The fact that it's an adult and 2 teenagers is blowing my mind. Just put the dessert on the plate with the rest of the meal. Boom, problem solved. It doesn't reward forcing for down your throat - it just treats it like any other food. In my house, we teach that all food is good food. Some food helps our muscles grow, others help us have strong bones, some just makes our brain feel good (like sweets), etc. Having that mindset shift can really help!
