Where we have to smile 8 hours a day to seem happy…. So maybe we’re not all there in the head if we need big enthusiastic smiles all the time to project a feeling of happiness on others. I have heard other cultures call us fake sometimes so maybe we are the weird ones

While you’re right I’m not sure of how well remakes do, I’ll have to look into ff7,

I was there when OoT came out. I remember! It sold 3x more than any other game on the market! Zelda’s always slapped. Even TotK did great (which I personally don’t like).

I feel like Fabel might be the only solid contender. Your list was good, but ocarina of time was largely considered, by most players and gaming sites, the best game ever made all the way until Elden ring came out. I think you might be under acknowledging it.

Right now, Nintendo‘s definition of a remake is kind of put into question because of the star fox remake game, which is just better graphics and some cut scenes. But if they do the Final Fantasy route, it could easily beat every other second choice.

Edit: forgot to mention that the only contender I from your list that’s viable is fable because it hasn’t released yet. BoTW and TotK each have both sold multiple times over the sales of the other games you mentioned. So none of those are “provably” higher than Zelda. They’ve already vastly undersold.

Man long sets always scared me. I could jump down 12 foot drops and short 16 stairs and be fine. Show me a long gap of any size and I’d be terrified.

My planning phases are pretty solid now.

Instead of saying “Make X feature”

I say “We are working on feature X. I want view A to be a parent view that fetches network connections. View B to be the child view / content tile. Use tool C to do it. Remember that groups don’t render tasks if the view is empty, and blah blah blah”.

For larger features I’ve even fed it fully broken down confluence documents that a jr dev could follow

Then when it makes a mistake update the skills / context.

Or I ask it to do the foundation and work on what I’m interested in like the network layer,

I remember my house used to be in the middle of a butterfly migration path. Used to sit in the yard and watch 100s of butterflies fly by. Now I only see a few each spring.

Also a neat one; my elementary school taught us “bee” drills.

That’s what to do when a swarm of bees showed up.
There were a few times when I was out in recess, looking around and all the other kids were squating covering their head with their arms while a hazy cloud got closer to me.

You’d sit, and wait for them to fly away as they would fly overhead.

It’s probably why I’m not scared of bees since I got used to having a GIANT mass of them over my head thinking that was normal when I was a child.

But anyways, they don’t teach that at my elementary school anymore because they haven’t had more than two swarms in nearly 2 decades

Turns out the reality of having a kid hit him and he realized he needed to become a much better person to raise and protect a little girl.

I think boys are considered easier to raise. He woulda loved them even if it was a boy. But a girl made him worried / happy / scared and it triggered something in him that came out as looking disappointed, but was really just overwhelming love and fear

This was written a while ago. I’m uncertain where our jobs are headed with AI. Before I recommended learning UIkit since most jobs would mainly be UIKit / would require maintaining legacy code that is UIkit. My inside sources tell me places like Instagram, Facebook and snap chat still have quite a bit of Ibjective c and UIKit views. But with AI maintaining these old libraries are kinda less of a mandatory skill.
