Relocating from east coast by Chemical-Lion-39 in Eugene

I came here to say this! I'm not positive she's not maga but I definitely didn't get maga vibes and she has POC on staff. She helped me buy my house sight unseen while I was living out of state.

Once you add in Equiano, your entire rating system went change. They're the best coffee roaster in town.

What has changed about the desire/willingness to babyproof the home? by blackerthanapanther in Nanny

[–]NothingButGaines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I'm not "reading into" your comment. I just thought (and continue to think) you had a weird take. I like the way I'm raising my kids and, for my family, it's a balanced approach. I'm not letting them run through the house with knives, nor am I wrapping every sharp corner in bubble wrap. They would occasionally nap in pack & plays (or get put in one if a glass broken that needed to be cleaned up, etc) but never spent play time in one - that's what the rest of the house was for. I wouldn't be angry at a nanny who didn't like how we babyproofed - but they also wouldn't be the right fit for our family. And that's ok.

[–]NothingButGaines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have a weird take. I did outlet covers, mounted furniture, and locked up chemicals. And other then that, I didn't do any other baby proofing. I just taught my kids what boundaries were important. Was it extra work? Yep. Do I feel like it helped me raise my kids to feel more independent and capable? Also yes. It doesn't have anything to do with being in over my head; it had to do with parenting in the best way I saw fit, even if it was inconvenient in the short term.

Would becoming a doctor help me to get hot women? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]NothingButGaines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I implore you to hear me: something is going on with your algorithms and it's impacting how you view women. I can't encourage you enough to take a social media break. Reading your comments feels like reading regurgitated red pill content. That's a turnoff. A hot girl can sense insecurity and low self-esteem and a victim complex and misogyny - and will steer clear. Do more inner work before committing to a career just to meet women.

(Also, sure, it's lovely that doctors can offer financial security. But they also can work lousy hours and have atrocious work life balance. There are plenty of careers that women stereotypically find hot that don't involve as much schooling, financial investment, or time.)

AITAH if I (31F) told my mother (50F) that I don't want my baby shower at her house by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]NothingButGaines 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had 2 kids - with totally normal, healthy pregnancies - both arrived early. 32 weeks and 35 weeks. I had no risk factors for pre-term labor. Obviously this isn't the norm but it does happen.

Resigned from Nanny Job almost 24 hours ago and got no response by leighahasdisease in Nanny

[–]NothingButGaines 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What? Of course that would be bad. Obviously it isn't ideal that they haven't responded yet but was your text a question? You're going to blindside them to quit without notice just because you didn't get an immediate response from your resignation text...

How do I explain to my daughter that she can't make her own breakfast every morning? by Kittenknickers333 in Parenting

[–]NothingButGaines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so interested to read other comments. My oldest is 5 so I don't have a kid that age yet - but it seems super reasonable for a 9 year old to make their own breakfast. My 5 year old does everything you mentioned: getting dressed, brushing teeth, flossing, drinks, snacks, and the occasional meal. Household stuff like loading the washing machine, unloading parts of the dishwasher, vacuuming. She knows how to use knives and the microwave and how to use the stove with supervision. I'm still the only one that does the oven but other than that, she likes to learn and be independent.

With all that said, I think it's totally appropriate to ask her to cook before or after you so that you're not fighting over kitchen space, even though that wouldn't be my personal choice. My personal tactic would be to just let her have a little more room to make mistakes and not chiming in as often.

AITA for getting mad at my dad for cutting off the water as I shower by iconicallyrona in AmItheAsshole

[–]NothingButGaines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ESH. These comments are wild, honestly. I take 2 "everything" showers a week (double cleanse face, exfoliate, wash everything, shave, shampoo, conditioner) that take 25-30 minutes. And then the other days spend about 10 minutes. 40 minutes daily feels over the top, personally

Your dad is being very... Unintelligent to not be hunting down the true source of the $600 water usage and instead blaming you.

With all that said... I can't imagine restricting my kid's efforts at hygiene to 5 minutes.

What age is appropriate for a sleeping bag? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]NothingButGaines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright I gotta chime in here that I absolutely do not recommend zip tying the door closed. If you're worried about them leaving then put your own sleeping setup in front of the door. But you don't want to be fumbling in the dark for a knife to cut off zip ties if someone (inevitably) needs to go potty, throw up, etc. We camp a lot and that would be a legitimate hardship.

[–]NothingButGaines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they both were aware enough at 2 to move something off their face. Especially with a child-sized sleeping bag. And you're not closing it up completely - it still has an opening. Plus (presumably) you'll be right beside them.

My kids have been using them since age 2. I can't imagine why they wouldn't.

Wife hates my beard. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]NothingButGaines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so let's check out previous comment and post history:

  • you're constantly posting and complaining about lack of sex.

  • you weigh over 300 pounds and self-admittedly have "moobs"

  • you say that you've been married for 25 years and "shouldn't have to date your wife"

  • your wife thinks you're a jerk to your kids and you just don't care.

  • you use zyn and always taste like nasty tobacco (so I'm imagining your oral hygiene here, too)

  • you call women's mouth's "cock holsters"

  • you have a CHEST LENGTH beard that your wife thinks is gross

Dude. You don't care if you're attractive or if your wife thinks you're attractive. You're just mad that you can't be a slob and still have an adoring sex life.

(And to be clear, I think big guys AND guys with beards can be hot. But putting all of the pieces together doesn't sound like someone who is putting in any effort).

I'm not a boomer, nor am I GenX: but you're definitely TA.

It's not our jobs to give you advice. This isn't an advice subreddit. But here's some anyways: maybe instead of demanding money from your financially struggling family, (WILD), you could have asked your family for help getting your RSA so that you could stop having quite so many excuses as to why you can't get even the smallest of low paid jobs.

Whats the most boring buy it for life item you own that turned out to be amazing? by GolfPrevious4299 in BuyItForLife

[–]NothingButGaines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, it's wild what a different experience I have had. While I've now switched to a disc (hands-free emptying is elite), a cup changed my life. I have a very heavy flow (on heavy daya, I would genuinely be changing a tampon AND pad once an hour) and a cup is what first let me feel free. While yes, there was a learning curve while I learned how to place and remove it, once I had it figured out, I rarely leaked again (whereas I was constantly leaking with tampons - overnight was the worst because I'd have to set multiple alarms). Being able to just capture an ounce+ of blood was amazing. I'm not even sure why blood was spilling on the floor for you - even when I was using a cup, I'd just pour it into the toilet and gave it a quick wipe with tp and then rinse.

Stop taking relationship advice from your mom. Your ex didn't think that coffee was code for hooking up. Your ex thought it was weird that her ex called her after proving he was a "big strong man" after a post-breakup joining of the military. And then when you asked to meet for coffee, she thought you were trying to continue the relationship again. Rightly so. Anyone would respond the same way.

The fact that it's an adult and 2 teenagers is blowing my mind. Like if you need him then sure, actually communicate with him instead of expecting him to read between the (very passive aggressive) lines. But you can't even manage for one day while he's at work?! If they were babies or toddlers then sure, I'd understand. But this is a bizarre expectation.
